The Week Ahead

10:36PM

Record high temperatures Sunday. More records may fall before the coming week is done.  A ridge of high pressure dominating the East Coast will promote mostly dry and warm weather for much of the coming week. But eastern New England will have a slight interruption today thanks to a back door cold front sliding across the region. This will introduce an onshore wind to many coastal areas which will keep temperatures down. Tuesday-Thursday, high pressure will build aloft and at the surface, and by Wednesday and Thursday temperatures more fitting of early summer will be with us. A frontal system should introduce slightly cooler air by Friday, and this step-down may continue over the weekend. It is too early to tell how chilly next weekend will get, or how substantial any unsettled weather will be, so regarding next weekend, my forecast will be general and of low confidence.

Important note: With the lack of precipitation, lots of sunshine, and lack of vegetation at this point, the fire danger will be quite high during the coming week.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, southern NH…

OVERNIGHT: Mostly clear but areas of ground fog. Low from the upper 30s inland valleys to near 50 at the coast. Wind W under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Clearing. High 65-70 coast before dropping back in the afternoon, 70-75 inland. Wind S up to 10 MPH but with coastal sea breezes developing.

THURSDAY: Sunny. Low 52. High 81.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Low 55. High 71.

SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Low 45. High 55.

  1. Congratulations Vicki !! Welcome back Hadi.

Mt. Washington at 41F this morning and Logan has a SW wind. Portland, ME has a north wind. Hope the coast can get into the 60s before the wind shift.

Truly an amazing last 6 months (180 days). Of those, maybe 20 days has New England’s air come from Canada, if that.

  2. Thanks TK. Pretty nice week overall.
What do you think of forecast for Orlando starting Friday for a week, looks nice from what I can tell.

      1. Longshot, my sister has a home in Ft. Meyers and I hear it’s a great area, loaded with lots of New England folks. Hope you have a chance to check out the Red Sox’ new field. Enjoy!

        1. I stay on the east side of Florida in ft Lauderdale, and me and wife visit ft Meyers for the day then go back 🙂

  3. All the towns or the towns around me have already did the street sweep cleaning along with patriot place did there spring parking lot sweep 2 weeks ago, so maybe they know something we don’t 🙂 when I was a kid I can remember the towns waiting till April or even may but the last 5 yrs they do it sooner 🙂

  4. Vicki, Many wonderful wishes to you, baby, Mom and family. There’s no doubt Kailey Victoria is just as beautiful as her name!!!

  5. Congratulations Vicki!

Welcome back Hadi! So how are we looking for the end of the month snow storm 🙂

  6. Wonderful news Vicki, congrats! 🙂

Hadi, hope the trip was nice. From many of us I also echo a thank you for bringing the warm-er weather back with u. Glad it’s not the triple digits though, not quite ready for that

  7. Thanks all!! I will say I have traveled to 50+ countries and this was the most amazing place. So genuine and authentic, the people have nothing but are so happy. We could learn a lot and it makes me appreciate everything I have.

    1. Hadi, I had an opportunity to do research in Trinidad and Tobago for part of a semester in college. I came home with all the same feelings u must have right now. Definately made me appreciate what I have.

    1. Thanks for the link Coastal. I would not rule out snow but I think it is unlikely. It looks more summer like than spring like
Wedneday and Thursday. A front looks to cross Thursday with some showers and maybe some rumbles of thunder. I don’t
see any severe storms with that frontal passage.

  8. Portland, Me is still 65F behind the back door front, with a NE Wind. Its so warm above, MT Washington is 46F and with all this strong sunshine, I dont know how far inland that marine influence is going to travel this afternoon.

  9. “by Wednesday and Thursday temperatures more fitting of early summer will be with us” YESSSS!!!! Yes, they will fit right in with me =) We will get along great XD

  10. Some blossoms on what I think are flowering dogwood during our walk. Also, looks like forsythia have buds on them. Another beautiful day today – feels warmer than yesterday. If there was more greenery and flowers it would definitely feel like a May day. But I guess that’s going to change once the back-door cold front moves in.

  11. Kiss the ski season goodbye…all but one reporting station in VT currently has temps in the 70’s with four more days of this to go. NWS forecast just raised the high to 86 here in Hartford on Thursday. Truly amazing for March 19!

    1. yes and I have a suspicion the projection may go a bit higher…..

today, the cool push along the coast is not as significant as projected….the ground continues to get drier and drier….it just seems Thursday is the day all the factors come together to produce a very warm, if not hot day.

  12. Question:
I have 150 linear feet of trim and baseboard that I need to paint after work. I was going to setup in back yard and leave it out over night to dry out. I am wondering if fog might develop tonight or will there be morning dew? I would like to enjoy the mild weather this afternoon but not at the expense of ruining the trim.

    1. coastal – not sure if this will help. The following came out early this morning and I don’t know whether it will change of if the back-door cold front could affect anything.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

PATCHY DENSE LATE NIGHT/EARLY MORNING FOG IS POSSIBLE THROUGH THURSDAY
MORNING. THE BEST CHANCE WILL BE ALONG THE SOUTH COAST MONDAY
      NIGHT.

IN ADDITION…CONTINUED DRY WEATHER MAY COMBINED WITH LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITIES AND GUSTY WINDS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THIS MAY
EVENTUALLY RESULT IN THE NEED FOR FIRE WEATHER HEADLINES THURSDAY
      AND ESPECIALLY FRIDAY.

      .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT…

SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.

      $$

Unless you live along the south coast, you may be ok. Probably I would hold off, just in case.

    2. I’d think a high chance of overnight dew or dampness as the temps drop under clear skies into the low to mid 40s….with light winds…….and the dew points should be in the upper 30s to the low 40s, so I definitely think that trim and baseboard will be damp in the morning.

    3. If you’re concerned and you have a garage, leave the car out and paint in the garage? It’s probably what I would do. Latex paint will dry quickly so you might not have a problem anyway.

      1. Thanks guys! It is low voc paint and it all dried in a hour. Its back in the house dry as a bone. 🙂

        1. By all means I am not telling you what to do, but I hope you used Benjamin Moore. Ben is a great product and Is the only paint I use. My parents were in the paint business. That is not saying that another paint is not good. It is expensive but worth it. I am getting ready for more painting here. I hate to paint.

          1. I do not like painting too, but its so much easier to paint the trim and baseboard before installing it. Even once its installed you still have to go back and fill the nail holes, caulk and touch up paint. It’s all worth it in the end.

  13. was 78 degrees today now back down to 74 nice week ahead and then mother nature is possibly going to play a cruel prank on us for april and the old man might wake up from vacation early or late what ever you want to call it.

  14. This is wild. Wind shifted to the NE in the Hingham area around 1pm. Temp actually has gone up tthen. It’s now 76!! Other coastal stations south of Boston are reporting temps in the mid 70s too.

  15. Temp has dropped to the low 60s in Marblehead, the warm air at the upper levels is definitely putting a leash on the potency of the sea breeze.

  16. Left boston at 3 and the temp had dropped some. To my surprise It is warmer here in pembroke than it was in Boston when I left work.

  17. Today in westborough it was forecast to be 74 but ended up being 81. And today was our first track practice and it is about 15 degrees hotter on the track…
