Wednesday Forecast

3:56PM

Apologies for the very late post today.

DAYS 1-5 (JANUARY 18-22)
Elongated low pressure hangs around through tonight then departs Thursday, taking its lingering wet weather with it. Watch for a few icy patches as the temperature will hover near or slightly below freezing especially in areas north and west of Boston through the night. High pressure builds over the region by Friday and tries to hold into the weekend. This will shield the region from one approaching low pressure area that will only manage to send some clouds in Saturday, but the precipitation will never make it. It will also keep the region fair on Sunday, so not a bad weekend overall.
REMAINDER OF AFTERNOON / EVENING: Overcast. Areas of fog. Drizzle likely. Areas of light rain, possible rain/snow mix north of Boston. Temperatures steady 31-36 north and west of Boston, 37-42 Boston south. Wind light E to N.
OVERNIGHT: Cloudy. Patchy fog and drizzle. Chance of a rain/snow shower mainly northeastern MA and southern NH. Temperatures steady 31-36 northwest, 37-42 southeast. Wind light N to NW.
THURSDAY: Decreasing clouds / increasing sun. Highs 38-45. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 22-27 rural and suburban areas, 28-33 urban centers and immediate coast. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 38-45 Wind light variable.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Lows 22-30. Highs 40-48.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 18-26. Highs 38-45.

DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 23-27)
Large storm system approaches from southwest and brings rain later January through January 24, may start with sleet some areas. Improvement briefly January 25 before weaker system passes north of the region January 26 with rain showers, then fair and colder at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 28-FEBRUARY 1)
Watch the January 28-29 weekend for a potential storm that may have snow/mix. Fair and colder weather follows.

EURO and Canadian are in relative agreement in terms of the formation and path of the storm but euro is warmer. Canadian shows good snows in ski country. We shall see. EURO starts warm then cools.

Thursday of next week one its way to far out to think about and two we need to see what happens with Tuesday time period.

here are what the models show for thursday time frame
    GFS shows a darn cutter

  2. Thank you TK.

Eyeing your storm threat for near end of month. Looks interesting so far.
I look forward to watching evolve, “should” it evolve.

    1. I’ve had a “watcher” on this period for about a week. The models won’t see fully for a couple more days. And then from there adjustments will be made.

      1. Oh yes, to be sure, but the 12Z Euro has a nice representation
so far. Let’s see how it shapes up from here. Will be watching
        each run.

  3. what is the euro showing for Ice and snow for the Sunday night through Tuesday night time frame, I am interested in that event.

  4. Some light snow and sizzle up here in Groveland…temp is 31…drive on 95 was not fun…coating on everything

  5. Down to 34 here in JP. Will it change over? Awfully close, but I was just out and
it is still liquid here. Moderate Drizzle.

Btw, total from last night and today: 0.78 inch.

  6. At about 7 or shortly after went out to warm up car. Frozen precious was coming down as I could see it rolling down my windshield

And I could fell solid droplets hitting my face.

Since then we have driven out to Natick and oddly enough, it is all liquid here.

  7. For next storm, even though nws favors rain near the coast, they have not completely taken snow off of the table. Hmmm

  8. You know my wife is shopping when I am on the blog at this time.

    Btw, via acurite mobile app,

I see it is down to 33 at my house. I love that acurite mobile app. Awesome stuff.

  9. Ended up,going out to dinner. Dana Farber has a monthly grief counseling meeting. Three of us decided to extend it be going out to dinner after. It was really nice.

JPD nothing frozen in medway/hopkinton/to Sutton area either thankfully. Temp was awfully close, though. But I’m glad your frozen stuff was precious. 🙂 🙂 😉

    1. Excellent Vicki that you utilize that support group and it’s very good that you have found some friends in that group and you all can be helpful to one another through this difficult time . I’m all in for support groups for anything .

  10. Light covering of “snizzle” here on Zion in West Woburn. Side roads are rather slick as are walkways and stairs.

  11. 00z models are trending colder with the next system. Oh, I still think we’re going to get a lot of rain Monday night and Tuesday, but Sunday night into Monday might be quite messy again with snow and/or freezing rain across the interior. There’s not a lot of cold air around before the storm, but there might be just enough to create a mess again. Conditions might not be “optimal” in Foxborough Sunday evening.

    1. I hope that it holds off until Monday. I will be right in the elements in the top section of the stadium!

    2. I like the sound of that. Let’s keep it snow/sleet and keep the freezing rain away.
I know it is only the remotest chance of snow near the coast, but for the sake of
the ski industry, I do hope they get a snow dump up North.
