Tuesday April 22 2025 Forecast (7:27AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 22-26)

Today’s weather will feature improvement and a nice warm up as we rid ourselves of clouds (and very early morning showers in far eastern areas). A cold front comes through with little fanfare other than a wind shift and lowering dew points, but this allows for the warming as the air moves down off the hills and mountains and dries out, which results in warming. High pressure builds toward the region Wednesday with mild weather and a land breeze, but the high pressure area moves over the region Wednesday night and Thursday with lighter winds. This allows for a coastal sea breeze and a larger temperature contrast between the coast and inland areas on Thursday. Additionally, some clouds move in Thursday ahead of a warm front. At worst, this front can bring some brief light rainfall to northern MA and southern NH late Thursday or Thursday night, before we find ourselves in the warm sector Friday with fair weather and above normal temperatures. However, our next trough and low pressure system and its accompanying cold front will move toward the region Friday night and Saturday with some unsettled weather. What’s left to figure out is timing and how long the rain threat will last, but for now plan on an unsettled start to the final weekend of April.

TODAY: Cloudy start with areas of fog as any lingering rain showers exit. Clouds give way to sun mid morning on from west to east, but still some passing clouds and only the slightest risk of a quick-hitting rain shower. Highs 55-62 Cape Cod, 63-70 other areas south of I-90, 70-77 I-90 northward. Wind variable to S up to 10 MPH, becoming SW to W 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy early, then clear. Lows 46-53. Wind W to NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 65-72, except 58-65 Cape Ann and outer Cape Cod. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind calm.

THURSDAY: Sun gives way to clouds. Highs 56-63 coast, 63-70 inland. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with brief light rain possible evening. Partly cloudy overnight. Lows 42-49. Wind SE under 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 58-65 South Coast, 66-73 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers arrive. Patchy fog overnight. Lows 50-57. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with rain showers likely, but may be most numerous early with a drying trend after. Highs 58-65. Wind SW to variable 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 27 – MAY 1)

Dry weather April 27-29 with a cooler start then a warming trend. Frontal system may bring rain showers April 30 and/or May 1.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 2-6)

Trends indicate some blocking evolving with increase unsettled weather chances and variable temperatures with an overall cooling trend.

  1. South Central,
Please see my response post towards the end of previous blog.

    thank you

  2. Briefly touched 58 yesterday as that was all we could muster fighting that East wind. Ah Spring in Eastern SNE.

  3. Thank you TK!
Thanks for the response JP Dave, interesting. I too agree on the blue gill, and also the pumpkin – kiver and also yellow pearch, although my kids loved them because they were easy to catch and fun to reel in as they would put up a decent fight for a young kid. I would spend most of the time taking them off the hook because those types as you know like to bury the hook. Good luck this year, I hope you catch a Lunker.

    1. Thanks South Central.
I actually don’t mind the yellow perch, especially the larger ones.
I like the white perch as well. I don’t like those bugger sunfishes as you mentioned. πŸ™‚

Good luck to you as well. Lunkers in this part of the state are pretty tough to come by. My personal best bass was
21 inches, 5 1/4 pounds caught in the Charles at Natick. πŸ™‚
Down South, that is a nothing fish, up these ways, not too shabby. πŸ™‚

      Cheers

  4. Only up to 54 here. πŸ™‚

    Ocean temperature (Boston Buoy): 43.7

Quite a way to go yet to avoid those nasty sea breezes!!!!

  5. Thanks, TK!

    0.13″ in light, overnight showers.

Celebrating Earth Day with the brilliant “(Nothing But) Flowers”) by the brilliant David Byrne and Talking Heads:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2twY8YQYDBE

    Once there were parking lots
    Now, it’s a peaceful oasis
You got it, you got it
    This was a Pizza Hut
Now, it’s all covered with daisies
You got it, you got it

    1. I cannot recall the year, but believe it may have been the first earth day when McD gave tiny trees with kids meals. We were driving to Charleston and took three to Mac’s parents.

  6. Gonna need a sharp wind shift soon if I’m going to get my 70 in Boston. There’s less west wind than I thought at this point. We are 70 here, barely… Need more westerly wind.

    1. NOT going to happen. We were up to 67-68 and the Fakakta East wind rolled in and dropped the temp down to 60. I was just out and believe me the chill can be felt!!!!

I don’t recall seeing mention of an EAST WIND with the traditional cooler at the coast.

I am hereby issuing an executive order BANNING East winds from September through June. Only allowed during July and August when it would be welcomed.

  7. 78 high up from 46 overnight low. Gentle breeze. I finally dug out my short sleeve tees

      1. I love spring. πŸ™‚ The blooms are absolutely stunning around here. There’s a pink magnolia tree right outside my window in my neighbor’s yard that I can look at while I type on the blog.

        1. Yes, I know. That’s why I was letting you have it all to yourself. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

            1. Vegetation in general takes forever to bloom and still a number of trees in β€œFebruary” mode.

  8. Drove to Quincy from Taunton for a medical appointment this afternoon. We left with the AC on in the car and definitely did not need it in Quincy.

77 was the high here in Taunton.

TK: Do you know of this song? If not, maybe you can add it to your Earth Day playlist.

As the years pass, I have come to love and appreciate Yusuf/Cat Stevens more and more.

    1. This song was also on the playlist I made. It was a short list – just 1 hour. But that was the 2nd track on it.

This was the list, made very quickly this morning…

      Mother Earth – Neil Young
Where Do The Children Play? – Cat Stevens
      The 3 R’s – Jack Johnson
      The Trees – Rush
(Nothing But) Flowers – Talking Heads
      Paradise – John Prine
The Landscape Is Changing – Depeche Mode
Down To Earth – Peter Gabriel
      Gaya’s Eyes – Todd Rundgren
      Nature’s Way – Spirit
Men In Helicopters – Adrian Belew
Mother Nature’s Son – John Denver
Joy To The World – Three Dog Night
      One World – John Martyn
      Dirty Water – The Standells

The last track was added as kind of a joke, and as a tribute to Boston’s big weekend just gone by. πŸ™‚

        1. I’ll add that to the expanded version. This was just the start of what I want to be a much larger collection. πŸ™‚

    1. I was just outside admiring the sunset. And the peepers have the volume cranked all the way to 11!

      1. A β€œsmoky” sunset. It was the first word that came to my mind when I saw it.

  9. The 3-time Jeopardy champ Liam Starnes is the spitting image of Sheldon Cooper on the old β€œBig Bang Theory”. πŸ˜‰

    1. Ah ha. I’ve been saying that also. Some didn’t see it. He even sounds like Sheldon. I love him.
