Thursday Forecast

3:34AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 3-7)…
Low pressure pulls away through the Gulf of Maine into the Canadian Maritimes today while intensifying. The air flow between this deepening storm and approaching high pressure from the west will cause increasing wind. After any early showers exit Cape Cod, dry air will overtake the region, and though clouds may hang around for a while in the morning, sun will become dominant during the afternoon. Relatively cool air will move in and peak Friday as high pressure builds in, but this high will move overhead and then sink to the south during the weekend, resulting in fair weather with a warming trend. A weak disturbance will bring some clouds by Monday.
TODAY: Early morning areas of dense fog reducing visibility but fog dissipating by mid morning. Variably cloudy this morning including a chance of rain showers early morning across Cape Cod. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny this afternoon. Morning highs around 50 then cooling into the 40s. Wind W increasing to 15-25 MPH with gusts above 30 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows in the 30s. Wind W 10-20 MPH and gusty.
FRIDAY: Sunny. Highs in the 40s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sunny. Lows 25-35. Highs 45-55.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Lows 35-45. Highs 55-65.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Lows 35-45. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 8-12)…
Watching a potential for unsettled weather, likely rain, from late December 8 to early December 10. Another system may bring more unsettled weather at the end of the period. Temperatures above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 13-17)…
Unsettled weather early in the period then mainly dry weather returns. Temperatures above normal.

    1. Was that meant to be ice or nice?
Looks nice to me, but not necessarily ice.

But I’m 1/2 asleep, so what do I know.

  1. All I see down the road are a series of LAKES CUTTERS interspersed
with a few coastal huggers with unusually warmth.

    1. That’s what I see 🙂

Don’t worry we will receive snow,,, eventually. This is not a shot at you, just this is New England, and we will see some snow, probably January, but we will get some, then I’ll be in your shoes. 🙂

    2. The Lakes systems will likely be rooted out of the northern stream or break-off southern stream energy and many of the “huggers” will likely let go early and slip east out to sea due to no phasing. This is indeed mild…but drier than average.

    1. Yup just put up the Christmas lights. I had no jacket at first, but because of
the wind threw on a sweatshirt. Even so, still really nice out, albeit not very
      sunny at the moment.

      1. Can you come do ours now please ???

Kids didn’t get them up last weekend because the roof was being done. But inside is complete…except the manger which goes in the fireplace and I cannot get them to stop having fires. 🙁

  2. the two northern most corners of the USA have winter storm warnings/watches/ advisories, Rest of country is quiet

  3. Rather dreary and windy. A continuation of November weather.

While the mild regime is definitely dominating, don’t rule out wintry weather. Yes, even the second half of this month despite what the long-range models say on December 3rd. What I’ve noticed during El Nino years is the surprise factor. Just when you’ve been lulled into complacency with days and days of 40s (and even 50s) an anomalous and temporary dip in the northern jet stream makes it cold and sometimes snowy, too, though not for extended periods.

  4. I have to be honest and say I love this weather !

50s this weekend, maybe the next mild surge could be warmer, at least judging by the projected 850 mb temps for days 9 and 10.

No driving worries, it’s not too difficult to stay outside for extended periods, no cancellations, no scraping off the vehicles …..

    More of this weather !!!

And once everyone has arrived at their destination on 12/24, a few inches of snow would be great !!!!!!!

    1. That would be correct, sir. They’ve already had some accumulating snows in November in places like Van Buren, Maine. Looks like more winter for them. Gusty winds, too.

  5. I’m not a fan of this weather. To me it’s mostly rather dark and bleak, with occasional glimpses of the sun the past 5 days. Reminds me of the grays I experienced when living in Holland. I loved the place, but sometimes felt like I needed light therapy and some invigorating cold. When I returned to Boston for good in the fall of 1995 I definitely got my wish. December 1995 was VERY different from December 2015. It was quite cold and snowy.

    1. The overall pattern is quite sunny. We just went through a rather brief cloudier interlude. Diurnal clouds tomorrow but plenty of sun in the coastal plain because of the downslope dry-out. Full sunshine this weekend. Fair amounts of sun Monday.

    1. Yuck! Chemistry summer class?!? Good luck Matt! I took Physics I and II during one summer in college and it was brutal

  6. TK – Based on your thoughts above, does this mean that any chance of December snow now off the table for now? 🙁

    1. No it absolutely does not mean that.

Weather can turn just like that even in a persistent pattern. One of these times moisture is going to coincide with cold.

  7. Geez judging by models, a blow torch for the rest of December is in store. Personally keep it coming!! 🙂
