DAYS 1-5 (JULY 26-30)
High pressure remains in control enough to give us another rain-free and pleasantly low humidity day to finish off the weekend. However, with the high center to our north, a light east to northeasterly flow will persist, and this is carrying just enough maritime moisture in for a deck of broken stratus clouds over Cape Cod. This will limit the sun at times there for at least a portion of the day, and combined with the onshore flow, this area will be your coolest section of the WHW region today. We’ll also see a few high clouds across the western sky on the edge of a weakening disturbance to our west. But overall, a very nice Sunday is today’s weather theme! Moving into the coming week, the guidance has struggled depicting the evolution of the pattern, but I’m starting to see enough consistency for a somewhat clearer picture, and this does lead to an adjustment to my outlook as well, with a more consolidated but still rather drawn out period of unsettled weather upcoming. Before that, we squeak in one more fair weather day Monday, however an increase in high clouds will be noted ahead of a warm front extending from low pressure moving into the Great Lakes. The difference in expectation is now explained: Previously, my favored solution was for unsettled weather focused on Tuesday and again Thursday from two separate systems with a short break between. The trend has been for a slower arrival of the first one and an overall combination of the two disturbed weather areas into more of a single, but drawn-out evolution that centers around initial low pressure in the Great Lakes during Tuesday, then redeveloping over the Mid Atlantic and wheeling its way to a position just south of New England on Wednesday, then lifting through the region while weakening on Thursday. This would result in a 3-day unsettled weather stretch, the wettest on Wednesday when we also have a moderate onshore flow, with the other two days featuring a more showery set-up, including the chance of thunderstorms. There is still quite a bit of refining to do on the details with that system, which will be done over the next few updates of this blog. I also add new thoughts in the comments after each day’s post, so feel free to check those if you don’t typically do so. And since I mentioned it, if you have never commented on the blog before and would like to, all you have to do is choose a name to go by and enter an email address (nobody sees the email, on your username). Your first comment goes into moderation for me to approve. So long as you continue to use the same username and email you can continue to comment. WordPress will send one with any differences in username and/or email back to moderation, as it’s quite picky about that, so if you do change it, be patient as sometimes it takes a while for me to get to the moderation folder during my busy days. 🙂 Now, onto the rest of the forecast…

Thanks TK !
Cool overnight.
Wordle: 3
Wow!! Awesome.
I got it in 4.
Thanks and very nice 4 !
Thanks. Jusr felt good to get it in a reasonable number of guesses. I’LL accept 4 or less, but bitter disappointment in 5,6 or fail.
Terrific 3 and 4. I don’t think I’ve seen a word with this many choices
Nice job! I had three at first guess and it still took me 5…. Too many options
Good morning and thank you TK
Around 70 here up from 58
My sensorc is still in a reflection period.
Ocean: 64
Wordle: 4. Very common word, but my guesses were not it till 4th guess. I guessed some less common words until it became obvious wordle wanted the very common word.
Sorry, one guess was uncommon, then a common one and another common word to get it
SPOILER ALERT
My wordle today

Thanks, TK!
52 here earlier this morning!
Kind of late Septemberish!
Another beautiful day. Currently 69/52 after an overnight low of 50.
I’m joining Tom with a 3 for Wordle.
Excellent! Good work.
So far, I am the ONLY caboose resident. It was so crowded yesterday, wordle won’t allow any more in today.
Wow. Another great Wordle.
88° 79° dewpoint in my favorite place Sarasota other than Warwick Rhode Island. Heat index 103° already. Had to go back to the car nasty little storm nearby. Looking like we won’t have dewpoints anywhere near like the folks down here experience every summer. Looking like below or average temps through August.
Any thoughts on the rest of the summer through September?
Have a great day everyone.
Thanks Tk . I guess my son should enjoy HB while he can the next two days as not looking good after that .
I think Wednesday is the only “washout” potential at this point.
I’m thinking this is the week that the weekly fireworks show will be utilizing the Friday “rain date”.
Friday they leave it’s goes Friday – Friday for the cottage . He’s doing a concert back home on Tuesday night & wondering if he should even go back
I’d go back. Any time there is good time, IMO.
And if they are Friday to Friday the basically win.
Only one of those days is a complete loss in terms of wet weather.
All the others are either perfect or have rain-free hours. 🙂
Thanks TK! Quite a breezy day here along the coast – I was never fond of these Nova Scotia high pressure areas in the summer because they generally provide a robust northeast seabreeze – great for sleeping weather but not necessarily beach weather. We have family coming in from Midwest and they will be delighted with temps 25 degrees cooler than what they are having out there!
Want a decent suspenseful drama to watch, check out
The Amateur on Amazon Prime. It stars rami malek who put in an outstanding performance.

Thank you, TK. 71/56
Huge smile. We hit 47 for a low. I had a feeling we’d see a 4
Thank you TK!
Wordle: Well done to all with those low numbers. Clinging onto the caboose for dear life. Too many choices with what my first guesses yielded.
Ditto.
So it is that a 4,5 or 6? 🙂
I have you covered JP Dave
I had four possibles that would work for my fifth guess. Fortunately, I chose the right one
Wordle 5
Strange how Wordle works. You got it!
Sure is strange. I feel lucky getting this one.
Thanks TK
September in July
73/51 here at 1:39 PM. Ahhhhhh
I love it!!! I
I’d take this every day of Summer!!!!
Thanks, TK.
A taste of September this weekend.
I took a walk with my son (he’s gradually doing better, thank goodness) around the beautiful Arboretum. He said, “Dad, it feels a little like early fall.”
As we walked from his place to the Arboretum we cross the Arborway, where there’s an analog clock on what appears to be a tall wooden structure. I told my son that I recalled being in the backseat of my mother’s station wagon in 1971 as we headed from Brookline to the Franklin Park Zoo and seeing that clock. I may be misremembering. But I don’t think I am. I’ve noticed that as I age, I get both nostalgic AND very sharp in some of my childhood memories. It’s almost as if I was in a time warp. Briefly, it was 1971, I was 7, and my Mom was in her 40s.
Human memory is fascinating. Some memories are of course better than others. This was one of the good ones.
Nice….
You were right down the street. 🙂
Wonderful news that your son is improving. What a perfect day for a walk.
I’m glad your son is doing better !!!
The temperature is still going down here. We’re down to 72.7 with dew point of 47. In July!!! Amazing!!! Not saying it never happens, but it does not happen often in July.
Interesting…It’s 82 in Montreal!!!
Pretty stiff wind coming in from the ocean.
Here, NOT Montreal!!!!
Montreal is warmer because they’re on the other side of high pressure that delivers warmer air.
We have the marine flow here.
Makes perfect sense. 🙂
Of course I know that. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Just pointing out the influence of that 64 Degree ocean out there. I Never expected it to be this cool at my location. Logan, yes, but here no. Yet it is. I was out and that East wind is very prominent for sure. One can feel the coolness of the breeze and the heat of the sun at the same time.
Going into this summer I was pretty sure “sustained heat” was not going to be in our pattern.
It hasn’t been. We’ve had some hot stretches no doubt, but the summer as a whole – not going to turn out to go down into the “hot summer” category when it’s over.
And we know that Boston has several 90 degree days on the stat sheet that were in fact NOT 90. But I am afraid nothing will be done about it. If there is one thing I loathe, it’s incorrect statistics that sway the record. I may dislike that more than you hate east winds in April. 😉
I totally and completely agree with you. I am a stickler for that. I insist on accurate numbers!!!
🙂 🙂
Have you reached out to anyone
Absolutely phenomenal day reminds me of mid August.
Joshua, are you referring to the clock at Forest Hills Station? If so, that was not there in 1971. It was erected once the old “Elevated” Orange Line was torn down in the 1980s.
That clock keeps good time when I’ve passed by that area, even when the clocks change with Standard and DST. I wonder if it’s automatic or manual?
Sunrise now around 5:30 am. Still not particularly noticeable when I awake from my alarm in the morning. 🙂
Climbed Mount Major yesterday. Got a decent view Lake “Winnie.”

What a stretch of weather!
❤️
Awesome !
So the Red Sox are 7-2 since the All Star break, yet I’ve seen people already say that they’re starting to slide again. Huh?
Completely invalid statement.
After winning 2 out of 3 from Toronto, they have won 6 series in a row.
Yeah, I have no clue what some people are watching. It’s mind-boggling.
This team is playing SOLID baseball.
Being a weather enthusiast it’s truly amazing at Siesta Key this afternoon what a 81°dewpoint truly felt like. I was under the umbrella with a 50 sunblock applied. I drank almost 2 liters of water. If one doesn’t hydrate folks can get into some real difficulty. I’m blessed with good health at 70 years old.
Back up to RI Wednesday for the rain.
Ah yes you reminded me.
Beware of social media that’s going to talk about unprecedented dew points in the Midwest. They do this every year because they think people are either ignorant or forgetful.
Dew points in the upper 70s to lower 80s in that part of the country are not unusual at all, they are nothing new, and they are not unprecedented. But they’ve been used as tools for making people think something is happening that never has.
Incorrect: As an agricultural meteorologist, and a pretty darn good one at that with many years of experience, “corn sweat” is nothing new, nothing unusual, and certainly nothing unprecedented.
So now that you’re educated on the subject, you can ignore the bullcrap. 🙂
The newer cluster of fires in Oregon were started by lightning. There was a cluster of thunderstorms with prolific lightning and limited rain. That’s the recipe for natural fires, and it happened in a dry area. It’ll take a while for these to be contained.
FYI: Fire season is nothing new. It happens annually. Some years are worse than others. Worse years (and quiet years) tend to cluster. This also goes hand in hand with my specialty in agricultural weather.

Kept parts of Montana and North Dakota in the 80s today and I think they had 90-100F potential.
We remember a few weeks ago the smoke over us deducting 6-10F off the expected temps.
You just reminded me of another thing. There are a lot of people posting in comments on social media posts that the smoke it trapping heat and making it hotter than it would be otherwise.
This is INCORRECT. Smoke has the opposite effect. It reflects incoming solar radiation and the result is COOLING. Not heating.
Anywhere I see this, I correct it. I am not in favor of misinformation.
I could be way off, but why do I get the feeling the eastern third of New England may not get as much rain Wednesday as some of the rain totals shown on weather casts this evening?
Maybe maxes more out in eastern ny state and western New England and then the upper feature sinks underneath and around us in a way that doesn’t let eastern areas sit under a rain band for very long ???!
Still a little soon to know how the heaviest band(s) will set-up. There’s definitely the potential for a fairly widespread 2+ inch rain event.
61 now. We were 61 at 9 o’clock last night and made it into the 40s. I’d love a repeat but even the 50s is fine with me for sleeping.
New post…
