Friday Forecast

7:32AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 4-8)…
High pressure builds in today and sits over the region much of the weekend before sinking to the south and drifting away eventually during early next week. This will result in day weather and above normal temperatures for much of if not all of this 5-day period. Next Tuesday we’ll be watching possible low pressure approaching from the southwest, but it’s too far away to be sure if this will have an impact.
TODAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 43-48. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Lows in the 20s. Wind light W.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 48-53. Wind light variable.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.
MONDAY: Sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.
TUESDAY: Increasing clouds. Lows in the 30s. Highs 45-55.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 9-13)…
Unsettled weather possible December 9 depending on the track of low pressure near the East Coast. Another round of unsettled weather is possible later in the period. Otherwise fair weather dominates overall with temperatures above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 14-18)…
Mainly dry weather and above normal temperatures will remain dominant.

  1. Thanks TK !

Appears Caribou, ME received 3.1 inches of wet snow yesterday and Presque Isle, ME received 5 to 5.5 inches.

Highest reported total was 8.5 inches.

    1. Yes indeed. I thought El Niño was supposed to cause more precipitation events further south into California?

      1. I thought so as well, Ace. I thought I saw rain moving in to San Francisco area with high winds but my eyes were not open completely. That area, however, didn’t have the drought impact that south of there has had. I’ll have to check to see what that area is going to receive

      2. Not automatically. The PNW is not immune. As the season goes on it will either expand or shift south to include CA.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

    Yawn…boring…yawn….boring….

At leas the weather will be nice for our big office Christmas
    party tonight. 😀

  3. I hate it when we get stuck in these above normal temperature patterns. The only season I like is winter. Can’t I just have some cold weather? We haven’t had one single cold night, let alone one cold day. Okay, I’m done venting!

    1. Although I like more than one season, I do understand where you are coming from. I like seasonable weather. Anytime it’s unseasonable for long periods of time I get edgy. My comfort zone is crisp and cold in December. It looks like this month will be unseasonable for the foreseeable future. Don’t lose hope, however. Cold weather will make its present felt. Yes, even during an El Nino winter. And once El Nino begins to `wear off’ mid to late winter will most definitely get chilly.

      1. Temp here is 45 with a steady breeze. Was just out putting up some Christmas lights and had to switch to a heavier jacket. This from the person who doesn’t wear a jacket except when outside for more than 15 or so minutes. There is a cold wind a blowin’ 🙂

        1. So true, Vicki. Today does feel normal for sure. It’s most of the other days that don’t. I’m not saying it’s a horrible thing to have an atypical pattern, but I just feel out of sorts.

  4. Suspicious package blown up on Atlantic ave boston. Son said they had guy who left it mid trip on red line train. This may be old news but know a few here work in Boston.

    1. I work close to where this occurred. Law enforcement is understandably nervous. It appears the suitcase contained wires and a power source. Whether there were explosives has not been revealed. Of course, the nervousness won’t end any time soon, particularly in light of what is becoming clear was an ISIS-inspired terrorist act in San Bernadino.

      1. Stay safe, Joshua. My son is about a mile away too. The report I heard (and might change) was the person left the package next to a homeland security vehicle and hurried away. Why would someone leave something with wires, etc. I would not want to be on the train and am hoping he has been removed from it.

        1. Our posts crossed paths, and so my response to myself contains some of the information contained in your post.

      2. Replying my own post: Frightening part is that suitcase was placed close to a homeland security vehicle. Even if it was a fake device that’s a serious crime in my view. While we all have a right to be critical of our government, targeting government officials and threatening with violence is very, very wrong.

        1. Agree and there would have to be an awfully believable explanation for leaving a suitcase with wires in that manner.

I am not seeing anything on the news about the red line train. Curious.

  5. Thanks tk 🙂

I’m loving what the long range says, and I’m sure the majority, not necessarily on a weather blog, but the general public is very very happy. Keep it coming!! Love it!!! Enjoy the day folks!!! 🙂

    1. True, the majority of people are liking it. This said, it’s a long-range forecast. I think the next 10-15 days are pretty much a certainty in terms of relative mildness. After that it’s much less certain, especially as we approach January. I do think this winter will wind up on the relatively mild side. But, it will not be a repeat of 2011-2012. In fact, I believe it’ll turn out being slightly below average in terms of snowfall and slightly above in terms of temperature, but no dramatic departures from normal.

      1. As long as it’s not like last year, and maybe we can have a treat of a winter, instead of a trick of a winter, a late Halloween joke 🙂

      2. I remember receiving snow already in past winters, and the winter seems so much longer, so if we can get into Jan with little snow, that’s one for the good guys 🙂 🙂

        1. I do understand, Charlie. I was married to someone who wasn’t a fan of winter. Her biggest complaint was the length of winter. I did understand her viewpoint and I acknowledge that she’s in the majority.

          1. Winter here is much to long, hence why there are millions of New England transplants spread out in North Carolina to Texas to California, this is not a shot at here, unfortunately it’s just the truth. I like snow and cold, but winters here are a bit intrusive to everyday life IMO. Once March comes I want 60+ everyday, and once November begins, I don’t want to be thinking snow. If our winters were more like 2 months, that would be much more tolerable. Have a great weekend!! 🙂

                1. Here it’s only winter if it snows, unfortunately in my book, once it goes below 45 for highs, and below 30 for lows on a consistent basis, it’s winter. Last year was absolute torture 😉

  6. Winter 2016-17 will be here before you know it. 🙂

Also, just for everyone’s info…Winter 2015-16 is still a good 2+ weeks away! I am already sensing early season panic from the WHW crowd before the season even begins. 😉

As long as El Niño is behaving itself, then I am OK with it. 🙂

    1. True, Philip. Surely, this is an El Nino year. But, we’ve had many Decembers like this that wound up providing us with plenty of snow and cold. Gosh, even last year’s December was relatively mild, and then what happened … I am NOT saying last year will repeat itself. It won’t. But, winter will kick into gear, and I think it will come in short bursts and sooner than we think.

  7. Thank you all.

How Nice, we will be headed to Atlantic Avenue for our Christmas party this
    evening. Geez.
