Warmer Tuesday, Cooler Midweek

10:35PM

A cold front approaches Tuesday, which will be a mild to warm day (cooler South Coast due to wind off water). Rain showers will arrive from the west in the evening, making for a fairly wet night.

Front pushes offshore early Wednesday, which may begin with some showers, as low pressure forms on the front and intensifies while moving away. The balance of the day ends up windy and cooler with breaking clouds. Can’t rule out an additional shower due to some instability.

Thursday will be the brightest day of the week as high pressure moves in from the west, but low pressure to the east will still be close enough to cause a gusty breeze between itself and the approaching high pressure area. It will remain cool.

Late week will see the approach, passage, and departure of a low pressure area, the timing of which remains uncertain. For now, will go for an increase in clouds Friday, wet weather at night, lingering showers into Saturday, then variably cloudy conditions with some lingering threat of showers later Saturday and Sunday. There is conflicting information on whether or not it clears out by next Monday. Will split the difference for now.

Forecast for southeastern New England…

OVERNIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Highs in the 50s South Coast, 60s to around 70 elsewhere. Wind SW to S 10-20 MPH.

TUESDAYΒ  NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers likely. Lows around 50. Wind S 10-20 MPH shifting to NW.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy and windy. Chance of showers early. Low 49. High 59.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny and breezy. Low 38. High 58.

FRIDAY: Increasing clouds. Showers at night. Low 44. High 62.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Low 44. High 60.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated showers. Low 46. High 59.

MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 45. High 56.

  1. My computer must have gotten a virus yesterday. When I restarted it last night it says “operating system not found”. OS, is that what happened to you a few months back?

    1. North,

It was similar. Mine would not boot at all. It would get to a point and stop
with some crazy error message. I ended up having to get another computer, that’s how bad it was.

      Best of luck.

Do you have a boot disk? A repair disk or CD?

  2. Thanks TK. How scattered are Saturdays showers? My youngest is having her sons first birthday party here mid Day. I know she was hoping for outside

      1. You bet OS. I’ll say we have been incredibly lucky this month. There have been four days I have not sat on the deck. This morning we are out in tees and shorts again. Great April in my books.

    1. It’s New England, you can never plan stuff outside, I agree with os , did u hear how so many marathon runners were talking about how hard is was to train and were very inconvenienced by this years winter weather, many of them said this past winter did not help out any of the runners for training, a lot of these runners prefer outside running , they were severely inconvenienced, I give them all the credit for being inconvenienced and staying with it through there training, many end up dropping out bc many people don’t like training in the freezing cold, I heard it many times in nice ways yesterday.

      1. In all honesty. No matter the time of year in the majority of areas, you cannot count on outside events so always need a plan B. As far as runners, I know a lot of runners and they are used to training cold and warm. I know my son prefers cold to heat but runs in both. Not sure what the majority feel so was interested in your comment Charlie.

        1. With the snow we had on the ground through the majority of the winter and it being many times to cold, (below 20), I would think the majority prefer 55-60 degrees.

      2. Well if they want to run badly enough then they will just have to learn to deal with the climate of the region, won’t they…

It’s natural. It’s only “inconvenient” because some choose to call it so. The weather is doing what is supposed to do. We can learn to deal. Completely disagree that we can never plan outside events.

        1. I find it completely insane that anyone would say they were “inconvenienced” by the weather when it comes to training. Sure their training may have been affected by the weather but as TK said, it is doing what it is supposed to do.

          1. When we play golf in Europe, we are inconvenienced because the course isn’t as groomed as we feel it should be. I totally agree with you and TK. A true athlete deals with all and performs in all and in most cases rises to the challenges. And I’d say the vast majority who ran yesterday were the epitome of the true athlete.

        2. Tk wrote: Completely disagree that we can never plan outside events.

          For April?

          For July, sure, but April?

I guess I live on a different plant than you. πŸ˜†

        3. We can always plan outdoor events…any time of year….but it seems to me that we can’t count on them being outdoors BUT if they are not I don’t think that should define whether or weather they are a success

  3. Nice day today, temp says 64 degrees, the nat bugs r out in full force, hoping everyone enjoys the nice day πŸ™‚ good day

      1. I guess my point was lol that around here during winter is not ideal running conditions, it’s dangerous to run outside this past winter. Good day πŸ™‚

        1. I saw lots of people running this winter, even with snow/ice around. I guess we are populated by daredevils around Woburn. πŸ˜‰

          1. I’ve heard over and over and over and over on the news, runners, etc etc etc about how hard it was to run this year lol I’m not gonna go back and forth, sounds like no one on here is absent to say anything negative or accept what we have here in New England, I love New England but I refuse to pretend, as you can tell I’m not gonna say something fine when it’s not or if it can be better i won’t ignore it and just say everything’s just fine when it’s so not. Good day

            1. So again you are telling people what their opinions should be and telling them they are pretending because they don’t match yours? Wow. You truly are one of a kind. Amazing. πŸ™‚

              1. I’m not gonna sit here and say wbz did a good job with coverage, when they didn’t. That’s the problem with yourself and many others, when something isn’t good you speak up, u don’t sit there and say everything was great and fine. I can’t live a life in fake πŸ™‚ good day

  4. From NWS:

US National Weather Service Boston MA
    Yesterday at 11:34am Β·
A beautiful day continues across the region. Still looking for highs in 60s…to perhaps 70 in the Connecticut and Merrimack River Valleys

Once again, I think they are out of touch.

Should top 70 in all but typical South facing shore areas.

    1. Oops…

Damn. I just saw that this was from Yesterday.

Stupid me for not being more careful.

      My apologies. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  5. Thanks, TK.

My opinion on running, etc. in whatever type of weather. You can have what a lot of people would consider a beautiful day – sunny, temps. in the 60’s or 70’s and dry. But for some people, runners/spectators – it could get very hot running/standing in the sun. Or – it could be a cloudy and coolish day, temps. in the 50’s or 60’s – and some runners/spectators would say it’s too cool – or even on cloudy days – the sky can have a lot of glare. In other words – you can’t make everyone happy. And especially with the weather – and as I think TK expressed above – the weather is what it is – and we still can’t control it and we can’t make everyone happy. We watched part of the race yesterday and we found it very emotional – for those who won and for those who ran. I just want to put this in – what happened last year happened not far from where I went to college and the recent fire that killed those 2 firemen happened possibly where my dorm or school was. I graduated Chandler School .That area used to bring back happy and fun memories for me but now I have different feelings – sad but proud of the people of Boston.

Sorry for the long rant – nice day today – but back to the cold weather again. When will we get into the 80’s???

  6. This year wasn’t even top 30 coldest winters so not sure how or why the weather would have been an issue for training.

    1. It wasn’t an issue. I’ve been through training and you run no matter what. I’m not sure where he got that information but I have a hard time believing it.

    2. Early in the winter was cold but snow was sparse, and even when it did snow, it didnt seem to stick around till much later in the winter. I think the biggest issue with outdoor training around here is when there’s snow/ice on the ground for weeks at a time. I know my town did a horrendous job of clearing the sidewalks and they were completely snowcovered for many weeks. Running in the cold is fine, but when theres snow and ice hazards, thats when its difficult to train outdoors

      1. My fiance fell in some ice last year during the winter training for half marathons and she’s still recovering from some lingering pain from her injuries. She has no problem with the cold (prefers it actually), but its the road/sidewalk conditions and cars that are the real deterrents during the winter months for runners, esp in and around the city of boston

  7. See? Even I am guilty of complaining! In my post above I ask when will it get into the 80’s. I guess it’s just human nature.

  8. Probably the nicest April weekend in New England in my lifetime, weather-wise. Three very nice days in a row, on a weekend, in April.

Too bad bronchitis kept me from running the marathon. I’ve had it for close to 10 days now, ever since visiting my daughter in St. Paul. Been able to work most of the time, and don’t feel badly, but cannot do much physical exercise. Ran 3 miles the other day, and that was my limit. Before the bronchitis, I was doing 10, 15 miles on some days.

  9. Been reading about the training for half- and full-marathons. I must say I enjoyed training this winter. As long as you’re dressed for it, it’s really not a problem. I’m sure other runners will agree that running on a 15F day is easier than a 95F day. It’s the heat and humidity that bothers me and many runners the most.

    1. Joshua sorry you are not feeling well. I has the same over a month ago and just got rid of the cough. Hope you improve quickly.

      1. I am really sorry you could not run. The year my son did it, he didnt train more than running 6 miles a few times a week. I was a wreck. Afterwards he reminded me he walked 30 miles a day on the app trail. I sure wish he’d reminded me of that before πŸ™‚

        1. Congrats to your son. I haven’t run a marathon yet. Only half-marathons and 10k’s. Your son’s hiking must have helped. I’ve done my share of hiking over the years, but never 30 miles in a day!

  10. Thank you josh . Now that’s the truth from an experienced runner. It was not a big deal this winter if you were training .

    1. I think it’s more opinion, the winner is from Boston but moved to California many years ago, he specifically said it would have been much harder if he had been training here. He trained at San Diego state πŸ™‚

      1. Ick. San Diego. NO thanks.
I’ll take New England 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 times before I would consider San Diego, only to say NO again. πŸ™‚

          1. That’s fine. I don’t care about “the rule”. I like what I like. That ain’t changin’. πŸ™‚

And most of us ARE exceptional indeed. πŸ˜€

  11. UGH NAO now goes negative. If this could have only been during the winter and the storm tracked to the benchmark might have had a blockbuster.

  12. Started to lightly rain here, mild temp is 60.4 degrees, have a goodnight and goodnight πŸ™‚

  13. I’m from California, my husband is a 7-time marathoner. Ideal temp for him is 50. He’s trained in the desert (raised in Barstow…yuck.) and in New England winters.

Doesn’t matter either way. But if you asked him, he’d choose running in winter over the heat. You can always put layers on. There are only so many you can take off. πŸ˜‰

  14. It’s a no brainer that most runners would rather run in cooler tempatures. However when I was training for Falmouth and boston I did not mind the heat. I ran Falmouth in 06 and boston 07.

  15. When I ran cross country school in middle school I had my best times with cloudy cool days in the 50s and 60s.

    1. You can get away with a short sleeve but you’d need a jacket for sure.

50s most of the day, lots of wind, and sun may be limited.

      1. Went to work SANS jacket and was perfectly comfortable.

I hate jackets and avoid them whenever I can. πŸ˜€

  16. COLD air aloft tomorrow. Not only setting the stage for pop up showers, but also some hail possible. Thunder cannot be ruled out.

  17. you all saying long sleeves it must be a young generation but 50+ is shorts and t shirt weather for me πŸ˜›

    1. lol, matt, i’ll give u 50s with sun and no wind maybe, but 50s cloudy windy and light rain?

  18. Besides today’s rain, there will be plenty of wind and even windier tomorrow, and as TK mentioned maybe a little hail today. Dress appropriately.

  19. It must be very cold aloft. There is snow falling in the highest elevations of western MA and into NY

  20. I’m surprised to see the sun. I’d better get on that deck before it is too late. A thunderstorm would be the icing on the cake IMHO

    1. I complain a lot in late winter, early Spring …. but, I do like the 4 seasons and the different aspects they bring.

    2. Wonderful article. Thank you for sharing. The rest of the country doesn’t know what its missing and I’m happy to keep it that way πŸ˜‰

  21. Woke up to a gorgeous day. Left for work in overcast threatening weather.
    New England weather.

With NO sunshine for fuel, wondering IF we see any hail at all???

    1. Yes, but you need something to add fuel to the fire and create
the necessary lift. I’m guessing no hail, unless the SUN comes out
      for awhile. πŸ˜€

  22. Old Salty, no backup disks for my computer. I have someone looking at it. Hoping they can at least recover files.

      1. Yes. My whole checkbook was on there…..not happy about that either. No recent backup for that. Good thing I have a good memory for numbers.

  23. Got dark and threatening here but just a little light to moderate rain came through, no thunder or hail. This batch now approaching boston. I think more will develop through the morning though

  24. Wow. Was in the deck and felt a couple of drops so stayed…..in minutes it was a heavier, steadier rain. The grey of the ocean in many ways is a beautiful as the deep blue on a sunny day. I can’t believe a month has nearly passed πŸ™

  25. Lighting strikes reported all over Lexington with one person getting struck at a golf course and a house on fire.

    1. YIKES!

      That’s horrible.

A few years ago, a house was struck around the corner from us.
Vicious bolt of lightning. It blew a hole through their roof and ignited
their attic. It did much damage with loads of water damage. They were
without their house for many many months.

      I do RESPECT lightning!!!

    2. OK,
I guess there is enough lift without the Sun. Looks like I may be wrong
      about the hail.

    1. Next batch of showers and (storms ?) gathering to our south and west. Looks to arrive within an hour.

After 4 sunny days, the last 2 being mild, I dont mind a cloudy day.

      1. That first batch didnt seem like anything south of boston but intensified as it pivoted north of boston. I wonder if that is the area of best lift dynamics

        1. I was thinking … that band north of Boston …. a month ago would have been 1-2 inch snows per hour and its kind of sitting in place, while rotating counter-clockwise.

          Oh well. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      2. So far, Only one of the storms is indicated for HAIL possibility.
Coincidentally, it “appears” to be on course for Marshfield.

Currently pegged as having a 20% of HAIL less than 1/2 inch
        in diameter.

Doppler Radar Detected Storms ID Max Top VIL Severe Hail Hail Max Hail Size Speed Direction (from)
        1 S1 57 dBZ 12,000 ft. 12 kg/mΒ² 0% chance 20% chance <0.50 in. 37 knots SSW (203)

        We shall see. πŸ˜€

  26. Just posted a quick update.
Sorry for the lack of detail.
    Crazy couple days.

    Be back a bit later!
