Warm Front Cold Front

8:45PM

A warm front will approach the region through Thursday night with clouds dominating, along with a slight chance of spotty light rain during the day Thursday and an increasing chance of rain at night into early Friday. This front is expected to push through the region Friday, putting southeastern New England into the warm sector with partial sun, humid air, and a chance of a few showers/thunderstorms. A cold front will approach from the west Friday night and slowly cross the region during the overnight hours and early Saturday with a more widespread area of showers and thunderstorms. The front should push offshore by later in the morning with improving weather for the rest of the day. High pressure builds in Saturday night and Sunday and sets up a very nice Father’s Day.

Early next week still looks quite warm with a round or 2 of showers and thunderstorms possible.

  1. Please wish great weather for next Friday, my niece is getting married in Newport and outside!!! She’s freaking out looking at accuweather and weather channel. I keep telling her we have it covered 🙂

  2. Tk did you post your summer forcast last weekend? I know you were going to and I’m not sure if I missed it. Cool summer in store?

  3. Good morning.

Really NICE out there again. Still a bit cool, but with some sunshine it is
    most pleasant.

MANY THANKS TK for your update.

    Sunday looks spectacular!!!

    1. Ahhh the difference a few miles makes. I haven’t seen the sun all morning and the air feels as if we are at the beach with a touch of salt smell. My daughter is freezing. I love the feel 🙂

      1. I was out and about, Sans Coat, and it was really nice.
I did, however, see many folks bundled up. Must be the
        WIMPS among us. 😀

It just needs to be above 60 with NO RAIN or DRIZZLE
        and I’m happy.

  4. Hmmm

All of the hoopla with the GFS and Cape and Lifted Index for tomorrow
    was FICTICIOUS!!! He he he

Perhaps a BIT on Saturday. 😀

  5. The sun came out here for a bit in Norwell and the temps shot up and it was very sticky for about a half hour or so….now back to cloudy skies again.

  6. FWIW,

The big bad GFS has totally and completely GIVEN UP on that major tropical
system for our area. The 12Z run yesterday croaked us. 12Z run today, NADA!!

    😆

      1. Yes of course, If you remember Oil Can Boyd, Cleveland is
on the OCEAN! So, indeed, it could end up there. 😆

  7. TK, if you’re around, what do you think of our rain/storm chances in eastern MA for Saturday? 12z models today look a little wetter for that time. The Euro looks pretty good for some storms as well with dew points near 70 and some pretty impressive CAPE values, near 2000J if I’m reading it right. Could that happen if the front is a little slower to clear?

    1. Hmm

      You’re correct for the Euro.
Cape around 1500 for Boston and 2000 in a small Bulls eye to the SE.

      Total totals NOT impressive, however.

We’ll have to watch for sure.

    2. There is some impressive parameters there on the Euro and we’ll have to watch the timing of the front but I still think the front itself will be moving offshore in the morning. Without a post-frontal surface trough we probably would only see pop up showers/storms behind the front in lingering instability, but that activity would likely be isolated to scattered at best, and should all be gone by mid afternoon.

So far I like the timing I outlined above. There is a chance that the cold front stuff, marching in overnight, may actually weaken and die out.

      1. TK, Curious.

Which is the most impressive parameter on the Euro?

Total totals was not, however, a couple of the others like
Vertical totals and cross totals were.

One indicated scattered severe with isolated tornadoes.

BUT that is one parameter. Obviously, one has to look at them
        all and evaluate.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

        Many thanks TK

    1. Front is slowing down or shall I say, the model has a better handle on timing.

Take a look at the numbers for Saturday. Notice the spike in numbers in
      Eastern sections?

Euro shows this as well as alluded to by WxWatcher above.

If the timing slows, we could get croaked on Saturday. If it is just right NOTHING or very little happens tomorrow or Saturday.

      We shall see.

  8. Thanks TK! Personally I thought the weather was perfect for field day today. The kids and the volunteers were all very comfortable.

  9. Tonight there will be a true full moon at 12:11 am. Sometimes this called a strawberry moon. Given the cloud cover, we won’t see it.

    1. It will be the last full moon on Friday the 13th until 2049. Tomorrow is my oldest grandchilds 7th birthday.

  10. That is the second major hurricane in the eastern Pacific and the season is not even a month old.

  11. Barry Burbank indicating a changing forecast for the weekend. He is beginning to talk about more rain on Saturday and maybe cloudy and/or rain for Sunday. UGH!

    1. It’s New England. We should expect crap like that.

Last evening, Eric was great guns about Sunday and even Saturday afternoon.

I was looking at some models late yesterday and some were showing an upper
level low sitting right over us. That’s not usually a good situation for us.

      We shall see.

      1. NWS discussion indicates really fine weather for Sunday, however,
Saturday could be iffy IF front is slow to clear the coast.

They are optimistic that it will clear the coast early enough
to salvage at least part of Saturday.

        Again, we shall see.

          1. What’s so ugh about that? Plans for Saturday AM?
That would do it for sure. 😀

    2. That’s based on in house RPM that was showing this, Eric Fisher said it was garbage last night, but did not rule out crappier weather.

  12. Interesting movement on the current batch of showers moving through the area.

    SE to NW.

  13. my yard is literally one large mud puddle, can’t sea across the marshland right now the rain is so heavy

    1. Indeed it is.

I attended Northeastern University. Now there is a beautiful campus!
      NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. Wellesley is a gorgeous campus. We used to walk around the pond. Babson is not far from there is an spectacular also. Nice area. Glad you enjoyed. Mac does not like to drive through Wellesley with me……the folks are interesting to say the very least and often forget others in the world exist and I can be vocal 😉

  14. Good afternoon!! Boston makes the final 4 for summer Olympics. I’m so happy for the city 🙂

  15. We are trying to get everyone together for a Father’s Day visit to Mac. The facility he will move to has a great outdoor area. Am I understanding correctly that tomorrow may be questionable? Perhaps we should definitely plan for Sunday?? Doesn’t matter if it is sunny as long as we can be outside. I don’t think they’ll want the entire crew to descend on his room 🙂

  16. hmm apparently Boston made the short list for holding the 2024 summer olympics. Have mix feelings about it.

  17. Its a great we are in the selection but we have zero chance of getting the bid. Not enough hotels and limited space to build.

    1. We have plenty enough hotels needed to hold the Olympics just like we have the 30,000 hotels for a Super Bowl, the problem will be selling it to the people that boo hoo anything different. There r plenty of hotels hadi 🙂

  18. We might have good hotels but the space would be the issue. As I have a B.S in Hospitality from BU I think I know what is needed 🙂

    1. Agree Hadi, not a chance in hell.
It was just a kindness bestowed upon our City to make the short list. 😀

  19. I am not as worried about the hotel space as the space to build the structures necessary for all of the venues. Either way – nice that Boston is on the list.

  20. I found this. Anyone know how many rooms we do have. And if it is in fact a requirement why put us on list. Odd

The idea of Boston hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics is a stretch, but boosters still have the gleam of Olympic gold in their eyes. A special commission established by the Legislature has been hearing breathless testimony about the good an Olympics bid could do to stimulate construction jobs and finally get the state to commit new resources to the MBTA.

Boston would need that money, and more: The U.S. Olympic Committee, which will be reviewing domestic bids, requires the host city to have not just reliable public transit, but an Olympic village that can accommodate 16,500 athletes, technical support for more than 15,000 media and 45,000 hotel rooms — far more than Boston has now.

  21. Sorry if I missed any comments/questions in the last 24 hours. Been insanely busy.

I have a little free time in the next hour in which the blog will get updated along with a crude summer outlook (in less detail than I want but maybe that’s ok). 😉

  22. Living in Boston during construction for an Olympics let alone the arrival of hundreds of thousands of people would be a nightmare. The construction arround the boston area stretching into the suburbs and to areas further out would dwarf the Big Dig. The traffic for years prior to the Games would be unbelieveable. The London Olympics attracted 500,000 people from other countries. During the first three days of the summer Olympics in London, over 2 million seats were sold. What would the burden be for residents of the greater B-town area?
