The Week Ahead

12:45AM

This week starts with a very special day in this part of the world. Patriots Day, also the day of the Boston Marathon, is an important day in the Boston area. We have history and tradition. There will be a re-enactment of the battle that started the Revolutionary War in Lexington and Concord MA at dawn. It will be fair and chilly for that with temperatures in the upper 30s under a mostly clear, brightening sky, with light wind. There is, of course, The Boston Marathon, which takes on even more significance this year – one year after the bombing. The weather for this great race will be nearly perfect, cool to mild air, generally light wind, with a bit of a cooling sea breeze near the finish. And don’t forget about the Boston Red Sox, playing their annual late-morning start home game at Fenway Park. It will be a great day for April baseball.

How about the rest of the week? Here’s a quick summary.

A cold front approaches Tuesday, which will be a mild to warm day (cooler South Coast due to wind off water). Rain showers will arrive from the west in the evening, making for a fairly wet night.

Front pushes offshore early Wednesday, which may being with some showers, as low pressure forms on the front and intensifies while moving away. The balance of the day ends up windy and cooler with breaking clouds.

Thursday will likely be the brightest day of the week as high pressure moves in from the west, but low pressure to the east will still be close enough to cause a gusty breeze between itself and the approaching high. Cool air will dominate.

Late week will see the approach, passage, and departure of a low pressure area, the timing of which is uncertain. For now, will go for an increase in clouds Friday, wet weather at night, lingering showers into Saturday, then variably cloudy weather with some lingering threat of showers later Saturday and Sunday.

Forecast for southeastern New England…

TUESDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Rain showers arriving late day into the night. Highs in the 50s South Coast, 60s to around 70 elsewhere. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy and windy. Chance of showers early. Low 49. High 59.

  1. TK, thank you as always. A little cool this morning. I’m leaving the house to walk part of the Marathon route. Looks like a great day for the race and the ballgame.

  2. Thanks TK !

Today is same sun angle as Aug 21st. My youngest actually got a bit red on her shoulders yesterday from the strong sun.

I was curious what the highs were the last 5 August 21st’s at Logan …

    90F, 73F, 89F, 83F, 86F.

  3. Geez wbz haven’t a tough time covering the marathon, all these glitzes and bad videoing, I’m disappointed, you would figure they would have this down to a science. Anyways beautiful here 55.4 degrees

    1. I noticed a lot of trouble with the remote signal from the trucks. They rely on cell phone signals and that is always a problem.

      1. You know what though? That was all a very minor annoyance considering the overall scope of today. What a class act this city is. What a class act New England is. We just showed again, as a region, why we’re #1. Maybe we don’t do everything perfectly, but you cannot beat the spirit of Boston. Good luck trying. 🙂

        1. We all watched on TV and young and old agree with you TK. Our focus was on the day and the athletes and the courage and the city that is boston.

        2. I agree, but still would have thought they would then improve cell phone coverage, and would want better coverage

  4. Thanks TK. Wind shifted and there is a steady and moderate breeze from what feels like the south. Quite cool and hopefully good for the runners.

  5. It’s been great for all the racers (runners, wheel chair racers, etc.). What an enjoyable race (or set of races) to be watching. 🙂

Don’t forget this is also Team Hoyt’s last Boston Marathon. What a team they have been. 🙂

Now, if the Red Sox could wake up and realize they are playing baseball right now, that would be even better. 😀

    1. Vicki has a theory….surprise. When the sox do well first half of the season, they get overconfident and blow the rest. To me they have always been the comeback kids. Let’s see if they hit their stride

    1. A good friend of my parents was on the team searching for Nessie. Back in the 70s as I recall. I know he lived in Belmont. Perhaps worked for MIT ….. Stuff like that fascinates me

  6. This is the first year ever, that I did not watch the marathon at all. The sensationalism presented by the media has made me loose my interest. This started weeks ago with the fake finishes and the fake starts. They have over used and over exaggerated every story line including the Boston Strong chant. I hopefully in a couple of years it will be about the runners and charities and not the make believe stuff. Good luck to everyone who ran and the supporters.

    1. I agree coastal, but I must say as a group this is the 1st time we’ve actually sat down and watched the 1st 2.5 hrs of the race. We’ve never done that, and we actually really enjoyed it, other than the terrible coverage by wbz, it was a good experience. Take it easy 🙂

        1. I think it was great for all the people affected last year, the families, runners and the city of boston. And an American run how great.

  7. Thanks TK! My cats are BEYOND HAPPY to have the window open right now 😀

The marathon was great, as was the weather! Though, I spent most of the day watching the marathon and doing homework…I still enjoyed it!

  8. Blog is updated!
No real changes from the previous.
In fact, I kinda cheated, using the same discussion with a few modifications. 😉
