Thursday Forecast

7:32AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 30-JUNE 3)
The atmosphere will be a little “blocky” and we end up on the unsettled side, which is a little different than my original idea for this time frame. No, not days of rain, we have some nice days in here as well, but today, not much sun, wet for some areas tonight, and then we have to watch later Saturday onward for other episodes of wet weather as we cycle a series of troughs through the region while high pressure ridging is centered a little further to the west (and another trough west of that, forming a typical set-up we see in spring, and yes, it is still spring).
Forecast details…
TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 68-75, cooler some coastal areas. Wind light S.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms evening. Lows 55-62. Wind becoming W 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 71-78 except cooler any north or west facing shores. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 52-59. Wind light N.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 67-74, coolest coast. Wind light E to SE.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers, mainly late-night. Lows 53-60. Wind light SE to S.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers mainly very early and again late-day. Highs 62-69. Wind light variable.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Showers likely. Lows 55-62. Wind light variable.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with showers likely morning. Variably cloudy with possible showers afternoon. Highs 63-70. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 4-8)
Overall pattern keeps us vulnerable to passing disturbances in a trough of low pressure as things don’t change all that much. Temperatures may end up averaging a little below normal. Don’t expect 5 rainy days though. There will be dry weather in here as well. Will work on timing.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 9-13)
Going to go with pattern persistence for now. I have a feeling when we break out of this we won’t see it coming that far in advance.

  1. Thanks, TK. At least we’ll see the sun tomorrow and Saturday – looking forward to that.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

    re: Bruins
St. Louis really brought the play to Boston.
If it were not for Tuukka Rask, it would have been a blow out loss.

Brad Marchand absolutely shit his pants last night. Pathetic performance.

The B’s best get it together or they will not win this series.
I am not saying they will lose, but if they continue to play the way they did last night,
they surely will. Imho, they kept trying to be too “cute” by passing the puck all over the rink, instead of shooting the damn thing at the net. Just my thoughts
    for what they are worth.

    1. The bruins will be fine . St. Louis didn’t show up Monday night & anybody who knows the game knew they would bring there A game next one . I’m confident on it returning to Boston for game 5 a tied series . I think it’s going 7 & if we can escape injuries I’ll take Boston in a game 7 on home ice . Bigger picture is who escapes getting hurt as this is going to be an incredible physical old school type hockey coming up . Last one standing wins , just my opinion . The bruins were bound to loose one as an 8 game winning streak in the playoffs is pretty impressive.

    1. Look out the window today, yesterday, day before, all of April and most of May. There’s your summer forecast.

    2. Everything out there projects higher odds for warmer than normal conditions in New England.

  3. Thanks TK.

Day 3 of 3 of a remarkable stretch of severe weather here in the mid-Atlantic. It’s very rare to have a stretch like that here. Two tornadoes confirmed within our area at NWS Mount Holly from Tuesday. I helped survey one of them, in the Stanhope area of northern NJ. It was classified as an EF1 with 100mph winds. The tree damage was pretty incredible. At some point I’ll try to share some pictures. Another team surveyed an EF2 (120mph winds) in Berks County, PA.

Take a look at the storm reports for 5/28 and 5/29. These are entered by local WFOs and automatically populate this page when they exceed severe limits. Yesterday was particularly crazy. These numbers are subject to change as additional reports are received. For instance, should survey crews determine some of yesterday’s damage was tornadic, those reports will be re-entered as tornadoes, and will appear on these pages.

    1. I’m glad you are safe, WxW. Not to take away from the devastation for a moment, but surveying the area must be both fascinating and educational in your profession.

  4. Thank you TK !!
Thank you WxWatcher for the storm reports. If you look at all of those reports of severe storms some of which contained large tornadoes and read of the damage caused by them throughout the country, we are fortunate that there are not more deaths. This is a testament to the new technology and quick acting meteorologists whom are willing to interrupt programming in order to get these warnings out. Kudos to them, and shame on the public who feel inconvenienced for having their show interrupted in order to ensure the safety of all in imminent danger.

    1. Very nice comment, SC And we are truly fortunate there were not more deaths. I was absolutely dumbfounded by complaints about the television show being interrupted. But then I have yet to figure out how folks can watch the horrific devastation west of us and complain about anything here.

    2. yes we are lucky and even had some very nice sunny and warm days too but some people miss those while they were complaining about the weather pattern on social media. 😀

  5. The annual pembroke carnival starts up tonight 6-10 I would say that’s probably in jeopardy.

  6. Did some people miss the fact we had some really really nice days this month?

We go back into a cooler cloudy stretch and suddenly the summer is lost? News flash: summer isn’t here yet. 🙂

            1. Sorry about that I missed it above.

The rain should arrive there between 8 and 9.

  7. Thanks Vicki, I don’t soapbox very often, but I felt compelled to this time. 🙂

    1. It was a great soapbox. I only soapbox once or twice a day. Otherwise it grows spider webs 😉 😉 😉

  8. SSK a glance at the latest HRRR says that the rain may hold off a little longer. The carnival may just squeeze opening night in without much rain if anything at all.

It’s funny, people around here are SO negative that every time the Woburn carnival comes they basically count on 4 days of rain. Well guess what? It never rained on the carnival during open hours ONE SINGLE TIME in 2019 (May 16-19). Guess that theory was blown out of the water. 😉

I’m becoming less annoyed and more amused at how much good weather people are actually not realizing we’ve had even in what is fairly described as an overall gloomy spring (by standards of typical population, not the TK and Vicki type people who make the most out of every rain drop – we’re special). 😉

    1. Thanks Tk . Wankum has Sunday looking pretty decent just chance of scattered showers . We’ll chat in the AM

  9. HRRR is fairly low on precip tonight. I know the NWS has described potential flooding. I think if that does happen it will be very limited.
