DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 21-25)
An area of high pressure provides dry weather for Patriots Day today. Rain-free conditions will grace the only morning first pitch of a MLB game this season at Fenway Park and the running of the Boston Marathon along the route from Hopkinton to Boston. While our winds will be much lighter than yesterday, the direction of that wind will play a role in temperatures along the route. As we warm from the 40s toward 60 diurnally, the temperature rise will be thwarted by a sea breeze along the coast, including into the marathon finish area. The temperature rise will stop somewhere in the 50s in the sea breeze areas while it reaches or breaks 60 over inland areas, but by then most of (if not all of) the runners will have left that area. Some rain showers associated with a warm front moving into the region will hold off until this evening, so we get through all the daytime activities rain-free. Tuesday, will feature mild weather and there is only the chance of a rain shower first thing in the morning and again sometime later in the day as a cold front crosses the region. High pressure builds in with fair, seasonable weather at midweek. While a northwesterly air flow dominates on Wednesday, the high pressure area over the region Thursday will allow a sea breeze resulting in a larger temperature contrast across the region. High pressure moves offshore Friday. A warm front scoots through early in the day when some thicker clouds may be around, but for the most part we’ll have a sun/cloud mix and above normal temperature on that day.
TODAY: High clouds filter the sun much of the day, then thicken up later. Highs 55-62, coolest coast. Wind NW up to 10 MPH becoming variable with developing sea breezes.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A brief period of light rain possible evening. Chance of rain showers overnight. Lows 48-55. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain showers eastern areas early. Otherwise, partly sunny. Chance of a rain shower late in the day. Highs 57-64 South Coast to MA South Shore, 65-72 elsewhere. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 46-53. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 62-69. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind calm.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 56-63 coast, 63-70 inland. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 42-49. Wind SE under 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: Cloudy early, then a sun/cloud mix. Highs 58-65 South Coast, 66-73 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 26-30)
A cold front moves through with a period of rain showers at some point April 26, otherwise the balance of the final weekend of April looks dry and cooler. The last few days of April look mainly fair with a milder trend.
DAYS 11-15 (MAY 1-5)
Trends indicate some blocking evolving with increase unsettled weather chances and variable temperatures with an overall cooling trend.

If you live here (and not under a rock), you know of the temperature variability we have in the spring.
Just the last week … 30s with snowflakes April 12. 80+ degrees for many areas exactly 7 days later on April 19.
How about some temperature ranges for the Boston Marathon. Warmest start (10 a.m. time) of the 21st century, 83 degrees in 2004. Coldest start, 42 degrees in 2018. Today will be on the cool side at start time – probably upper 40s / about 50 – but tolerable with little wind.
Thanks, TK.
Thank you, TK!
Such a tremendous loss. Rest in peace, Pope Francis.

Reposting something I wrote just before TK put up the Monday forecast.
Thank you, TK.
Sad to hear of the passing of Pope Francis, a compassionate, tolerant person who I, as a non-Catholic (and non-believer for the most part) respected enormously.
On a different note, the weather here has been fine. Periodic very light showers – one during my morning jog earlier today – but also some sunshine with temps in the upper 50s to low 60s during the day and 40s at night.
And in other odds and ends:
TK, I strolled down the Woburn Walk in Bloomsbury (part of London) the other day.
Vicki, a pitcher for the White Sox (Burke), is from Sutton, Massachusetts. That’s quite something. Making it to the major league of any sport is incredible, in my view.
If I ever go over there, I’ll visit that Woburn Walk…
Thank you, Joshua. I am surprised I have not seen this on the sutton fb page. My guess it was there and I missed it. I’ll keep an eye for him.
Thanks TK.

As someone who is not all that religious but coming from a catholic family, Pope Francis represented what was good of religion. Welcoming, Kind, cared for everyone and everything on the earth, and believed Science and religion could work together to help make the world a better place.. He will be missed
I have a strong faith but am not Catholic. To me Pope Francis spanned all religions and all people. I don’t believe it is a coincidence that he waited until after Easter to go home. His blessing yesterday encompassed his papacy and his life
“On this day, I would like all of us to hope anew and to revive our trust in others, including those who are different than ourselves, or who come from distant lands, bringing unfamiliar customs, ways of life and ideas! For all of us are children of God!”
As you know, I don’t speak often about this kind of thing, but I’m very similar to you, and also share your opinion.
Thanks TK
Good morning and thank you TK.
Beautiful morning. Was out fishing. Didn’t see much wild life, just a turkey and a robin.
fishing was great, no trout, but 7 large mouth bass, 5 good sized, 14-16 inches while 2 were 10inchish.
awesome day. And beautiful morning. A friend out this way caught her first salmon in the wachusett area a few days ago. I’m not sure if you ever head that way but can find more info if you’d like
Thank you, but I don’t venture that far anymore. 🙂
Just getting too damn old!!
I absolutely understand. I do the same. For someone who used to race cars, I no longer drive on highways or longer distances as a whole but especially if I am not familiar with the route
Did you tell me before that you raced at Star Speedway in Epping?
My first time going there was to an Enduro around 1989-1990. Those were the races I went to pretty much, but a lot of times we saw some of the other divisions on the race card. One of the prominent women included Heidi Osborne, who was a frequent winner and always a contender if she was fortunate enough to make it to the end, which she often was.
I remember her daughter racing some years after that, and I believe now we’re watching her grandchild racing. 🙂
Yep. Got my 100 mph patch at Epping. About 10 of us used to drive up together in our cars. I recognize Heidi’s name. But didn’t know her daughter and now granddaughter followed in her footsteps. How special.
This was late 60s/early 70s
I’d have loved to see that, but I was somewhere between 0 and 5 years old. 🙂
Haha.
First pitch at Fenway this morning was at 11:11 a.m.
Last out of the game recorded at 1:26 p.m.
Length of game: 2 hours, 15 minutes.
Sox win, 4-2!
SAK attended this game, as he has every year since 1987 (except 4 years there was no game to attend on Patriots Day). This win ends a 3 game loosing streak. It’s a long season, but let’s hope they can put together a string of victories!
It was 53 degrees at 1st pitch. The high today at Fenway was 57. It was indeed a glorious day, except for the clueless morons sitting behind me, but I always seem to have that happen at sporting events. I find it funny that the people that are the dumbest love to share their “knowledge” and loudly.
Today’s best example. Kristian Campbell comes to the plate in the 2nd inning. Campbell was the Minor League Player of the Year across all of baseball last year, was hyped up all winter as one of the Sox “Big 3” prospects, made the team in spring training, and has been lights out – an early contender for Rookie of the Year. So, when he comes to the plate, the guy behind me says “I have never heard of this guy. They must have traded for him over the weekend and this is probably his 1st game in Boston”
Mr Hand said it best….. https://youtu.be/S6wIp0ekpCQ?si=BwKrjb0jeY_-GBZF
They did not come off a 3 game losing streak. They won on Friday and Saturday. They lost on Sunday when they shouldn’t have. 3 out of 4 in the series.
49 @ Logan with E breeze. #SpringTimeInBoston
56 here about 6 miles away. 🙂
As my colleague says, “Logan is a PIT!”
hmmmm
Hey JP Dave, I too like to wet a line and so does my youngest son, and when time permits we like to try our luck at area ponds. I’m just curious do you have a favorite type of fish to catch? Just getting out there and taking in nature is fun enough, and enjoy angling for all types of fish, but I find mid summer evening bass fishing is my favorite.
For someone who fished most of her life, That’s a new term for me. What is wet line?
I think he said “wet a line” which literally means putting a fishing line in the water. I think the phrase “wet line” is used by firefighters for something that I cannot remember. Probably used elsewhere too.
Ahhhh I see that. Interesting and thank you. So basically it means to fish? I was wondering if it was the difference between fly fishing which keeps the line atop the water and what I think of as hook line and sinker
Hi South,
I grew up fishing the Charles River, so I am partial to river fishing. Have fished ponds andclakes, but rivers are my comfort zone.
As for favorite species, it is probably large mouth bass, but I am open to all comers. Do not particularly like blue gill.
In Spring I have a few favorite spots where I can catch trout and large mouth side by side. In Summer, it is large mouth and occasional chain pickerel.
Although I used to use artificials for bass, now I exclusively use night crawlers rigged Texas style. I never know what’s going to be on the end of the line, but I am targetting large mouth. Although there are occ asional small mouth in the Charles, I have never caught one there. Have in other places.
Have fished the Charles in
Bellingham, Franklin, Medway, Norfolk, Millis, Medfield, Natick, Dover, Needham, Dedham, Boston, Newton, Weston, and Cambridge.
Enjoy and thank you for asking.
Hi Vicki the term wet a line is a slang term that can be used for fishing. It simply means to cast out a dry fishing line into the water on your first cast or first cast of the day.
Thank you. It’s a great term. I am more than surprised I’ve never heard it before. It is definitely something my dad would have used as he very often used phrases like that.
New post…
