Saturday June 28 2025 Forecast (8:09AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 28 – JULY 2)

A warm front saunters northward across some of but probably not all of the region today, setting up a fairly wide temperature contrast despite a mainly cloudy sky. Most of the rainfall associated with this front will occur early on as a swath of moderate to briefly heavy showers to the north (mainly southern NH / northeastern MA) and a few scattered showers to the south, followed by a generally rain-free day, other than a possible sprinkle. A cold front will sweep through the region tonight with a few additional showers possible. Today will feature a spike of higher humidity that will then back off a bit tomorrow behind the frontal system, although with more sun it will end up a warmer day, even behind the “cold front” (previously discussed this here). High pressure builds in late Sunday then slides offshore Monday, which will be a fair and very warm day with moderate humidity. A cold front approaches and passes through the region Tuesday, with a quick shot of heat, higher humidity, and a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Behind this come an area of high pressure with sunshine and warmth for Wednesday, with lower humidity as well.

TODAY: Mainly cloudy. Showers and a few downpours likely mainly northeastern MA and southern NH until mid morning with scattered showers to the south, then only isolated very light showers thereafter. Highs 68-75 southeastern NH and eastern MA, 75-82 elsewhere. Dew point rises to 65+. Wind E up to 10 MPH southern NH and northeastern MA, SE to S up to 10 MPH elsewhere.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers are most likely overnight from northwest to southeast. Patchy fog. Lows 62-69. Dew point in 60s. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 76-83. Dew point falls to near 60. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 61-68. Dew point 60+. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 76-83 South Coast / Cape Cod, 83-90 elsewhere. Dew point in 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 65-72. Dew point 65+. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Highs 85-92 except cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Dew point 65+. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 61-68. Dew point falls below 60. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 80-87. Dew point in 50s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 3-7)

A passing disturbance can trigger a late-day shower or thunderstorm mainly north of Boston July 3 otherwise look fair mainly dry, warm weather. High pressure builds in with fair, warm, dry weather July 4-5. Next front brings a shower or thunderstorm chance at some point July 6 before fair weather returns for July 7.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 8-12)

West northwest flow, seasonably warm though some temperature variability. A couple fronts can bring brief, passing shower and thunderstorm chances in an overall fairly dry pattern.

  1. Morning and thank you TK

No rain here, but it is dreary for sure.

BTW, I want to thank you again for including the dewpoint range. Much appreciated.

  2. Thanks TK !

.32 and .44 for rain from the 2 closest obs in Old Orchard. Temp is 55F.

Yesterday was beautiful for getting here and setting up, so we happily accept this trade.

  3. FWIW, the 12z HRRR tomorrow does an afternoon “extra” DP drop in southern New England and with a modest land breeze, gets Logan to 90F.

Not a hot pattern, but very warm and Logan has some opportunity with W winds to add to their 90F totals in the coming days by getting to that 90F/91F mark while majority of locations are in the mid-upper 80s.

  4. From my high school days in central NH, I had gotten to know northern New England tv stations and remember some of them.

WCSH is one of a few really good Maine TV stations and I checked out their coastal 7 day forecast.

Anyhow, former Boston ch 4 met Todd Gutner is the chief meteorologist at WCSH. Happy to see him doing well. Something in my head is telling me BZ didn’t see him off ceremoniously many years ago, but I get that sometimes the tv world can be harsh with ratings and all that.

  5. re: Wordle
a bit of a change in luck. Only took 4 guesses this time. Getting there. 🙂

  6. After my three yesterday, I had one letter with my two new first words today and ended up back at my now regular 5/6 Wordle.

  7. Sitting at the top of Mt Cardigan in Orange NH. No one here except for a ranger who told me it’s 49F. Windy cloudy foggy hazy.

Drove up 93 in pouring rain. Trail conditions are tough. Granite is slippery. I had to do a lot of scrambling to make it. And of course MUD.

Still wouldn’t trade it in for anything else. Well maybe a top notch Cabernet! 🙂

    1. Awesome, Longshot. How’s the view? I always enjoyed cloudy views as much as blue sky views when skiing.

    1. I didn’t remember either.

Was it Todd who was with BZ maybe 12 or so years ago when we were suspecting a possible hurricane? He (or maybe not Todd) took the boat to Nantucket because he’d never experienced a hurricane. Sadly, for him it ended up as a TS

  8. July 4th might be Don Kent’s summer polar air.

Near 80F, dps very low. Could be a top 10 summer day for many.

And for those who want it a little warmer, you’ll have plenty of that before the 4th and perhaps resuming again right after the 4th.

  9. Hopefully that holds as that would be perfectly time for the holiday.
I could feel the mugginess outside right now but no where near where it was earlier this week. Even though my area is under a level 1 risk for severe weather from SPC I don’t think anything strong or severe is happening.

  10. JPD, I got the impression that $50 fine is in effect for ALL communities with water bans. I believe it’s a state agency doing this.

If I’m mistaken by all means correct me.

    1. I nay have gotten the report wrong, but for some reason I thought it was in effect for just one community and I can’t remember the name of it. 🙂

  11. Was Todd Gunter WBZ chief meteorologist before Eric? The name does sound familiar. Was he subsequently fired by the station?

  12. Paying closer attention 🙂 (I missed the marker for east coast generally but the day to start paying attention to the WHW area specifically is more important 🙂

  13. Hi all! Midday commentary…

-Warm front is struggling to move north, as expected, maybe even a little more so than I thought it would. Cool air for the win, again.

-I touch base with Todd Gutner off and on on social media. Great guy and met! He recognized me walking through the Lake Q area in Wakefield MA once while setting up to do a live shot for WBZ-TV, and he waved me over to say hi. He remembered me from a couple weather conferences we were at. Glad to see him doing well!

-Sent mom to hospital today. She’s struggling with the same virus I am still getting over. She needs better care and better chance to recover there than she will get here at home. She’s just too weak and exhausted to do this on her own, even with our help. Send good thoughts!

-No changes to my forecast going forward at this point (nor should there be given I just wrote it a few hours ago – haha).

    1. Thanks for checking in TK! I had a feeling you’ve been having health issues as to why you’ve been very quiet lately. 🙂

Was Todd Gutner the WBZ chief meteorologist and then Eric took over?

    2. Darn, TK. I was worried when you said your mom has your virus. I know she has a history of struggling with bronchial viruses. Please give her a hug from me

  14. According to Google:

A comprehensive, statewide list of exact fines for water ban violations in Massachusetts for 2025 by individual towns is unavailable, as penalties can vary between municipalities and their specific water use bylaws
    .
Examples of fines and enforcement measures for water ban violations reported by various towns in Massachusetts during 2025 include:

    – West Newbury: First offense: written warning. Second and subsequent violations within the same calendar year: $100. Fines may be recovered through indictment, complaint, or non-criminal disposition. Continued violations can lead to suspension of water service, with a $250 reactivation fee.
    – Wenham: Violators are subject to fines up to $100 per offense.
Halifax: First offense: verbal warning. Second offense: $50 fine. Third offense: $100 fine. Subsequent violations: termination of water service with a $250 turn-on fee.
    – Hudson: Violations are subject to enforcement fines up to $100 per violation.
    – Acton: Violations are subject to a fine up to $200 per incident.
    – Hingham: First violation: $50 fine. Second violation: $100 fine. Subsequent violations: termination of service plus costs.
    – Sudbury: First offense: written warning. Second offense: $50 fine. Third offense: $100. Fourth offense: $150. Subsequent offenses: termination of water service.
    – Maynard: First violation: warning. Second violation: $50 fine. Third violation: $100 fine. Fourth and subsequent violations: $200.
    – Shrewsbury: First offense: warning. Second offense: $50. Third offense: $100. Fourth and subsequent offenses: $200 with service turn off. Subsequent offenses may result in a $50 reconnection fee and a $300 fine.
    – Orange: First violation: $50. Second and subsequent violations: $100.
    – Lunenburg: First offense: written warning. Second offense: $50. Third offense: $100. Fourth offense: $500. Continued offenses may result in multiple $500 fines and/or termination of service.

    1. Great info. Thank you. To me, the fines could be higher. It seems too many folks ignore them.

  15. It was 42.9 degrees C (109.2 F) in Vinebre, a municipality in Catalunya, the northeast Spanish region. It was the hottest temperature ever recorded in June in Catalunya.

  16. We’ve had a campfire going the last 2 hrs, but in the last 20 mins, a light mist has regenerated and the fog is lowering quickly. Pine trees 50 yds away are becoming fuzzy to view.

  17. Weather turned out great for my big 11 hour job in Carver today , thanks Tk .

  18. Just finished wordle now checking the blog.

Sending good healing thoughts for your mom TK!

I ran 8 miles today, the weather was great for it.

  19. NHC is 0 for 2 this season. 2 named storms. Neither was worthy of a name.

And in other news, the GFS is back to creating imaginecanes. 😉

    1. Was at Fenway today and just got back home and logged on a little while ago. I’m struggling to find anything that looks organized enough in the Bay of Campeche to be worthy of a name. Is there even a circulation there?

      Wait, just read the discussion:

“During the latter part of the Hurricane Hunter Mission this afternoon, the aircraft was unable to close off the circulation”

“surface observations suggest the circulation is still closed.”

So let me get this straight. The plane couldn’t find a circulation, but the obs say there “might” be one there, so they called it a tropical depression. Looking at the obs myself, I don’t see anything that remotely shows a circulation. There are exactly ZERO obs with a westerly component to the winds. None.

What in the wide world of sports are they doing down in Miami?

        1. Staffing cuts have nothing to do with this at all. This is the same nonsense they have been doing for years.

      1. What they are doing goes against everything we learned both in college and from the best in the business we worked with in the private sector.

  20. Sadly NHC has had this problem for many years now. It’s been called out by many seasoned meteorologists, and briefly improved with a new director, but has slipped right back. 🙁
