Tuesday April 25 2023 Forecast (7:17AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 25-29)

A slow-moving upper level low pressure area will be the main player in our weather the next few days with a varying amount of clouds and some shower chances at times. Late this week this feature will depart to the east, allowing a weak high pressure ridge to take its place with fair weather, but with high pressure at the surface off to the northeast, don’t expect a big warm up.

TODAY: Partly sunny. Scattered afternoon showers that can be mixed with graupel. Highs 51-58. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Chance of a shower early. Lows 42-49. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of a shower, mainly during the afternoon. Highs 52-59. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Slight chance of a shower early. Lows 38-45. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of a few showers and a touch of drizzle. Highs 50-57, coolest coast. Wind variable up to 10 MPH becoming E.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of a shower early. Lows 40-47. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 55-62. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 36-43. Wind NE under 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Sun followed by clouds. Highs 53-60. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 30 – MAY 4)

A new low pressure system approaches from the southwest with greater rain chances for April 30 and/or May 1. Upper level low pressure hangs around again after that with cool and sometimes unsettled conditions.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 5-9)

Despite hints of no major storms, upper level troughing should keep big warm-ups away during this time.

  1. 53 here. Better start that yesterday. 🙂

Our son was interviewed About the “T” and appeared on Ch 4 news at 11PM. 🙂

    1. Wow. Exciting for your son.

We dropped to 33 overnight. Up to 48 now.

Finished night agent. Really great show. Thanks again

      1. Thank you.

Finished the Diplomat. WOW! Is all I have to say.
Great show. Main stars are Kerri Russel and Rufus Sewell.
Outstanding job by both as well as the rest of the cast.
Very well done. They better have a second season as it
was left on a cliff hanger!!!

  2. My post above about the nice sunny start didn’t age well 🙂

But it wasn’t instability cumulus clouds here, it was low clouds that rolled in off the ocean.

    1. Amazing that in spite of climate change, Canada remains cold if not more so. Could it be that it’s the only location left on this planet that’s not affected as much?

      1. A warmer globe overall includes some areas that are more prone to cold.

But in this case it’s really just the weather pattern over the last several months.

    1. I believe that is where the general store is that still has the bench out front my dad stopped to nap on when he hitchhiked to ski country as a teen.

  3. JPD, can your son’s thoughts about the “T” be repeated here? I would have had some choice words myself. 😉

Could be an interesting next 3 – 7 days in California.

They are about to get very warm, under a ridge.

I just saw recently, the water equivalent snow cover in the Sierras is sitting at 200-250% of average.

This warmth probably has 70s at the lowest elevations with snow cover and 40s and 50s at the highest elevations with tons of snow.

Could be river flooding coming while its sunny and hot in the lower elevations.

  5. Generally sunny on the north shore. Don’t see a rain threat at the moment.

    I want graupel!!

  6. On my run I saw a Canada Goose in a nest next to the Charles. She was sitting on eggs, presumably. The expecting father was already on guard. He gave me that goose look of “don’t you dare go anywhere near my wife or our babies.”

Other birds were chatting away, especially the mockingbirds and robins.

The beauty of spring is the rebirth. However much I kind of like it when things are dormant, I do appreciate the renaissance every year. The life cycles of vegetation and animals are fascinating.

    1. Robins are among the loudest birds around, and they are the first singers in the morning, as early as 3:30 a.m. – sometimes earlier!

    2. I agree with your feelings Joshua. And, you provide the perfect segue to what I came here to write!

I was just looking out the window at the interesting cloud formations. I spotted a bald eagle souring nearby. What a magnificent site that is.

  7. There was a cloud formation just to my west a short time ago that would often be mistaken for a funnel, but it was merely scud, and not rotating. I’ll see about sending a photo of it soon – but right now my phone is taking a time lapse of the clouds. 🙂

  8. Layers of dark clouds here dove a while now seem to be breaking to light grey and filtered blue

  9. Made it to 57.4F here in Back Bay about three hours ago, but the mercury didn’t spend much time at that maximum, as it cooled down an hour ago to 55.1F and now it’s to 54.2F. I then walked over to Chinatown to get Ramen noodles my son likes. You can’t get them anywhere except in this Chinese supermarket on Washington Street. It felt a bit cooler there than here (it’s only 1 mile away).

    1. Joshua, could you please tell me what kind of ramen they are? There’s a Japanese grocery pretty near my house (plus I’m near Chinatown right pretty frequently). Thanks.

    1. They haven’t been posted here but this formation and several photos of it have gone viral. It’s one of the better formations of asperitas that you’ll ever see. Conditions were IDEAL for this up there that day. We had them down here too – but not nearly that dramatic, mainly because the White Mountains were missing. 😉

  10. Joshua, I believe that Canadian geese mate for life, so that couple you saw are in it “for the long haul” if you will. They will have many more broods during their time together. Unlike mallard ducks, in which the father “drake” may hang around a week or two at best. 🙂

I hope you continue to stop by that area near the Charles every now and then to see how the “family” is doing through the summer. I believe by fall, the “spring”chicks will be able to strike out on their own. It’s fun to keep track. Many years ago, I kept track on a goose family of seven in the Public Garden for months. It was a fun experience. 🙂

  11. Ginnie Newhart, wife of comedy legend Bob Newhart for six decades died at the age of 82.

Ginnie Newhart is credited with providing the idea for the 1990 “Newhart” finale that included a clever callback to her husband’s “The Bob Newhart Show”. The later show, which featured Newhart as a Vermont innkeeper, ended with him waking up in Chicago next to his on-screen wife (Suzanne Pleshette) from “The Bob Newhart Show”, revealing the second series to be a dream.

“The Bob Newhart Show” ran for six seasons from 1972 to 1978.

She is survived by husband Bob Newhart, 93, their four children and 10 grandchildren.

    1. So sad. Marvelously talented woman. And hands down the most clever series ending ever. I seriously doubt another will even come close.

Mac and I watched both Newhart shows. I thought he was going to die from a hit on the head from a golf ball. Clever really doesn’t do it justice.

      1. I very rarely watched “Newhart” but I did watch that finale seeing his “Bob Newhart” wife in bed next to him was quite a hoot to say the least. 😀

  12. Philip, you and I think and act alike. I also follow the various goose, swan, and other bird families I see. The juvenile swans, for example, stay with their parents for a long time. And the swan couples, like the Canada geese, stay together for life. What’s curious about the Canada geese is that they operate in flocks of 8 to 10 in summer, fall, and winter. Then at a certain point – this year by late February – you start seeing goose pairs/couples waddling around. I assume that the flocks of 8 to 10 that I see contain multiple couples and perhaps some family members as well: Grown-up kids, Uncle Ted and Aunt Edna, Cousins Bob and Mary.

  13. Vicki and Jean, the Ramen noodles I get at the Chinese supermarket (I believe it’s called C-Mart) are made by IndoMie, and the kind my son likes (I like them, too) are Mi Goreng (which is Indonesian) hot and spicy.
