Tuesday June 15 2021 Forecast (7:30AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 15-19)

Unsettled weather will continue today as additional showers form in the area as a result of humid air, an upper level low pressure trough, and a surface cold front moving slowly through the region. While most times it won’t be raining in any given location, any location may see passing showers and downpours, even some thunder remains a possibility too. Once the front gets by the region it will dry out this evening and tonight. High pressure builds in for Wednesday and Thursday but above there will still be a couple upper level disturbances which bring colder air in aloft and help initiate diurnal cloud development. This is expected both of those days, especially Thursday with the coldest pocket of air will be passing by above. Surface high pressure slides offshore Friday when it warms up nicely, and this continues into Saturday but may be interrupted by showers and thunderstorms as a cold front moves into the region from west to east…

TODAY: Mostly cloudy through mid afternoon with episodic showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Partly sunny late afternoon on but still with the possibility of additional passing showers and perhaps a thunderstorm. Highs 71-78. Dew point lower to middle 60s. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy ground fog forming. Lows 52-59. Dew point lower 50s. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 74-81 but may turn cooler in some coastal areas. Dew point upper 40s. Wind NW up to 10 MPH but possible coastal sea breezes.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 52-59. Dew point upper 40s. Wind NW to variable under 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 75-82, coolest coastal areas. Dew point lower 50s. Wind variable to NW up to 10 MPH but coastal sea breezes possible.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 55-62. Dew point lower 50s. Wind variable to S up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 80-87, cooler South Coast. Dew point upper 50s to lower 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. A few areas of ground fog interior lower elevations. Lows 60-67. Dew point lower 60s. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs 81-88. Dew point middle to upper 60s. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 20-24)

West-to-east “zonal” flow will be the weather pattern as we reach the summer solstice on June 20 and for the early days of summer 2021. However this flow does carry disturbances in it, and one such with a warm front / cold front combo with low pressure passing to the north will bring some unsettled weather at some point later June 21 into June 22 based on current timing, and another wet weather system may make a run at the region at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 25-29)

Overall west-to-east flow pattern is expected to continue but slowly weakening with a northward lifting of the jet stream. This is a warm pattern with limited opportunities for showers and thunderstorms.

  1. Stuff blew up north and west of Boston around 3am. Not much lightning, but I was in and out of downpours from Nashua to Waltham on my drive home.

    1. I slept through it ….argh….but maybe it wasn’t very close. I saw a lightning within 30 miles when I woke up

  2. Thank you, TK. Any early idea of how the 20th looks. Fathers day and a morning birthday brunch but has to be outside since some are not vaccinated

    1. AFAIK, Sunday the 20th looks good as said Harvey with his]
      fingers crossed. 🙂

Anyway, Hoping for decent weather as well as I plan on going fishing for the 1st time in 2 years. I can adjust to Saturday or even Friday if need be.

Not going to any bait store and certainly not Walmart for bait.
With the rain yesterday, I checked the yard for night crawlers
last night and there several out there. Sat late PM or evening, plan to water the grass and go pick up night crawlers around
      9 or 10PM.

I love using crawlers for bait, however, I have a full arsenal
of artificial baits if it becomes necessary.

      1. Thanks, JPD. Sounds as if you and I are in the same place as far as going into places….or not going in. I remember hunting for night crawlers with my younger brother and our dad. Very special memories.

Is Mrs OS pretty much over reaction to her second vaccine?

        1. Thanks Vicki, Mrs. OS is much improved but still
feeling some residual effects. Problem is the heat/humidity (even with the ACs we have), threw her for a loop, so it was difficult to tell which was which. She cannot tolerate
HHH weather at all. She never could, but now it is
          worse than ever.

        1. Funny thing, I do NOT eat fish. And I wouldn’t eat
fish out of the Charles River and that is my most
favorite place to fish. I catch and release and do my best
not to injure the fish. 🙂

          1. Ok, I understand. You fish truly just for the”sport” itself. 🙂

As for the Charles River, I have been under the impression that the river has greatly cleaned up over recent years. I recall way back when then-Gov. Weld took that “dive” to prove it.

            1. Oh it has, believe me!! Much improved. I still wouldn’t eat fish out of there. To much crap in there from long ago.

  3. Parts of the Cape getting a good drenching.

Let’s see if anything pops the next few hours.

Don’t have to worry about that here in Marshfield, where it’s -40F. 🙂

  4. Philip, the Charles River is MUCH cleaner than it was in, say, 1970. Not sure if I’d swim in it, at least not near where I live. But it is cleaner. The cyanobacteria I’ve been referring to as well as excessive algae growth are not human pollutants. They’re `natural’ pollutants, if you will. Good news is the river has turned less green in recent days. The bacteria levels have diminished, and are considerably lower than last summer.

  5. You may like the brief video below. Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the world’s greatest soccer players and a supremely fit person, is visibly annoyed that they put two bottles of Coca Cola in front of him at a press conference. He lifts a bottle of water (“agua”) and makes it clear that he will be drinking that instead. One thing for sure, Coca Cola will not be sponsoring Mr. Ronaldo, not that he needs a sponsor. https://twitter.com/KulikovUNIATF/status/1404778642505404417

  6. I mentioned this to Tk a couple of days ago, but there’s a new short-range model out there. It’s called the RRFS (Rapid Refresh Forecast System), and it is similar to the HRRR. It is not expected to go live until 2023, but experimental data is already flowing from it. Weathermodels.com has it in the lab section, but I don’t know of any other sites that have it yet.

  7. 0.28″ in a thunder-boomer in the last hour. Impressive lightning including a bolt that hit two streets over. Pretty quick storm.

Had a neat treat tonight watching my former student, Sean Newcomb, come in in relief against the Red Sox.

Newk struck out three Sox batters in a very nice outing.

Best of both worlds: A good pitching performance by Atlanta’s Sean Newcomb and the Red Sox are leading, 7-4, after five full!!!! 🙂

    Good night, y’all!

    1. Wow. We missed the storm but happy you didn’t. And that sure is a thrill to see a former student

      Sleep well
