Friday Forecast

7:14AM

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 4-8)
Low pressure departs today, and in comes drier air and reinforcing cooling on a gusty breeze. Then high pressure moves overhead tonight into Saturday, bringing some interior areas a frost tonight but providing a bright and beautiful fall day Saturday. Nice weather will continue Sunday, milder after a chilly start, and not quite as bright as clouds advance due to warming aloft and low pressure to the west. This system will arrive with mild, humid air and a good chance of rain showers Monday, but should be moving along enough that drier air will return to the region during Tuesday as another high pressure area builds into the Great Lakes.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Any early rain showers ending. Clouds linger longest NH Seacoast and eastern MA, otherwise trending sunnier with passing clouds. Highs 56-63. Wind N increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Clear. Patchy shallow fog over interior lower elevations and near ponds. Areas of frost except urban centers and immediate shore. Lows 32-39 except 40-47 urban centers and immediate shore. Wind N 10-20 MPH early, diminishing to under 10 MPH overnight.
SATURDAY: Sunny. Highs 57-64. Wind N up to 10 MPH becoming variable.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Clear. Patchy frost interior lower elevations. Lows 35-42 interior lower elevations, 43-50 elsewhere. Wind variable under 10 MPH becoming S.
SUNDAY: Sun filtered by high clouds then fading with thicker clouds late-day. Highs 62-69. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows 53-60. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Cloudy. Rain showers likely. Humid. Highs 65-72. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers evening. Areas of fog. Damp. Lows 55-62. Wind variable 5-15 MPH shifting to N.
TUESDAY: Clearing. Drying out. Highs 63-70. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 9-13)
Low pressure offshore and high pressure to the west may not move much for a few days with dry weather and a seasonably cool northerly air flow resulting here, then high pressure should expand over the region for milder weather later in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 14-18)
Some movement in features from west to east with a weakening low pressure trough bringing milder air and a rain shower risk October 14-15 followed by high pressure and drier weather returning October 16-18.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

48 at my house this morning. With sun out, not jacket today.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL this morning. I love it.

    Ho Hum….

I see nothing but typical October weather on the horizon. 🙂

FWIW, the ocean temp off the MA coast is running about 2.6 degrees below
average. To be expected with above average Jul, Aug and Sept temperatures.

Will be monitoring that closely as we transition into Winter down the road a bit.

      1. Why, INDEED I did!!!!)(@(#&*(!@&*(#&!*(@#&*(!&@

Hadn’t finish my coffee yet. My Bad. Sorry.

Yes, yes, yes!!!! ocean is running about 2.6 degrees
        ABOVE average.

            1. Geez, I can’t do anything right this morning. I should go home.

              Only 1.32 degrees ABOVE average.

              Getting there.

  2. As we head toward mid and late autumn, and early winter, I have some ideas that the pattern we saw at times this summer, when the ridge would back up and allow a NW flow here (keeping it far less humid than last summer was) may play a role in our weather pattern late autumn into winter. That pattern may want to repeat itself and be the overall driving force behind the weather here. If that is the case, some of the early ideas I have mentioned about the coming winter will indeed be what takes place. More to come…

    1. That’s a cold and dry pattern when that happens….

I would take that if worse comes to worse. If we don’t get much snow, at least the ski areas can make it.

        1. Being able to make snow is one of the main reasons the ski areas have bounced back. Also increased the price but IMO with it to those who enjoy the sport

  3. Heading up to NH shortly. Looks like a great day up there tomorrow. Sunny skies, cool, and crisp. Doesn’t look like the higher elevations picked up too much snow which I’m good with. I’ll post some pictures when I get a chance.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

    1. A few, but we have had the good fortune of some expiring naturally and the breeding slowing down due to the dry pattern. We need a solid freeze to completely wipe them out though.

Topsfield Fair opens today, and they (I’m sure along with many other fairs and festivals that are open at this time) have been paying close attention, treating, testing, and I know at least Topsfield is reminding its visitors to cover up and wear repellent. They have reported, however, that very few skeeters have been seen there recently, which is notable as when we are in a wetter pattern their grass parking area can be quite mushy and have standing water along the edges. I just drove by there recently and it looked very dry.

    2. The simple answer is no. Many are along foundations and in areas that frost doesn’t otherwise touch. I would bet my bottom dollar on this. I’m also waiting for my impatiens to die. And then a frost after that.

      1. Great picture. Similar scene as we were driving up 91 thru Springfield earlier. That’s one of the more spectacular sunsets I have seen in awhile.

  4. Jp Dave, I think you should take the time during this tranquil and boring pattern to get ready for the upcoming winter season by replacing the !@#$%^&*(+-={|},’: keys on your keyboard, I have a feeling your going to be using them ALOT this year!

    1. Replace them with what? They are very useful keys, are they not?
      就看看就看见会很尴尬股份分割 顶顶顶顶顶地对地导弹的点点滴滴

  5. while all of you are up in New England about to experience some chilly nights. I been working hard in classes and doing the start of my thesis stuff. I am also joining in some sea turtle research. I am going to be involved in sea turtle surveys and tagging. Starting next week. Its a good thing too as I have an exam on Monday and on Wednesday so it will be a nice break 🙂

    1. Awesome, Matt. Always nice to hear from you and catch up. I’m so pleased for you….surely well deserved

    1. The lows were in the middle to upper 40s early Friday. I hope your thermo didn’t try to tell you it was 36. 😉

    1. One of my favorite kinds of mornings. I’ve been up since 5:45 to watch the entire break of dawn / sunrise.
