  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

Chilly this morning. Down to 36 at my house.
    Beautiful at the same time.

    re: Sox Bah Bah Bah
At this point, I don’t give a rat’s ass. They couldn’t hit a beach ball. They were
pathetic. I blame Farrell and management. Why you ask?
Farrell: he lost the clubhouse after “backing” into winning the
AL East Division. It’s like they didn’t even try to win after that and they could NOT
turn the switch back on for the playoffs. Also, he probably should have started
Rodriguez or even Pomeranz rather than SucKholz.
Management: for their dumb-ass decision to sign David “loser” Price! Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

There you have it. End of rant. Back to weather

    1. I know that temperature does not compare to suburban readings, but
I thought it wasn’t bad for a City neighborhood.

      1. I was actually surprised that seeing you at 36 we were not lower. I am not sure what it was before my eyes opened, however.

  2. Good morning and thank you, TK. Hope you are 100% better.

Frost on the pumpkin this am – and everywhere else. Had to leave daughter’s house for my 8 minute commute to mine for an early morning conference call. Took a bit to run the car to defrost. I LOVE this weather!!!

    1. No – dog sitting at daughter’s this week and work has been everything rush…..maybe next week.

Captain asked yesterday what you have for a station. I don’t think you saw it.

  3. Morning. 6:30 am and it’s 68.
    I could live here!
The only thing I can’t stand in southern cali is the fact everything is still dead at 6 am. Not a damn thing open. I forgot my aspirin so I went out at 5:30 am. Not a 7/11, no bodega, no coffee shop, no nothing. I finally found a 24 hour grocery store about 7 blocks from the hotel.
    LA is the same way.
San Francisco is more like an east coast city, but it’s still not the same. The weather here, I’ll take every day and twice on Sunday, but city living, forget it.
I did see a guy walking at 5:45. Jeans, and a medium weight fleece jacket. I had shorts t shirt and flip flops and was a little warm walking.

      1. Hmmm, that was a good one. I “think” I know where
Southern California is. I meant where in Southern Calif.?

          1. My Brother lived in San Diego for years before
returning to New England. My parents lived
in Chula Vista, just South of San Diego for several years before coming home.

            1. I could live here very easily. I’m not one who needs 4 seasons. A nice spring and summer 12 months out of the year would do me fine. Notice I said NICE spring. Not the New England east wind, 40 degree spring 🙂

            2. My brother in law is in San Francisco but his wife’s family is from Orange county and my niece is in college in San Diego. It is a lovely, lovely area – my favorite in CA.

    1. Blackstone – you gave me a chuckle. You live out his way and think it is odd for things to close at 6:00 in San Diego? I actually love the culture west of 495 as I have always been more of a small town/family type person. But less than an hour from metrowest and it is a different mindset.

      1. Actually everything was still boarded up at 6 am, not pm. Yes, I like life outside 495 too, but I just find it annnoying to be in the city and need something but not having any stores. Even at 12 noon, there wouldn’t be any either. I saw no bodega’s coffee shops, etc etc. Even out where we are, I can find a CVS, Dunkin’s, etc.

        1. Still smiling – 6 am and 6 pm – that describes this area. I did a quick search and found seven 24 hour coffee places in San diego and CVS doesn’t open till 8:00 here 😉

    1. Unfreaking believable!!! Thank you Matt. Truly spectacular.
I cam vividly remember skiing down many of those trails, at least the ones
that were open in the 60s and early 70s. 😀

    2. Beautiful – thank you, Matt. Never skied Killington – was a NH skier. Son, however, did a lot of skiing at Killington!

        1. I suspect with the way weather has changed since I skied that I would agree. I was never a fan of skiing on ice or crust. We all just had nature’s snow back in my olden days 😉

  4. JPDave…Just curious. After snowfalls can you check your rain gauge and simply multiply by 10 the melted precip and get a fairly accurate snow amount in your backyard rather than taking several yardstick measurements? I assume the actual weather observation stations don’t do it that way, but could that be a “lazy” way of snow measurement so to speak?

    1. Philip,

I do not think so. In fact, I was going to ask others with a rain gauge what
happens in Winter. Mine operates on Battery power, so I do not think that
it will melt the snow and report the liquid amount. I mean maybe it does
and I don’t even know it.

I guess I will have to inquire of their customer service.

      1. I used to pull mine in for winter when I had one in Framingham. I don’t see how the snow could land on the gauge and then melt with any accuracy. It is an interesting question/thought.

  5. Fall colors: Even here in central NH, absolutely beautiful, and probably still a little short of peak.

By contrast, when I was home in Wrentham for the weekend, the foliage was almost depressing. Obviously a lot of trees are yet to turn at all. Those that have turned are very dull and dry looking though, and I suspect most of the rest will be as well. As we’ve discussed here before, the fall colors are more a product of temperature than rainfall, but I think because this summer was so dry, it’s going to be a down year for the foliage in SNE.

    1. When my daughter and I drove into Cambridge yesterday, we were surprised the foliage seemed more developed and more colorful in that way. I am just starting to see a few more vivid colors out here but a lot of dull. I think that the gypsy moths in this area contributed, along with lack of rain, to the not as good year.

    2. Some of the trees that tried to turn early seemed dull to me as well with some leaves just turning brown. However, the color is really starting to explode this week in CT, especially the hilly terrain. May not end up being so bad after all.

    1. That is one of the MOST DISGUSTING announcements I have ever HEARD!

The manager is a dim witted MORON that can’t manage his way out of a wet
paper bag. He could F up a free lunch.

The Red Sox ownership is absolutely CLUELESS!!! Seriously, the do NOT know what they are doing! NOT EVEN CLOSE!

I am here to say right here and now, you can FUGGETABOUT it for next year
and any other year that IDIOT remains the manager. And you heard it here
      first. 😀

        1. Think of it this way JPD. If they don’t make the playoffs or they make another early exit, Farrell will most certainly be gone for 2018. Unless they go deep into the postseason there is no way he stays IMHO…not to worry.

  6. Winning the AL East to me saved and making the playoffs saved him from being fired in my opinion. Lets see if they have patience next year should this team stumble out of the gate.
As I said the other day I hear a lot of criticism about Girardi on sports talk in New York. From some of the comments I read here on Farrell and other comments I hear about him from Red Sox fans you would love to have Girardi manage your team. Correct me if I am wrong with that assumption.

  7. I was comparing him to Farrell.
Girardi gets slammed on sports talk in New York by a good amount of Yankees fans. Yes he over manages the game which to me is my one problem with him. The times that Yankees have not made the playoffs under Girardi which is four the team was mathematically in it until last week of the season. If he and Farrell were to be fired Girardi would have another job in a heart beat.

  8. Weather today was spectacularly beautiful; an October `10′ for the most part.

Sadly, I didn’t get to enjoy it much as I’m saddled with a stomach bug. A pre- Yom Kippur fast, which must mean I have a lot to atone for. 48 hours of fasting and there won’t be much left of Joshua. I’ll be too worn out to confess my many sins.

Red Sox gave us a surprising season. First in a good way by winning the division. I was way off in my prediction of 82-84 wins. Then by getting swept by an inferior Indians team. Unfathomable.

Red Sox have bigger problems than John Farrell next year. First, replacing Ortiz. He was the heart and soul of the lineup. Second, getting the same production out of Betts, Bradley, Pedroia, and Bogaerts. Very unlikely. Third, putting together a stable and effective bullpen. Fourth, getting Porcello to repeat his 2016 performance, Price to improve, Wright and others to exceed expectations. It’s going to be difficult for the Red Sox to contend next year, in spite of a solid core.

JJ, I’d take Girardi over Farrell in a heartbeat. He prepares his teams better than Farrell and he’s a much better in-game manager. While I blame the players for the playoff debacle, Farrell’s lackadaisical approach during the final week of the season may have cost them the first round, given that homefield advantage could have made a big difference.

    1. Agree with all above, Joshua.
That said… Sox will make changes off season, I predict. I loved the kids this year. I think they make one surprising trade to get a major power hitter to replace Ortiz and play LF.

I am three World Series ahead of my expected number. The Sox owe me nothing.

The Pats owed me nothing after the first Super Bowl win in 01. The greatest team effort in NFL history.

My life as a Boston sports fan is all gravy. Russell and Auerbach’s Cs plus Bird and Garnett, Orr’s Bs and the 2011 team. No complaints here. It is all clear blue sky 🙂

  9. Joshua I hope you feel better.
I am surprised the Red Sox got swept. I was thinking at this point it would be a two one Red Sox lead with Red Sox losing the Price game since Price does not pitch well in the postseason and I am not even a Red Sox fan and don’t understand signing a guy to a 7 yr 217 million dollar contract for a guy who can’t get it done in the postseason. Before series started I thought Red Sox in four with a couple starting pitchers injured for Cleveland and the Red Sox offense was much better than Cleveland.

    1. Still a lot of problems from flooding in the mid Atlantic states also. I’m surprised we are hearing little about it

        1. Sorry, I meant to say media is too caught up in HRC passing out coughing and trump saying the P word to care much about poor folks who are flooded. 🙁

            1. Sad is when a man asks a intelligent question at a debate and becomes a internet sensation.

Its sad when we as a country feel the need to go all out and support other countries that experience a natural disaster but can’t put the same effort in getting our homeless veterans the help they need.
