Wednesday July 2 2025 Forecast (7:17AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 2-6)

The slower shifting weather that I talked about the other day really shows itself today. In the last few days, while we did expect the hotter, humid Tuesday with a PM t-storm threat, the expectation was to clear out at night and have a sunny, warm, dry Wednesday. But the cold front had other ideas, and decided it’s going to slog slowly across our region, taking basically an extra 24 hours to finish its journey, finally sauntering off the South Coast by this evening. What does this mean for today’s weather? It means that dew points remain high in southern areas much of the day, but gradually lower from northwest to southeast. It means lots of clouds linger, with very little sunshine south of I-90, but partial sun to the north. Scattered showers are also expected south of I-90, favoring the South Coast, and can linger around Cape Cod and the Islands into early tonight before finally coming to an end. So what was expected to be a bright pleasant day ends up as a slow transition day. The forecast for Thursday has not changed. Expect a warm day with a little re-spike in humidity ahead of a cold front associated with a low pressure area that will pass by to our north. This will trigger showers and thunderstorms to our north and west by midday Thursday, and these will make a run at our region during the afternoon, but may struggle to hold together with limited coverage and a downward trend in intensity. This system leads in a refreshing Canadian air mass that’s going to result in Friday, Independence Day, being a “Top 10” kind of day with abundant sun, a few fair weather clouds, a refreshing breeze, seasonable warmth but very low humidity. Regionwide it will be a dry evening for fireworks displays etc. And fair weather is set to continue through the weekend with an up-trend in temperature and humidity from Saturday through Sunday as high pressure builds into the region.

TODAY: South of I-90 – mainly cloudy, scattered showers, highs 75-82, dew point near 70 falling through 60s later. From I-90 northward – clouds thin and break for partial sun, especially afternoon, highs 82-89, dew point lowers through 60s. Wind variable to W 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clouds and a few showers lingering Cape Cod / Islands early, otherwise clearing. Lows 60-67. Dew point lowers to upper 50s. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Sunny start, then a sun/cloud combo with a passing shower or thunderstorm possible in the afternoon, favoring areas north of I-90. Highs 83-90, but a bit cooler Cape Cod. Dew point returns to the 60s. Wind W to SW 5-15 MPH, can be stronger gusts around any showers and storms.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 57-64. Dew point dropping to around 50. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY (INDEPENDENCE DAY): Sun and passing clouds. Highs 77-84. Dew point around 50. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 59-66. Dew point lower to middle 50s. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 80–87. Dew point near 60. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 63-70. Dew point near 60. Wind WSW up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 86-93 except cooler South Coast / Cape Cod. Dew point in 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 7-11)

A frontal boundary approaches from the north July 7 with timing uncertain. While it may remain rain-free across most of the region, expect an increase in clouds and the potential for some showers and thunderstorms to the north by later in the day along with a continuation of hot, humid weather. Expectations are for that frontal boundary to make it down into the region, become stationary, and gradually dissipate through the middle of next week with a daily chance of showers / thunderstorms July 8-10 before high pressure builds in at the end of the period with fair weather.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 12-16)

There’s still a lot of uncertainty regarding the details of the mid July weather pattern. Guidance has shifted from a dry stretch to daily episodes of showers and thunderstorms and back again. Recent guidance indicates a fairly typical summer look to the upper pattern: Jet stream to the north in Canada, south of that a weak ridge of high pressure near and off the US East Coast, a trough of low pressure Great Lakes / Midwest, and a ridge of high pressure out West. For us this pattern is “mostly dry” but with a couple episodes of showers and thunderstorms, warm to borderline hot at times but no “extreme heat”. There are a few hints late-period of a stronger look to the jet to the north and we’ll have to watch this because it could signal some changes at and beyond mid month.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK

    Made 91 yesterday
73 overnight and 74 now with dp 68

  2. Thank you, TK. Hoping your mom is showing signs of improvement

    Yesterday’s highs 92 /. 77. Now 70 / 69

    1. She’s a bit better. I’m rather displeased at how quickly they are trying to push her out of there though still. She’s not ready. She needs a stay in rehab, and they’re talking about sending her home and skipping rehab. Highly disagree with their assessment so far. I know my mom – she’s not ready to be home yet.

Another sign of how messed up our medical and insurance system is in the good old U.S.A. … In other words, it’s a joke. Pay all this money for insurance, the companies don’t wanna pay anything and just wanna “eject” you.

Meanwhile, a friend and his wife on honeymoon in western Europe, come down with flu, go to emergency room at city hospital, treated like royalty, going to be there until completely recovered. Yep, Europe does it right. We do it wrong.

      1. I agree totally and I could go off on a rant as to why….
        but not here. 🙂

      2. I am thrilled that your mom is showing improvement. I’m disgusted with our medical system. And the scary part is Massachusetts is among the top states for healthcare. Imagine what the rest of the county is like.

When we had trouble with the Insurance for Mac, I asked the company to provide an advocate. I questioned how fair she would be since she was a member of the co but she was excellent. I wonder if you could ask your co for an advocate

I strongly support a one payer system. I have always battled healthcare systems in this country. I can honestly say that the Medicare with bcbs as a supplement is as good as it gets.

As far as Europe. During Covid I followed practices from several European countries as opposed to ours.

        1. I’ll add that Medicare advantage with UHC is a nightmare. It did to my brother and before him, his wife, what the hospital is doing to your mom.

          1. 🙁 It puzzles me how we can be so backward with all the resources and tools we have to do this better.

            1. I agree. Greed will do it every time. It terrifies me how close we now are to going right over the edge.

              1. I could too but doesn’t that explain a lot. Politics has no place in our health

      3. I hope your mom is able to get the time she needs before being sent home. Good luck !

        1. It has gotten so much worse than it even used to be!!!
Hospitals and most medical care are run for PROFIT, period! Patients be damned!!!

    1. Excellent. I could NOT solve it. Go Figure.
I even had 3 letters in the correct position and still couldn’t solve it. I am feeling like Mickey the DUNCE!!!

      1. I’ve been playing Wordle from the start and am well over 1000 games. I was really competitive with myself at the start and often frustrated. I get where you are coming from. I don’t think there is a way to beat the game. It’s all too random and I’m sure nyt the information it needs from analysis to make it more difficult as time passes. Also it seems words are getting more unusual which makes sense since there are only so many words

Where i consistently had the answer by at least 12:15 am, I am now more often than not starting at midnight but ending up putting it aside till I wake up.

        1. I am still new, so I’ll keep trying. I KNOW I can do much better, but it isn’t happening just yet. 🙂

          Thanks

  3. When Partners basically bought the hospital system in Massachusetts and Mass General Hospital started to merge other hospitals, they went from a patient-oriented to the Patient being a number. Other groups have also followed suit. My Dad and many other middle management fought this but lost. There is a whole restructuring of the system as well. Taking out specialized areas and putting them in more centralized areas. Making people in charge of the entire systems department and not giving them more pay etc and also not having the same training. Getting rid of middle management positions ( who deal with management but are also there on the ground, still interacting with the Patients. The healthcare system in the USA is going backwards not forwards and both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of this one more so than the other but still.

    1. Now with that said some of the smaller precedures that you can get at an urgent care center in the USA, the Urgent care centers here do not have. Urgent cares in the USA can have xrays and cat scans, Urgent care do not have that over seas alot of the times. At least here where I am at. Had to wait 2 weeks to get a scan on my foot/ankle. In the states they would have done the xray and then the scan at the same time.

    2. That middle management is a big one for me. When there is a disconnect between the patients and people making decisions about them, that’s a big issue.

I have dealt with that directly, working in assisted living, with people in offices making decisions about people who pay to be residents, without ever actually interacting with them to find out what they really want. I hate it.

      1. I had a phenomenal pcp maybe 15 years ago. She ended up creating a concierge service. That bothers me except I understood. The drs were told by partners that they have 15 minutes with a patient. More is referred to PA. She couldn’t play. We’ve lost too many exceptional drs because of this. Matt’s explanation is excellent

I had a pcp who was best ever. I do extensive research when choosing my drs. This person was pushed out by the system because he had a medical condition that temporarily limited him. It’s taken me over a year to find another who was accepting new patients and who doesn’t play management games.

  4. I sent you a bday greeting on social media but Happy Birthday Matt here as well!

  5. Thank you TK! Hope they do the right thing for your mom. I despise our healthcare system.

Wordle report – 3 due to a lucky guess!

  6. The usual media shenanigans, driven by non-meteorologists of course.

Hyping up tropical development around Florida and focusing on it being a big problem for July 4 and the extended weekend. Most of these stories come along with an old satellite picture of a powerful hurricane – a scare / hype tactic that should NEVER be used. Yet, the worst case scenario there is a weak tropical depression forming at some point over the weekend, probably mainly offshore, but either way a convergence zone with increased shower and thunderstorm activity, fairly typical for this time of year.

Wonder how many people will now change plans because of a “hurricane threat” that does not exist.

Yes, tropical depressions and even just persistent showers and thunderstorms due to tropical moisture can cause flooding issues, but I don’t even think that is going to be much of an issue during the holiday weekend.

Media continues to routinely disappoint me, not that this is any surprise.

    1. Been watching it off and on. Looks like possible strong showers to me … emphasis on possible.

Meanwhile I think Flossie hit Cat 3 status but it will have a very short life.

        1. I think of corporate (fill in weather agency name) as corporate America. 😉

    1. Boston is less likely that inland during the early part of the summer due to their proximity to the ocean, unless particular dynamics are present. Otherwise, that’s really just climatology talking.

      1. yup. Boston almost always escapes. There have been exceptions to be sure, but usually no big deal around here. 🙂

  7. Damaging winds and hail the main threats with the stronger thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening.

  8. Atlantic 2-day tropical outlook.
NO DEVELOPMENT THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

Meanwhile, all the online news outlets continue to trumpet doom & gloom for Florida. Insanity.

Yes, there is a 40% chance of development beyond 48 hours, but as previously mentioned …….. you know the rest of the story.

    1. What the hell days are those?????????????????????

      How about Sunday and Monday!!!!!

      1. I’m sure that is what I saw. 😉

I typed 70+ wpm in my day…not that long ago. Accurately. I can barely get two words in a row accurately on these small keyboards.

  9. Sox win 5-3. This was a continuation of last night’s game that was rain delayed.

Next game is at 7:10 PM tonight. Sox could sweep the Reds with a win.

    1. If they do sweep, they’ll get our hopes up again, and we all know what usually happens next.

      1. So, they’re still supposed to win every game? 🙂

This team is not as bad as you think they are. 😉

Are they a world championship team? Certainly not. Do they “suck”? FAR FROM IT. I don’t care what anybody says.

They have issues, yes. They are working hard to fix them. They don’t just say they are. They are. Here’s the thing. They play virtually every day against other professional players. It’s a tough deal working on issues and being ready for games, but they do pretty well given their overall record – which is pretty much exactly where I said it would be.

        1. No, of course I don’t expect them to win every single game, but is it too much to ask to simply “win more games than you lose”during the second half of the season? 🙂

  10. After a review of the later guidance – no changes to forecast.

Still battling with hospital / insurance on some things.

Them (paraphrased) “Who can we train to give your mother a shot for 3 days?”

Us: “Nobody. We said we’re not comfortable with it.”

    Them: “Yeah, but insurance wants…………….”

Us: “We’re not comfortable with it. Find someone.”

Them: “You can appeal it. It takes about 48 hours.” (At this point they’re trying to help us.)

Well, 48 hours, plus holiday, they can finish the final 3 days of the shot AT the hospital. Screw insurance. Screw them. We PAY them. They can GIVE A LITTLE BACK!

    1. Does she have advantage? These are the same responses we got about my brother. And we were told to appeal but ….and this is verbatim…….we may not have the time to read your appeal within a week.

Reminder, you don’t have a week for the appeal

    2. I spent 5 years working for a health insurance company while living on the west coast. I follow health care and to me there are 2 huge issues: 1) The lack of qualified people in health insurance companies. 2) A shortage of physicians and a mega-shortage of highly qualified physicians.

Put these two together and we end up with lack of understanding, compassion, and quality care for patients. If you do not have an advocate or advocate for yourself / family, health coverage and care can be rough worlds.

Fortunately you have experience! Most do not.

        1. So are surgical specialties. There are others too. I know of a hospital that searched for a GI physician for over a year.

      1. Advocacy is a recent field. After finally got his insurance co to honor Dr requests, Mac’s Dana oncologist asked me if I would think about an advocacy position. I was almost tempted except I am sure I couldn’t handle the foolishness

  11. Thanks, TK.

I am very sorry that you’re battling insurance. No-one should have to do that. And yes, Europe does insurance MUCH better than the U.S. This includes private insurance.

When I lived in the Netherlands we as a family had private health coverage, as does everyone in Holland. It’s all private insurance, there is NO public sector insurance. Everyone must sign up for coverage. Huge penalty if you don’t. This prevents adverse selection and cherry-picking. There are means-tested government subsidies for people and the government steps in as reinsurer for very high cost patients. Most insurers are for profit, BUT heavily regulated. One time in June 1994, my 1-year old daughter got very sick while we were visiting Boston. She had a 3 day stay in the Children’s Hospital, lots of tests and medicines. I called our Dutch for profit insurer and requested direct pay reimbursement from them to the Children’s Hospital. They immediately said yes. I will never forget what the person told me over the phone in Dutch: “Your daughter is sick, you have health insurance with us, you’ve paid your premiums, we take care of the rest. I wish your daughter a speedy recovery. If you need anything else from us, don’t hesitate to ask.” Needless to say, when we moved to the U.S. our experiences with U.S. health insurers have been subpar and at times demeaning. I once asked a top Dutch executive at an insurance company. He said, we insurers make a lot of money. The last thing we should do is make it difficult for our enrollees.

    1. Rob Wright & Mark Garfinkle are 2 of the best photographers that contribute to Boston media.

  12. Thanks TK.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Hope she gets better and is able to get home when the time is right.

Insurance is beyond the worst thing we have in this country. Health Insurance should not be for profit, period. Single payer system and then if folks want to add more at their own expenses

    1. I am proof of that. Medicare (not advantage which Is worth repeating ) is like a breath of fresh sit

        1. Omg. It was supposed to be air. Absolute proof of what I said earlier about my typing ability on devices.

          1. It’s especially funny to me because I immediately thought of what you said earlier today about your typing.
