  1. TK, thank you. I sort of feel like we will be looking at highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s all winter for the rest of the month and into January. Wondering when the next real cold shot is coming.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK. What a pathetic looking Winter forecast with
Winter officially beginning tomorrow. I saw Eric’s 7 day forecast and after today,
every day in the 40s. Wouldn’t surprise me for one of those days to sneak into
    the lower 50s. PATHETIC!

Will it ever change this Winter season? Hope so. We shall see.

Looking at the models….YUCK! Equally pathetic! Useless. Hopeless.

Let’s bring on SPRING. Why not? It sure isn’t Winter.

OK, on the plus side, it saves on heating and it is QUIET weather for last minute
shopping and Holiday travel. So I’ll take a pass until New Year’s. No more complaining. After that I will become BITCH Central. 😀 😀

    1. Most folks like this weather old salty . I’m sure you will get the snow that you crave in time .

      1. Well certainly most folks wouldn’t be complaining. I agree with that. But, I can’t help it. There is just something deep inside of me that LOVES snow storms. Always have since I was a little kid. I even love driving in the snow. I once drove from Stowe, Vt to Waterville Valley, NH in a blinding blizzard. That was fun.

I used to climb up on the roof of our house sitting on the very top staring into the sky willing it to snow. It never worked, but I did it all of the time. I had access to a sub roof from my bedroom window and I could walk right up to the top.

Our roof was my personal observation deck. 😀

    2. I will like the temperatures to stay in the 20s and 30s for highs in winter, that way no heavy snow melt. Snow is an insulator so when we have those cold shots it protects the root systems of your roses and other plants that come up in the spring. Also it help ski areas keep the snowpack. Which by the way at the moment is decent for december.

  3. Now for any Weather Fantasy Players out there.

How about this for a SWEET set up? OF course it is the 6Z GFS run and it is for
hour 384 or 16 days out.

Sweet looking 500mb chart as well.

Now who among us believes for 1 second that this system is still there with the
12Z run? I for one KNOW it will be long gone. But, it was something to look at. 😀

  4. Thanks TK !

Less than 24 hrs to the winter solstice and the beginning of the 6 month journey back to 15+ hrs of daylight 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. No, we didn’t see anything. I did see on the skaket beach cam a feather dusting of snow on the sand, so they did see some on the outer Cape overnight.

    1. I’m all for that!
Plus, for those of us who loathe winter, 91 days until the spring equinox. Yea, I know we can be in the freezer with snow on the ground then, but warmer weather is closer than further away by then.

      1. I love Winter and the snow, however, by the time the end
of March rolls around, I am READY for SPRING. When we
have nice Spring weather, I adore Spring. However, when we
get the persistent facuckta EAST WIND, I can’t Stand it!!!!!

  5. Thanks, TK.

Just got in and it is really cold out. Even the sun that I have said has been hot lately couldn’t penetrate the cold. Yes, I know – it could be worse – near or around 0 degrees. Wonder if we’ll get that this winter? I would prefer 20’s as the lowest temp. but I do like snow in the winter. One or two nice big snowstorms/blizzard would be nice (not for driving, etc.). But as JP Dave says – come March – I am ready for Spring! That’s what I like about New England. You can never get bored with the weather! 🙂

    1. Funny, I just had to run an errand down the street from the office.
I elected to go out without a coat. It was fine. The sun was warm.
I wasn’t even colde. BEAUTIFUL day!!

      1. Then it must be me. 🙂 I’m not ashamed to say that I weigh only 91 lbs. (I need to put on more weight according to dr.). And I’m kind of small but I am not young – not ashamed to say I am 65, either. I move and walk fast. Please understand I’m not saying that people who aren’t skinny can take the cold. My younger sister weighs 165 lbs. and hates the cold. And your expression “facuckta” east wind brings back memories for me . . .

        1. Daughter and I just went to South Natick to pick up lasagna for Christmas dinner. I also commented that it is a raw/damp cold today. There is sun now that I am back in Sutton but there was fairly thick cloud cover in Natick.

          1. Sun is bright here in Sudbury – on our way out to Harvard to do some Christmas shopping. I love lasagna but turkey is hopefully going to be our Christmas dinner. Turkey is my comfort food!

            1. We used to do ham and turkey for Christmas. Then when kids were little, we got Chinese. It gave parents time to play with the kids. We usually prepared our big meal for Santa Lucia but we did not the past two years. The lasagna at Lola’s in Natick is wonderful (cheese not meat) so we opted for that for something good but easy.

  6. I do wonder if Christmas Day will start to trend a bit cooler and cloudier than currently projected.

If a sizeable, intense storm is traveling northward through the western Plains, that really should support a chilly high pressure in Southeast Canada nosing in from NW to SE near New England.

The cloudier turn could be as a result of low cloudiness coming in from the ocean on NE or ENE surface winds, with temps perhaps holding or falling into the 30s. Not cold, but perhaps not sunny and mid 40s either that have been understandably showing up on tv weathercasts 7 day outlooks.

        1. Just about

          By Rob Bradford
Clay Buchholz has been traded to the Phillies, with the Red Sox will be receiving minor-leaguer Josh Tobias, a second baseman who was drafted in the 10th round of the 2015 draft. Philadelphia will pay the entire $13.5 million owed the starter next season.

The 23-year-old Tobias played at both Single-A Clearwater and Lakewood, combining for a .291 batting average, .784 OPS and nine home runs.

  7. Some of the midday model guidance (ECMWF, CMC) is starting to lean towards the idea of rain showers for Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day looks dry, and while it won’t be cold, it looks safe to say we won’t see the sort of bathing suit weather we had last year. Mid-upper 40s would be my thoughts at this point.

    1. Actually, looking at the Euro, temperatures are marginal for SNOW.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see some snow in the air Christmas Eve. 😀
More likely a cold rain and more than showers, but we shall see.
IF that High in Eastern CA can exert itself “just” enough, “could” be snow.

  8. Just did 3 miles of walking in the Copley Square area. Coat unbuttoned and no
gloves. Ahhh beautiful. Really nice day. 😀

  9. Hi all!

Just returned from a visit to the heart doctor, which makes visits to all 3 major docs since August. Of course I had the health set-back which is slowly fixing itself now. The heart is operating under a bit of stress which is not a surprise, but overall the news is great. I can’t complain for having a recent blood test reveal a cholesterol level of 106 (200 being the point where it is too high), and today’s bp reading was 105 over 60. Can’t complain there. I hope you all are in good health to end 2016 and in the new year as well! And if not, I hope you can recover and be as well as possible. Certainly counting my blessings today.

Will be back in a while with some comments on the weather. Lots to catch up on here at the moment.

  10. TK that is great news. To battle your health issues and to also balance putting out a timely and quality driven Woods hill blog is truly amazing. It’s a credit to you. Thank you and stay well. Merry Christmas all.

  11. Thanks everyone! Appreciate the well wishes and very kind comments. 🙂

No big surprises in the weather department. In fact, the pattern is pretty much behaving as expected on the larger scale. Yes we did not end up with the possible surprise snowfall. The system that would have done it which I was eyeing for the December 20-23 time frame will indeed occur, but it will be a weak system passing north of here on Thursday. Things just didn’t line up correctly.

The overall pattern is not really going to change much through the opening days of January.

            1. I don’t like that definition. And I’m sure it is accurate. But I think of it as something like an incourigible romantic. Always believing in love. For Dave, my thought was always looking for the next great event and not being dissuaded. Sort of like always feeling the magic of Christmas Eve.

  12. TK – The very best update of all. So glad to hear the appt went well. However if ever you find yourself in need of a recommendation for a specialist in Boston of any variety please let me know as I have friends who are practicing at almost every one of the big hospitals and having battled health issues of my own I’ve found their counsel and contacts invaluable.
