Sunday Forecast

8:11AM

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 21-25)
A disturbance moving through with a little wet weather to start the day leads in a fresh mass of colder air which will overtake the region as the day goes on with a gusty, chilly breeze even as the sun makes a re-appearance later. A more tranquil Monday then another gusty but slightly milder Tuesday, but not without a couple rain showers around as a warm front / cold front combo passes through the region courtesy a fast-moving but small low pressure area diving southeastward across the Great Lakes. This brings in another shot of colder air for midweek. Forecast details…
TODAY: Cloudy start with areas of rain into mid morning then a mix of sun and clouds. Highs 43-50. Wind NW increasing to 15-25 MPH and gusty.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 25-33. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty, gradually diminishing overnight.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 47-54. Wind W up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 35-42. Wind light SW.
TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. A few rain showers possible. Highs 53-60. Wind SW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Breezy. Lows in the 30s. Highs from the upper 40s to lower 50s.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 26-30)
Fair weather to start the period then the threat of unsettled weather with the current feeling that an initial storm will pass out to sea to the south and a second storm will bring a rain/wind threat late October 28 into October 29 with drier weather back to end the period. Not high confidence on timing and details yet.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 31-NOVEMBER 4)
Another storm system may move through as November arrives with dry weather to start and end this period. Temperatures near to below normal.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

Still early, but it “appears” that model consensus has the 2nd storm as an inside runner.

That figures, one OTS and the next inland. Hope that is not the Winter pattern.

            1. My prediction is WWWLW. The Sox will not have one any of the playoff games they played on Saturdays if that is correct.

  2. Thanks TK
0z EURO showing some wintry precipitation for the coastal storm threat for higher elevations of CT and MA.

  3. 2 things I did learn at yesterday’s SNE Weather Conference.

Capital Weather Gang (out of DC area) is a GOOD group of people. Check out their FB page. They are low/no hype and are big on EDUCATION.

The FV3-GFS which becomes the operational GFS when the current one is retired on or about January 24, will have some tweaks made to it to correct biases. They are moving into an area, starting with this upgrade, in which more modeling of not only medium range atmospheric conditions will be improved, but modeling of longer range weather, as well as modeling of ocean currents, sea ice, and other parameters.

    1. Due to severe wind and rain, the Head of the Charles Regatta was cancelled in…
    A) 1976
    B) 1986
    C) 1996
    D) 2006

    2. The temperature of the coldest World Series game on record was …

    A) 48 degrees
    B) 38 degrees
    C) 28 degrees
    D) 18 degrees

    Answers later today.

  5. With the ooz euro. most of the ensembles have moved to a situation in which it goes over us, or is to our west.
the operational shows a few inches in western Mass, northwest CT, Most of the snow accumulations on the map comes in NH and northern Maine on the 24, with the storm on the 28ish sending snow into the greens.

  6. C. In addition to the Head of the Charles Regatta game one of the World Series between the Braves and Yankees was cancelled in 1996. I had tickets to that World Series game
For the other one I believe it is C and it happened in 1997 when the Indians hosted the Marlins.

  7. Thanks TK !

I think the World Series will be the Sox toughest series.

That Bueller kid has electric stuff, Kershaw is Kershaw and they have a lineup that’s not far from the Sox. For whatever reason, they started 16-26 and still got 92 wins. And they added Manny Machado. Series going 6 or 7.

      1. All the more reason to be concerned with that storm threat. Those games would be on 10/30 and 10/31 respectively.

        1. I have noticed over the years that the Red Sox do not do well in rain delayed games. I don’t know why though.

    1. I haven’t a clue.

Does the real Chris Price show up?
Does the “new” David Price show up?
      Will Eovaldi maintain his form?

If all answers are yes, then it could be 4 or 5 games in a Sox win.
ALL no, then 4 or 5 games in a Dodgers win.
Any other combination is up in the air and could be 6 or 7 games either
      way.

In short I am NOT predicting. Should be a fun series to watch.
      Excellent series for ratings!

  8. Half of my World Series prediction from the beginning of the season. I had the Dodgers and Yankees as my World Series match up.

  9. For those who have Accu-Rite weather equipment, do you, and if yes, when do you bring your equipment in for the winter?

I am bring in the first wave of summer things in today.
    Thanks

    1. Oh wait….I have to bring it in? Anyone want to climb up on the swing set for me

And how do I get weather info. This is not good

      1. Vicki, I have just the Accu-Rite rain gauge. It does say in the instruction manual not to leave it out it freezing temperatures so it doesn’t crack. It is made out of molded plastic.

        1. Ahhh. Thank you but to be honest I was wondering if the unit I have can stay out so your question reminded me. Thank you!

  10. JP Dave look at the difference between the 12z GFS & FV3-GFS for the period October 26-30.

  11. Much too early to nail down any details for the storm potential next weekend. A lot of the uncertainty can be traced to “Willa” in the East Pacific, which will play a significant role in the evolution. She won’t make landfall in Mexico for another couple days, and I don’t think we’ll know much more until then.

    1. That is exactly correct. A good example lies just in the difference between the 2 GFS runs at 12z.

  12. Ya see if the weather is crappy all of next weekend you can blame me because I have tentative plans to attend Six Flags Saturday and Woburn’s Halloween Parade is Sunday. However that parade is rain or shine (wind included) and over all the years it’s been going on it’s been in all kinds of weather, from wind/rain to tropical downpours to sunny and 70s to blustery with snow showers. We’re toughies, as are all the bands and organizations that come from as far away as RI and central NH to participate!

      1. 🙂 3-4. We lost to North Andover, Burlington, Reading, and Lexington. We beat Arlington, Belmont, and Wakefield.

All that’s left are playoffs and then the traditional Thanksgiving match-up with Winchester, a home game this year.

        1. Rebuilding year for the Middleboro Sachems, too. No Gillette Stadium this year. Non-playoff schedule for the rest of the season. Turkey Day is at Carver this year.

            1. Sachems “threw” the game last year and played the freshmen rather than risk injuries to the senior, varsity starters for the Super Bowl. Carver won the game, 34-0. Time to get the trophy back!

    B) 38 degrees
    C) 28 degrees
    D) 18 degrees

The answer to #1 is C and #2 is B. I did not remember #1, but I believe #2 might have been in Cleveland but I do remember the year.

    1. I remember both actually.

And the date of the coldest was October 22 1997. There were occasional light snow showers through most of that game.

    2. HahaHahahahHa. I knew the first. It was the first time my daughter had left her pony in our care while she went away for the weekend. He needed to go out every day to loosen up. They could have held the regatta in his paddock

And I guessed B for 2 because everyome else had said C……I laughed out loud when I saw it……who knew

  14. I haven’t had any time to follow up, I did get to see the real Captain Fantastic (Elton John) at TD Garden a couple of weeks ago. It was one of the greatest times of my life. He played for nearly three hours, no warm-up band and played 24 songs, all hits.
Place was packed to the roof. I have seen Elton many times before. He sounds and plays better than ever.
I took this photo from my seat. Notice the keyboard reflected in his glasses. He had a three-story videoboard behind him and the band.

    1. Wow. And 11th anniversary of my father in laws angel day. He was a huge weather fan and would have enjoyed WHW

    1. Well no one said you can’t. We were aaking. But it makes sense that you can’t keep a rain gauge out.

  15. I was searching for something on YouTube and totally unrelated, this popped up. Some of you may remember this guy, who I nicknamed “Plastic Face”.

He would rehearse his weathercasts for up to an hour before going on the air, and also used a teleprompter so he wouldn’t miss any words.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lvQEqXn9WI

      1. I was not a fan at all. I got nothing out of his presentations and he used yellow for cold fronts. The standard was blue. That confused the viewers. I have never seen any other TV broadcaster use the wrong color for a front.

      1. Oh for Pete’s sakes. Hadi, ALWAYS nice to see you here but can you give me a heads up first please 🙂 🙂 🙂

  16. Orionid Meteor Shower peaks tonight. Only up to 20 per hour away from light pollution but still nice to check it out. 🙂

  17. Tough way to lose my Cowboys today with the football hitting the upright which had it gone through would have tied the game sending it to overtime. Cowboys just can’t win on the road this season.

  18. RE: AcuRite…leave it out all winter. it’s perfectly fine. It isn’t a weather station if you have to bring it in during the winter. FWIW, mine has been through 2 winters unscathed.

    RE: GFS and FV3=GFS
    Yup see the big difference

    RE:Pats
Not bad considering No gronk, then no sony michel and to top it off,
those brutal turnovers they overcame. many pundits had them losing that game.

And finally, 28.2 here this morning. Coldest yet this season.
