Sunday April 20 2025 Forecast (8:16AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 20-24)

Happy Easter to those celebrating today! If you have outside plans, while it will be a dry and mild day, there will be a gusty wind. The sun will share the sky with passing fair-weather clouds. These may become abundant for an hour or two this afternoon at some point, depending upon your location. But overall, if you can handle the breezy / windy conditions, it will be a pretty nice April day. One negative, fire danger will be elevated. High pressure builds over the region tonight into Monday, easing the wind. This will make a sea breeze likely on Monday. While the region is cooler overall, the coast will be coolest. Expect dry weather through the day – including for the Red Sox early start and the Boston Marathon. A warm front will bring the chance of a little rainfall Monday evening, and low pressure passing to our north will drag a cold front across the region Tuesday, with a few rain showers in the region. Fair, slightly cooler weather is expected for midweek, as high pressure builds in.

TODAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 58-65. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 38-45. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny through midday, then some increase in cloudiness. Highs 55-62, coolest coast. Wind NW up to 10 MPH becoming variable with coastal sea breezes developing.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A brief period of light rain possible evening. Chance of rain showers toward dawn. Lows 48-55. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain showers until midday. Partly to mostly sunny thereafter. Highs 65-72. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to NW, a few higher gusts possible.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 46-53. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 62-69. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 43-50. Wind calm.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 62-69, except cooler along the coast. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 25-29)

Progressive spring pattern. Warm front / cold front combo with low pressure passing to north can bring brief rain shower episodes April 25-26. Fair weather follows as high pressure builds in. Temperatures variable, coolest mid period, warmer end of period.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 30 – MAY 4)

Trend toward more blocking in the pattern. Initially a progressive system brings a shower threat early period. Unsettled weather may return end of period.

  1. Thanks TK
    Happy Easter everyone!
On the local NBC station here in CT they mentioned Easter 1970 was the snowiest on record. Does anyone here remember Easter 1970? They showed Easter 1976 was the hottest on record.

    1. Easter 1970, yup snowy. I believe it was a late March Easter. I was out driving in it. It was not a block buster, but it was a decent snowfall.
can’t remember the exact accumulation. somerhing like 9 inches or so??????

Perhaps TK or SAK can provide?

      1. found 67 total qpf, so depending on tTio looks like 6-10 inches. cutious to know exact.

    2. I remember. We had dinner at a restaurant called Fantasia in Fresh Pond. No or little snow when we went in and a surprise with a fair amount of snow when we came out.

      1. I do, too. We had to cut dinner short as the Easter company had to leave early because the conditions of the roads were deteriorating. It was March 29, I believe.

    1. I’ll be doing my weekly walk around Horn Pond in Woburn at some point today, but it may end up being a late-afternoon after-dinner walk.

A typical Sunday would find me doing that walk either…
      1) Between sunrise & shopping (before 9AM).
      2) Sometime after shopping (after 10AM).

If it’s an atypical Sunday, like today, the walk is inserted wherever it works best on that day.

Today, being Easter, I did mom’s shopping yesterday since her favorite store is not open today. I typically grab her a brunch on a Sunday (and at least coffee for myself, sometimes brunch if it fits my agenda), but today that’s also different, a light breakfast for her now, and an Easter dinner at 2PM. I can see my walk is likely to take place later in the day, because I am around 11AM taking a ride up to the Minuteman Bikeway in Lexington to briefly greet and cheer on a friend of mine who annually participates in Tough Ruck. It’s a 26.6 mile walk (with minimum 10 pounds in a backpack) to honor and remember the fallen. My friend does this in memory of several specific people who have served, including my father (a picture and a ribbon pinned to her ruck sack). It always takes place the weekend of Patriots Day, but not ON Patriots Day, since that’s Marathon Day. This year, with the 250th activities in Lexington and Concord, they opted to have it on Sunday, which only coincidentally is the day of Easter for those celebrating it.

Anyway, that’s the long winded reason why my pond walk may be at the end of the day. πŸ™‚

      1. Please give your mom an Easter hug. I had not heard of tough ruck. What a touching tradition.

  2. Thanks, TK!

58 now and a very delightful 76 yesterday!

To all who are celebrating today, Happy Easter!

And a Happy Spring to the WHW family in this season of renewal of life! πŸ™‚

  3. Good morning and thank TK.

    Hapy Easter

down to 57, back up to 59 here after making 83 testerday.

  4. Was Massachusetts caught off guard with that Easter 1970 snowstorm like Rhode Island was?

    1. I am not sure if all were. I do remember being very surprised at the amount when we left the restaurant

  5. March 29, 1970

    7.3″ in Boston
    7.0″ at Blue Hill
    6.4″ at Jamaica Plain
    9.0″ at Reading
    7.8″ at PVD
    5.9″ at ORH
    5.0″ in Lowell

A second storm dropped another 4-8″ 2 days later on March 31,

  6. I posted this early this morning:

Saturday’s highs of 80 or higher:

    89 – Chicopee, Windsor Locks
    87 – Hartford, Westfield
    86 – Norwood
    84 – Fitchburg, Bedford
83 – Willimantic, North Smithfield, Orange, Beverly, Boston, Manchester, Portsmouth
    81 – Lawrence, Worcester, Nashua
    80 – Providence, Concord

    Some additions:

    85 – Jamaica Plain
    83 – Lowell
    82 – Blue Hill
81 – Middleton, Epping, NH, Hudson, NH
    80 – E. Milford, NH

    1. I had 83 in JP. My Davis equipment has been very accurate.
I don’t know about that coop station in JP which is about .75-1 mile from my house. Oh well. 83, 85 what’s the diff and don’t you dare say 2 degrees. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      1. I had 86 here. On both kestrels and confirmed by a nws station less than a mile from here

    1. Still ONLY 59 here in JP. Hasn’t budged ALL morning.

“Should” top 60, but we shall see.

    1. Back to 59. Still have all the windows open to get rid of yesterday’s heat build up in the house.

  7. Today is one of those days that for several hours cold advection was offsetting diurnal heating and the temps were nearly steady.

JP Dave gave a good example of this with his temp reports.

    1. I said the under /over would be 60 here and I am stuck at 59 and have been for a while.

    2. Was just out in the yard with a short sleeve Jersey.
In the sun it was most comfortable, actually beautiful!,but inthe shade it was still relatively comfortable, but most definitely coolish.

Now the temp “appears” to be on the rise a bit. Back up to 60.

      TK just described above why….

  8. This morning I watched a wonderful movie entitled:
    The Beat Beneath My Feet

    Trailer:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYCFdgiOrS0

Available on Amazon Prime for free.

It stars Luke Perry who gave a fantastic performance.
If you like music at all (especially rock) , I “think” you might enjoy this movie.

    FWIW, I loved it!!!!

  9. 61 here now. “Hopefully” it will creep up another degree or 2 in the next 1 1/2 hours. πŸ™‚

  10. Happy Easter to all who celebrate !

    Thanks TK !

Been on Horseshoe Beach for a couple hrs now.

70F ish, gentle breeze, comfortable humidity.

  11. Ok, so about 25 years ago, I planted a cold “tolerant” palm from seed that I’ve had to drag into our three-season porch every winter. Last fall I couldn’t get it in the porch because it had reached a little over 8′. I couldn’t bear to toss it after 25 years of care and no local greenhouse would take it. As a result, I built a modest shelter around it including throwing in a space heater.

After a very cold winter and some nail biter nights (including a windy cold one that brought the temp down to 11F in the shelter), I took the shelter down this weekend, and the tree is THRIVING. It’s even starting to flower which says it all.

    Phew.

    Here’s a picture. It’s near my pool.

      1. Imgur doesn’t work on my phone. All I get is complete darkness (a black screen).

  12. The Ch. 7 met said that Boston hit 70F today but he failed to mention to the viewing audience that it was recorded earlier this morning (12:26 am). Highs this afternoon were around 63F.

    1. Ah yes the overnight highs after anomalous warmth shortly after a cold front goes by. πŸ™‚

  13. Thank you, TK.

Sad to hear of the passing of Pope Francis, a compassionate, tolerant person who I, as a non-Catholic (and non-believer for the most part) respected enormously.

On a different note, the weather here has been fine. Periodic very light showers – one during my morning jog earlier today – but also some sunshine with temps in the upper 50s to low 60s during the day and 40s at night.

And in other odds and ends:

TK, I strolled down the Woburn Walk in Bloomsbury (part of London) the other day.

Vicki, a pitcher for the White Sox (Burke), is from Sutton, Massachusetts.

    1. As far as Popes go, I think he was one of the best the church ever had. That’s all I’ll say about that. πŸ™‚

A good friend of mine has been spending a lot of time in the UK, particularly England (London area), recently. She always felt a draw to that area and feels very at home there. I think she’ll be heading over there to live not too long from now. πŸ™‚
