DAYS 1-5 (JANUARY 8-12)

Strong blocking continues, keeping it dry here while the storm track is forced to the south through at least the weekend. The next system may get closer by Tuesday but the evolution and track remain in question.

TODAY: Mostly sunny but some increasing high clouds later in the day. Highs 36-43. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 20-27. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Filtered sun with high clouds to start, then brighter sunshine. Highs 34-41. Wind variable to N 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 18-25. Wind N under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs 35-42. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 20-27. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 37-44. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 21-28. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Highs 35-42. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JANUARY 13-17)

We will continue in a blocking pattern with active and changeable weather. We’re vulnerable to unsettled weather through January 15 followed by a shot of Arctic air to end the period. as a result of it, starting with a storm threat int he January 12-13 period, depending on how close low pressure from the southwest gets to our area, followed by what looks like a weaker system passing by around January 15 and a shot of arctic air potentially arriving at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JANUARY 18-22)

Blocking should continue but may weaken. I continue moderately confident of a colder than normal period here but less confident about any storm threats.

  1. Thanks TK!

TK – I thought I finally understood the blocking process but now I’m confused again. Once the blocking weakens, is that when snow events will be able to move closer to us?

    1. It isn’t so much one way or another way. It has to do with the entire pattern – the strength of blocking, the location of the features, and what kind of transition into and out of such a pattern we see.

  2. Thanks TK
For all the Jeopardy! fans on the blog tonight will be Alex Trebek’s final Jeopardy! It will take some time to get used to not seeing Alex Trebek come out when Johnny Gilbert says here is the host of Jeopardy Alex Trebek and Johnny Gilbert saying another hosts name. So far Ken Jennings and Katie Couric will be two of what I am sure are many guest hosts until a permanent host is named.

    1. My bet is on Ken Jennings to eventually be named permanent host. Already, he will probably be the second former contestant to ever host a game show. The first was Vanna White who was a contestant on The Price Is Right (1980?). We will see. 🙂

      1. Actually now that I think about it, Ken would likely be the first to host the “same” show that he was a former contestant. Vanna was a contestant on a different show, obviously.

  3. Thank you TK.

12Z Euro looks PATHETIC!! And on it goes.
Let’s see IF there is a change with subsequent runs.

      1. It’s too early to know that. We can’t say “nothing for next weekend” based on model runs 8 to 10 days ahead of time. 🙂

  4. I have some significant outside stuff to take care of with my son this weekend, so you are not going to hear a single complaint from me about dry weather. Oh wait, you wouldn’t have heard a complaint from me about ANY kind of weather. What am I saying? 😉

  5. For what it’s worth, and for your amusement only (not an agreement with the run), the CFS 00z run has Boston nearly snowless through February 9. 😉
