    Thanks Hadi

  2. Oh, TK. So sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. As Hadi says, don’t worry about the blog. Focus on your family.

  3. TK like all in your family here, My heart is broken this morning hearing your news. We are all saying prayers for your dad, you, your mom and your entire family.

I know it is hard for you to do, but please put the blog aside and focus on you.

  4. TK, please know that I am keeping you all in my prayers as you go through this difficult time. I agree with the sentiments above, focus on you and your family and put the blog last. Hang in there my friend.

  5. Very sorry to hear about this TK, best wishes to you and your family, take care and definitely don’t worry about the blog.

  6. TK do not worry about the blog,
Sorry to hear about your father, Its very sad not knowing when or how he is going to go. They say a time frame and it could happen sooner or much later. I know the feeling of not knowing when someone was going to pass it stinks, but every moment you spend with him and all other family will make him feel better. Do not worry about the blog. every minute counts

  7. I hope you get to spend a lot of time with your dad in the coming days. I know I did with my mom four years ago and found it helped greatly. The hospice experience I saw was comforting as well, at one point the woman had my mom gently laughing and the hospice folks were so comforting. I hope the experience is peaceful and somewhat comforting for all involved. God Bless ……….

  8. So sorry to hear about your Dad. Please do what you need to do and do not worry about us. Be with your Dad as much as you can.

  9. TK, so sorry to hear your news today. Spend these coming days with your Dad and your family and don’t worry about us here. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you go through this tough time.

    1. JPD it sure feels different than yesterday. There is a lovely breeze. However, still seems to have that feel of heat to come.

      1. Wind at Boston is from 220 degrees, a bit more of a component off of ocean to our South than yesterday’s wind at 240 and 250 degrees which had more of a Westerly component. That could be it. I know’s is subtle, but it doesn’t take much to effect a change.

  10. I am sorry to hear about your father TK. Don’t worry about updating the blog. We can all keep posting our comments here until things settle down at home. Family should always come first.

  11. From NWS about 45 minutes ago:

NOT QUITE AS HOT AS YESTERDAY…BUT MAXES WILL
LIKELY REACH INTO THE LOWER 90S IN NE MA AND PORTIONS OF THE CT
VALLEY AND WELL INTO THE 80S ELSEWHERE. BEST CHANCE OF AT LEAST
TYING RECORD MAXES WILL BE AT BOS/BDL. IT WILL BE QUITE HUMID
WITH DEWPOINTS UPPER 60S TO LOWER 70S

fyi Boston’s record high today is 93.
Last night Eric predicted 93 for Boston. Other outlets predicted 90 and 91.

      1. Yes, I had Eric on my mind and typed in the 93 he forecast instead of the 91 that I knew was the record. My fingers don’t always type what my mind is thinking.

        Sorry about that.

        1. Oh haha. Shows how I read …or don’t. I read the forecast and didn’t notice you had typed 93. Sorry from me. I was just adding to the conversation 🙁

  12. TK, thanks for the update.

Take advantage of the time you have left with your father, and don’t worry about anything else.

  13. Looking like a good dose of rain between Thursday around 5pm to Friday noontime. I’m thinking .60-1.25 across the area. Any thoughts or input?

    1. Yes, I think there could be downpours Thursday evening/night and plain rain Friday morning. But, I think the system is out of here by Friday afternoon.

I have changed my plans and will take the train to Providence tomorrow late afternoon, and return by train late night. Don’t want to be stuck in traffic, whether rain or game-related. I’ve also delayed my Vermont trip until Friday afternoon to avoid driving in the rain Friday morning.

  14. Interesting to see that far Northern Canada (eastern side) has had a 7-10 day spell of above normal temperatures, the only such period in a very long time. That spell will come to an end by Friday as temps will return to their trend of well below normal.

  15. I’ve been told tomorrow night Patriots game will be the biggest night the stadium has ever seen. Be sure to be in your seats by 8pm, if not before. 🙂

    1. Tom my brother in law said next three days in San Francisco area are expected to be 100. I have to check DP but they have had an u usually hot summer for that area

        1. It sure is and great point about fires. I dont know how the entire summer has been out there but we have talked to my BIL a fair amount this summer and it has been above 90 several of those times

    2. Is this it for the season? I love the summer heat, but I really worry about the kids in those hot classrooms, especially kids with asthma.

      1. A retired teacher on one of the blogs reminded me that when I was in school, we had tall ceilings and huge windows that opened and shades to draw when the sun was on our side of the building. It is how a good deal of Europe (Italy I know for sure) cools their homes

He said the schools built post WWII are smaller without tall ceilings, lots of glass but with crank windows that barely open. They literally attract and store heat. I thought it was an interesting and valid point.

  16. TK, you have been blessed to still have your parents with you at your age. Very blessed, but still does not make it easier. Enjoy and embrace your time together. The sadness and learning to live without them is the hardest part. Keep your head up!

  17. 2PM Logan OBS

    Temperature: 93
    Dew Point: 62

That translates to not quite as bad as yesterday.

Is dry air aloft being mixed down to the ground?

  18. TK sorry to hear that your Dad is not doing well. I know we’ve talked about the age of our fathers in the past and I consider myself very lucky as even though my Dad is in a nursing home at age 93–he is doing well and I could my blessings every day. Take care and my thoughts are with you.

  19. The dew points were higher here than yesterday. Once again we had a lot of schools here in CT dismiss early.
I have never seen back to back days of early dismissals due to heat.

  20. Coastal I hate 3 H weather but even more so in September. When September 1st hits I want those cool crisp autumn days just like when April 1st hits I want spring.
Good decisions by the superintendants to dismiss school early here in CT with the schools that don’t have AC.

    1. I totally agree re schools. I am not minding this weather but this is the one time of year I have trouble keeping the anticipation of my favorite season of the year at bay. I did watch the kids playing in a small blowup pool yesterday and felt sad summer will soon come to an end. I’m always torn at the start of one season and the end of another. But like you JJ, I do love those cool, crisp, Apple picking type of mornings.

  21. First September heat wave for inland CT since 1983. This is something that has never happened in my lifetime.
I would like summer a lot more if we didn’t have to deal with 3 H weather.

        1. My son was as well. Was interesting being pregnant in that excessive Heat. Your mom may have mentioned it to you:)

      1. I was born July 1983, my mom was just telling me today how tough that summer was trying to keep me cool 😎

        1. Ahhh I knew moms would remember. June 1984 was miserable also. Did your mom have AC? Tell her I send a hug and have been having parallel memories 🙂

  22. Winds have veered around more to the South, resulting in slightly less hot temperatures
out there. Boston is 90 with wind from 190.

Norwood is 90 with wind from 180

Blue is 87 with wind from 180.

    1. Actually, I wasn’t thinking. I do believe that would be Backed around.
Veering would be the other direction. Duh. Sorry

  23. Tk any latest thoughts are how much rain across the area tomorrow? Hope everything is going as good as could be

  24. Charlie here is the NWS take. TK doesn’t need to bother with our questions. He needs to focus on his family

@NWSBoston: Showers & thunderstorms likely Thu, becoming more widespread Thu night & Fri. Expect roughly 1-1.5″ of rain. http://t.co/YCHVnFKf9V

    1. The ch 4 and 5 simulated radars are on their videocasts looked impressive, initially in eastern areas and then things moved north and west for a while.

While not hot tomorrow, I have a feeling eastern areas are going to be quite tropical until after midnight tomorrow night.

Need a break of cool, dry air soon.

    2. Geez Hadi I had a bossy post back at you, grr 🙂 but I’m going to be nice and simply say, thank you for the response. 🙂

Tk I hope things are going well 🙂

  25. TK,

I know I have not contributed much to the blog much lately but I have been keeping an eye on the blog. You do a tremendous job and your analysis has been spot on. I am sorry that you are going through this very difficult time. My thoughts and deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family.

  26. Hi all, I have a question/grumble that I am sure can be elaborated on. I would love a better perspective on the weather websites forecast percentages.

It always peeves me a bit when I look at the 5 day weather and it states that there is a 100% chance of rain on, in this case, Friday but the next day it is down to 70% chance of rain.

My simpleton brain computes 100% chance of rain as there is no chance it won’t rain. So why do they use these #s this way when everyone knows there can not be certainty with weather, especially more than a few days out.

As always, I love WHW, TK you always provide information in an enlightening, process-able and realistic way. Commenters always contributing good info and incite with some good laughs mixed in.

    Thanks all!

tldr- Why is the term “100% chance of rain” used 5+ days in advance?

    1. To me that’s leaning a little too much on model forecasts, or just plugging in of model data. Rain percentages really don’t need to be used more than 1 day in advance, 2 at most, in my opinion. It makes less and less sense to apply them the further you go out in time, simply due to the fact that our ability to predict the weather declines rather rapidly as you move up in time before verification.

    1. I chuckled when I saw your lightening show pics Emily. All I couldthink of was only a WHW blogger would post a lightening show. I think I see a tad of TKs influence here 🙂

      Hope your magic is perfect.

  27. So excited for football to start tomorrow night through Monday night!! Hope all Pat fans are cheering for the Skins this weekend as we are playing the Dolphins. Also think the Fins are the Patriots biggest challenge this year. They have a very good defense and a descent QB.
Bills could be really good bc they have a tremendous defense but starting QB is awful. Pats will put a tons of yards and points but will give up a bunch. Brady will be league MVP as I think he a lot to prove this season. Plus I think BB will no mercy on anyone just bc they are pissed about the entire offseason.

Let’s do an AFC division challenge and look back at the end of the year.

    1-Patriots-12-4
    2-Dolphins-11-5
    3-Bills 7-9
    4- Jets 5-11

      1. Seriously. I have to do math for this dont I.? It is nighttime. I’ll be back in the morning…or a morning or two

  28. TK, I hope you’re having some good moments with your father. If I may share a brief story about my father’s passing. Two years ago my daughter Lisa and I visited him for the last time at his nursing home. He hadn’t spoken for two days and appeared semi-conscious. Yet, he squeezed Lisa’s hand and uttered softly “mouse” (a nickname he called her when she was an infant and toddler – we spent several years in my parents’ home when Lisa was an infant and toddler). He adored Lisa and all his grandchildren. We left the nursing home and planned on coming back the next day. He passed away in the evening. I’ll never forget the moment he squeezed Lisa’s hand and said “mouse.”

    1. Joshua thank you for sharing your very special memory. It is those memories and so many more that keep our loved ones with us forever

    1. Great video. Thanks Hadi. For the record I always root for your Redskins but you know that. And JJs Cowboys. A great game is a great game

  29. Thank you everybody and a special thank you to Joshua for sharing that touching story. 🙂

I have a little time to rest and take care of a few things at home and I will put in a short updated forecast. It really doesn’t take much for me to do it and honestly it’s good to focus on other things for short periods of time. I’ll be back from time to time to add some thoughts to the weather situation as we move through the day and evening Thursday.
