Thursday February 27 2025 Forecast (7:13AM)

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 27 – MARCH 3)

As we close out February and start March, we’ll do so with an active weather pattern that brings frequent changes in the weather. I’m writing this blog this morning while in atrial fibrillation and waiting for my corrective meds to kick in so I’m going to be quick, then expand on this in comments later. One system moves through today, low pressure passing to north, brief snow/mix to the north otherwise rain at times. It clears out tonight – watch for black ice formation on surfaces that do not dry off. Friday’s a fair but windy and colder day. The next system races in, similar in track, on Saturday with some snow to the north, rain to the south at first, then generally a rain event as the warm front makes it through most of the region before the cold front comes charging along. Behind this system comes a shot of cold air with below normal temperatures, and a return to dry weather into early next week.

TODAY: Cloudy. Brief snow/mix northern MA / southern NH to rain, otherwise periods of rain tapering to showers. Highs 45-52. Wind variable up to 10 MPH then SW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.

TONIGHT: Breaking clouds. Watch for black ice formation on untreated surfaces. Lows 28-35. Wind SW 5-15 MPH with higher guts, shifting to NW.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. A slight chance of a passing brief rain or snow shower. Highs 37-44.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Clouding up. Pre-dawn snow/mix north, rain south. Lows 28-35. Wind N up to 10 MPH shifting to SE.

SATURDAY: Cloudy morning with mix to rain north, rain south, then scattered rain showers. Mostly cloudy afternoon with additional passing rain showers possible. Highs 40-47. Wind SE to SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 18-25. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 28-35. Wind NW 15-25 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 15-22. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 30-37. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 4-8)

Fair weather early period. Unsettled potential mid to late period. Temperatures below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 9-13)

Two additional storm systems can impact the region with precipitation. Temperatures near to below normal.

  1. Goid morning and thank you TK.

    Feel better….

37 this morning. Snow is almost gone. still a thin 50 -60% cover.
    Today could do it.

Tonorrow is the last day of February so Saturday we turn the page on the calendar to March. What will March bring?????

A fist full of cutters with up and down temperatures?????

We shall see. I am sure there will be teases of Spring only to return to reality.

AO: hints at the polar vortex retreating to the Arctic, a good amount of polar/arctic air north of the continental US

NAO: very progressive flow right now. Don’t think there’s any signs of very early spring blocking

PNA: active pattern, probably many disturbances coming into the west or Pacific NW that will eventually cross the country

Opportunities for sure for precip in the coming weeks. Like that NAO headed to neutral, not blocking, but also not systems super progressive across the Atlantic to our east …..

AO: This one makes lining everything up for another moderate snowfall event a little more complicated, perhaps.

  3. Hope you feel better, TK. I am an AFIB veteran and know it can be disconcerting. Deep sleep naps were my “goto” — but sometimes took 12-36 hours depending how locked in they were. Hope you hit sinus rhythm soon.

  4. North Conway NH webcam shows moderate to heavy snow falling, says its 28F. Looks like they have a couple inches of snow thus far.

  5. Thanks all.

Got my emergency meds in me right away. 2 hours later normal rhythm returned.

But then right after that, I got hit with a migraine.

Also recieved word that my brother (middle of 5) suffered a minor stroke last night. He is being treated now and the prognosis initially looks pretty good.

    1. Ugh sorry to hear all this. Hope you feel better soon and your brother has a speedy recovery. That’s at least some promising news on the prognosis.

    2. I am so so sorry to hear this.

Please, TK, take a break from whw and feel better quickly. Prayers for you, your brother, you mom and your entire family

  6. 2″ new at Killington, 31F and 100% open. We are planning on doing a day trip there Saturday. Hoping the next system Saturday remains mostly snow up there.

  7. Hi all!

Good news to report with my brother. Improvement going faster than anticipated. Initial scan looks good! Minor event, caught quickly. Taking steps to prevent additional issues.

Me: Recovered from a-fib nicely, but got hit with 2 migraine auras, one on each side of my brain. While rare to have back to back attacks, this is not the first time, and may have been triggered by changes in my BP because of taking the extra medication for the a-fib. No way to tell really.

Rest of day / evening will be spent doing easy things and recovering from that. 🙂

I’ll take a closer look at the weather later, because that helps me focus on other things, and moving forward. 🙂

  8. Sutton and the great snow of 1717. As an aside, Benjamin Marsh was an ancestor of a Belmont high school friend.

Three families were the first to settle in Sutton, namely those of Elisha Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson, and Benjamin Marsh, who is credited as a founder of the town and the First Baptist Church of Sutton. In 1717, The Great Snowcompletely buried structures their home cabins. According to accounts, a local Indigenous peoples of the Americas Indigenous person rescued the Johnson family by noticing smokefrom their chimney through the snow. Marsh served in several capacities for the town including as a selectman and moderator. He also served as elder and pastor from 1737 until his death in 1775

    1. and were not to be politucal?
      I am about explode!!!!
There are 2 egotistical mania s at the helm. God help us,all!!!!!

      1. I follow on FB a meteorologist who used to be active on whw. She said she believes some of the “probationary” folks were long time employees who had shifted to another department/position so were long term but fell under the umbrella of probationary.

As I recall the co president has had to rehire mistaken fires from two or maybe three other groups.

        1. Yes there many that went under that. Many go through steps 1 through 4 or 5 and then switch to another position at the next payscale, this even with some agencies making the probationary periods smaller ie instead of 12 or 9 months making it 6 months. Many thought they had until April before they started doing these purges. Many stayed in thier positions last year. Watch this closely. Any year of an election will have little to no transitions knowing probationary could mean the end of them due to politics, while during years with democrats in charge you have a major jump in changes. For me the uncertainty of times with republicans will make me hesitate to apply or even work with federal agencies in my future

  9. It gets better …..

Kotzebue, AK NWS is no longer going to launch balloons for weather data.

    Lovely.

Of course, for all 4 seasons, what happens in the northern jet stream has NO effect on what happens over America. None whatsoever ……

Wait until a severe weather spring event gets less lead time because the models are now missing the crucial northern stream impact.

    Or in summer, with hurricanes.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!

    1. My heart aches for the many who are now without anything, for their families, for those whose lives may be risked and for our country.

I never ever thought I’d see US here

      1. I was laid off once a long time ago at a point in time when I was the sole source of income for my wife, self and our 4 children. It took months to get a new job. It can be devastating for everyone! I feel badly for these people.

        1. I’m so sorry to hear that Longshot. It is devastating

I was too after over three decades when a new CEO was hired to set the company for sale. The classic conversation Mac who worked there overheard was the CEO saying we need a photographer. The response was we had one. You fired him.

Exactly what we are seeing now.

Good part is I started my own business and was far better for it. But it took us a while to bounce back too

        2. I have been laid off twice in the last two years and it’s brutal. Crushed my self-esteem, income etc..

          1. My only lay off was from my career job. That was … fun … Cooperate destroyed a great company.

            1. Corporate has a knack for thar doesn’t it. I’m so sorry. But they sadly lost someone who is amazingly talented

    2. If this keeps going on, it won’t be long before it’s tested. There are some solid signs of a very strong severe weather season for the South. This is the type of large scale pattern that triggers it.

Lower Mississippi Valley in particular may be in deep trouble in about 10 days to 2 weeks.

      1. Well they voted for it. Im at the point of let them find out and suffer the consequences of thier actions. Im done being sympthetic to these idiots

        1. Ya but it isn’t only folks who voted for this. It is our country that is now at risk of survival

      1. Hahahahah. You both have me laughing and I needed that. I really should start watching.

Wonder how many times I’ve said that

    1. I am much better and he is also doing pretty well. Keeping him overnight and re-evaluating tomorrow.
