High pressure weakly hangs on today with fair and mild weather. Low pressure south of the region on Tuesday will result in lots of clouds and maybe a little rain near the South Coast and Cape Cod. Cloudiness lingers Wednesday between that and a weak system approaching from the west, which may bring a few rain showers but otherwise continue the theme of more cloudiness during Thursday. Improvement is expected Friday as that system moves away and high pressure moves in.

Welcome to the cheap edition of my blog today – basically a copy of yesterday’s with yesterday’s forecast eliminated, Thursday’s forecast added, and a few tweaks made elsewhere. Perhaps it’s poor advertising to admit that, but I’m about the truth, and the weather pattern is just that quiet. 🙂

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 6-10)…
High pressure dominates through Monday with fair and mild weather. Low pressure to the south of the region is expected to be close enough for cloudiness and perhaps a little wet weather near the South Coast Tuesday but not close enough for widepsread wet weather. We’ll be in between systems Wednesday and then another disturbance may cause a few rain showers around on Thursday as it remains mild.

High pressure builds in today and sits over the region much of the weekend before sinking to the south and drifting away eventually during early next week. This will result in day weather and above normal temperatures for much of if not all of this 5-day period. Next Tuesday we’ll be watching possible low pressure approaching from the southwest, but it’s too far away to be sure if this will have an impact.

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 3-7)…
Low pressure pulls away through the Gulf of Maine into the Canadian Maritimes today while intensifying. The air flow between this deepening storm and approaching high pressure from the west will cause increasing wind. After any early showers exit Cape Cod, dry air will overtake the region, and though clouds may hang around for a while in the morning, sun will become dominant during the afternoon. Relatively cool air will move in and peak Friday as high pressure builds in, but this high will move overhead and then sink to the south during the weekend, resulting in fair weather with a warming trend. A weak disturbance will bring some clouds by Monday.
TODAY: Early morning areas of dense fog reducing visibility but fog dissipating by mid morning. Variably cloudy this morning including a chance of rain showers early morning across Cape Cod. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny this afternoon. Morning highs around 50 then cooling into the 40s. Wind W increasing to 15-25 MPH with gusts above 30 MPH.

A slow moving front and wave of low pressure will keep today overcast and wet before drier weather returns Thursday and lasts for the remainder of this period, along with yet another warm-up.

An unsettled period will begin Meteorological winter today and Wednesday as a disturbance approaches, its parent low tracking north of southern New England, but a new low forming on its warm front just to the south late today and moving out to sea while most of the wet weather comes from its slow-moving cold front which will spawn another low pressure wave on Wednesday that will send additional wet weather into the region. Drier weather returns Thursday though a few instability rain showers are possible as a trough passes. High pressure will bring fair weather Friday and Saturday.

This last day of November will be colder than any of the first several days of December, as we remain in an overall mild regime despite periods of colder weather at times. The only unsettled weather to speak of during this period will consist of a few very light snow showers off the ocean mainly over southeastern MA this morning and midday as ocean moisture in a light northeast to east wind carries lots of clouds over eastern MA and southeastern NH, less so in RI and interior areas of MA and southern NH, though they will see some cloudiness as well. The other unsettled period will be later Tuesday and Wednesday as a disturbance approaches, its parent low tracking north of southern New England, but a new low forming on its warm front just to the south late Tuesday and moving out to sea while most of the wet weather comes from its slow-moving cold front which will spawn another low pressure wave on Wednesday. Overall, this system will not produce very beneficial rain to help the long-term drought issue. Drier weather returns Thursday and continues Friday as the lows move away and high pressure builds in.

Small area of high pressure builds in today with fair and cool weather. Weak trough drops southward through the region tonight with a few clouds but turns the wind more onshore overnight into Monday, which will be a colder day with the potential for some ocean cloudiness dominating parts of the area. Cannot rule out some light precipitation if enough moisture is pulled in from the ocean, especially early Monday. Disturbance from the southwest will bring a chance of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday, then intensify as it moves away by Thursday with a shot of windy and chilly weather.

Disturbances in the southern jet stream stay well to the south and a fair and mild regime will be in place here during this period. May just have to watch for one disturbance with brief unsettled weather around December 7.

Pattern goes into transition with a couple of wet weather events and a continuation of above normal temperatures.

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 28-DECEMBER 2)…
A slower front means wetter weather this morning and a cloudy sky all day today. Drier air finally makes it in tonight and Sunday. A cool-down is underway now and will continue through Sunday, only to be reinforced for Monday after a secondary front passes through Sunday evening. A low pressure area will move through the region from southwest to northeast late Tuesday and Wednesday with unsettled weather, but precipitation will be rain instead of snow because of mild air returning to the region.

Happy Thanksgiving! This holiday will be on the mild side of average but may lack sun in many areas as low level moisture has increased in a southeast to south air flow behind offshore high pressure. But a fine day for football games and local travel! Even better weather coming up for Friday which will favor those decorating and shopping. A cold front will bring a rain shower risk in the early hours of Saturday which should end fairly quickly, though cloudiness may linger even after the front passes. High pressure will dominate with fair and cool weather Sunday-Monday (no longer looks like a disturbance will make it to the area Monday).

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 25-29)…
High pressure remains in control today providing dry and chilly weather, great for travel around the region, which many people will be doing today, be it heading into the area or out of it for Thanksgiving, or doing late minute food shopping, or just about anything else such as picking up the leaves you’ve been ignoring for weeks (my next door neighbors not included because they never pick them up). High pressure slips a little bit to the east and south by Thanksgiving Day and allows a southeasterly flow, which will bring in some Atlantic moisture and result in some cloudiness. As the wind switches more to the southwest by Friday, expect more sun again, but this time a much milder day, basically about as nice as it can be around here in late November, and on a day when many will be out shopping or putting up decorations (I’ll be doing the latter). This slice of mild air won’t last long as a cold front will drop through the region from northwest to southeast Friday night and early Saturday, possibly bringing brief rain showers but definitely bringing colder air for Saturday and Sunday.

There is a little uncertainty on integrity and timing of disturbances that may impact the region during this period. There is a shot of one bringing rain at some point November 30, and another one or 2 systems around December 2 and maybe December 4. Any of these would likely be rain events due to dominant mild air.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 5-9)…
A more active southern jet stream may send another system or two in the direction of New England with a couple more chances of storminess. Temperatures, though variable, will average mostly above normal.

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 24-28)…
No big changes in this update. High pressure will tear apart a weak disturbance trying to move into the region from the west today, bringing only some clouds at times, and this high maintain control to provide fair and chilly weather through Wednesday, very favorable for travel around the region heading toward Thanksgiving. The holiday itself on Thursday will be dry but one minor change will be to introduce some cloudiness to the forecast as the wind may be coming from the southeast, bringing in some low level moisture from the Atlantic. The degree of cloud cover is uncertain at this point. Either way, it appears we’ll get into a southwesterly flow by Friday, the big shopping day, with fair and mild weather. A cold front may bring passing rain showers early Saturday before fair, breezy, and colder weather overtakes the region behind a passing cold front.

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 23-27)…
Thanksgiving Week is here! And it appears we are in for some great weather with one minor interruption. Here’s how it should pan out. We start with 3 chilly and dry days as high pressure dominates. A very weak disturbance running into the high pressure area and falling apart may produce some clouds for part of Tuesday and perhaps a sprinkle of rain or a few flakes of snow. To say the pre-Thanksgiving travel weather will be excellent is almost an understatement. It’s not often we get through 3 days without at least some type of weather issue to impact travel one way or another, but this will be the case this year. And it doesn’t stop there. The great weather will also continue through the Thanksgiving holiday itself as well as the loved-by-some, loathed-by-others “Black Friday” shopping day. During those days we will see a warm-up as high pressure slides off to the south of New England.
TODAY: Any early clouds depart Cape Cod otherwise sunny. Highs 38-45. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.
