Thursday July 31 2025 Forecast (6:24AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 31 – AUGUST 4)

On this final day of July, with a frontal boundary having dropped through the region overnight and becoming quasi-stationary near the South Coast, a wave of low pressure will develop and start moving along the front. This will bring a widespread rainfall to the region, developing / evolving during the day and peaking in coverage and intensity this evening and tonight. Rainfall may be heavy enough to lead to some areas of flooding, especially on roadways, so use caution if traveling. During Friday, a drying trend will take place from northwest to southeast as the low pressure wave moves by and away, and clearing will follow later Friday through Friday night. This sets up a fabulous weekend as high pressure builds in with fair weather, low humidity, and generally seasonably temperatures, though a bit cooler Saturday than Sunday. Fair weather continues and a warm-up takes place early next week as high pressure sinks slightly southward.

TODAY: Partly sunny for a while in some locations, then becoming cloudy. Isolated to scattered showers develop morning-midday, becoming more numerous to eventually widespread afternoon-evening. Embedded downpours possible with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Highs 73-80. Dew point 60s. Wind NE to E up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Widespread showers. Areas of fog. Lows 61-68. Dew point 60+.

FRIDAY: Cloudy with showers gradually diminishing northwest to southeast, followed by breaking clouds / partial clearing with similar trend. Areas of fog early. Highs 68-75. Dew point 60+. Wind E backing to N 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Patchy fog. Lows 56-63. Dew point falls into 50s. Wind N to NW up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 76-83. Dew point sub-60. N up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes developing.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Fog patches interior lower elevations. Lows 55-62. Dew point sub-60. Wind calm.

SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs 77-84. Dew point sub-60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog. Lows 60-67. Dew point near 60. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 80-87. Dew point near 60. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 5-9)

High pressure will be dominant with fair weather and typical summertime temperatures across the region for this 5-day period.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 10-14)

High pressure shifts off the Atlantic Coast heading toward mid month, with a pattern that would feature higher humidity and a slightly better chance to see some shower and thunderstorm development at times.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

My thoughts are with you as you say good-bye to your Mom this morning.

    1. Thanks Dave and thank you to everybody for all the messages of condolence, love, and support during this time.

Mom was blessed with a long life, and while we’re very sad to lose her, we take comfort in knowing she lived long and happily, and had the family she always wanted, and that when her time came she was comfortable.

We’ll move forward from today not carrying sadness of loss, but thankfulness for a full life and many happy memories.

      1. I pray you find strength and comfort today in the love that surrounds you as celebrate the life of a remarkable lady. May your mom rest in sweet peace.

  2. CNN gave me my “journalistic” laugh this morning.
They actually headlined a cool-down, which is a rare thing for media to do, but of course they had to hype & fear it by saying it comes with a “dangerous catch” that threatens millions of people.

The catch? Showers and thunderstorms that usually accompany cold fronts in summertime. Yep. Normal. Yes, can be dangerous, but do they think we’re that stupid that we’ll fall for it being something like we’ve never seen before? They most certainly do, and sadly, they’ll be correct about a segment of the population, which is one of the reasons they (and others) keep doing this.

I remember when journalism was actually good, now you need to search intensely to find the few shreds of it that are still out there.

    1. While I agree journalism has sunk to a new low, I have never trusted it. The globe has always had a left bias….the Herald a right bias. And the record American was a rag no matter what direction you turned. I’ve been trying to figure what the difference is between then and now because what you say is truth. Maybe it’s the deliberate lies. Both sides.

There are some exceptional publications. Christian Science monitor tops the list. I have a graphic I use but also a site. It has sadly come down to not only citing my comments but sadly also citing my source. Ship of fools really doesn’t say enough.

      Rant over. I think.

  3. Wordle: miracle 3

Up here, we were woken to a quick 3 am downpour.

Looking at the northeast radar …… at the surface, the wind may be N and NE, but above, that ridge still looks stout.

It looks like the stratiform rain is further north in northern New England and the convective elements are into south central western New England.

Interested to see how this plays out for rain totals.

    1. I got it in 3 as well. It actually came pretty easy to me this time around. Each word is different. So critical to get some letters and most especially in the correct position. 🙂

      1. Absolutely.

Had the first 2 letters in the correct spot plus a vowel in the wrong spot after 2 guesses, then sat for a bit pondering possibilities and luckily, the one I chose was what they had.

        1. Had the first letter in correct position after 1st guess.
Had the first correct and another letter in the incorrect position after 2 with 4 vowels eliminated. So that gave me something to work with and then guessed correctly. It just came to me.

          1. Very nice. I thought I was going to be stuck in choices after guess three and four with all but the first letter.

  4. Thank you, TK.

I am thinking of you and your family today as your mother is put to rest. I’ve always liked the Jewish expression, “may her memory be a blessing.” Even though it’s technically Jewish it can apply to anyone.

I have fond memories of my mother every day. And that is a daily blessing.

    1. I’m sure I have mentioned that between the time I was laid off and got my own business underway I nannied for a Rabbi in Newton and her two children. I learned so many special phrases and traditions. Your sentiment is heartwarming. Another favorite of mine was when the four year old told me he wears a Yarmulke to remind him that G-d is always above him.

  5. This weekend is shaping up to be one of the best weekends of the summer with comfortable levels of humidity and highs upper 70s low 80s

  6. Sun did come out yesterday and while I was visiting the Bloomsbury area of London it got to 74F.

It rained this morning, and showers may be in the offing later today. London needs the rain, actually. It’s been rather dry.

It’s been a mostly cloudy day in the upper 60s, but when the sun tries to poke through I think the temp jumps up a degree or two. Humidity (dew point) has spiked. I noticed that on my run in the park. It’s around 64F. It was in the 50s throughout the first 4 days of my stay.

  7. Light rain now. Power just went out and immediately back on. Power outages seem very common in Sutton but not in our neighborhood

    1. NOTHING will be done OR if it is, it will be a garbage worthless trade for no value. Jaded? You Bet!

  8. Vicki, thank you for sharing the story of the little boy wearing a Yarmulke and saying that G-d (adonai) is above him (Jews leave out the o in God, as you noted).

I believe the Catholic tradition of wearing caps – popes and cardinals – stems from the Jewish one.

There are SO many traditions and practices that unite rather than separate us. This includes Muslims and Jews, whose burial, dietary, circumcision, and other practices (eg, among the orthodox, gender separation in places of worship) are perhaps more similar than everyday practices of Christians and Jews.

Though religion can be a source of conflict, I’m someone who believes that it’s false (or at least distorted) interpretations of religious texts AND politics that divide religions and can cause wars.

Also, I think that a superiority complex can infect religions. In my view, there’s no superior religion or “right path.” We each can choose a religion or not and to be religious or not. There is no right path, other than the one you’re on so long as you’re comfortable with it and it isn’t self-destructive.

    1. Awesome comment and thank you. Mac was not a particularly religious man but he did have faith. He said often that we all religions and non religions have one thing in common…..to follow the golden rule. My Mac was a very wise man.

  9. We were able to sneak in a walk from 10:00 to 11:00. The rain seem to be on a strict schedule on the hour!

  10. It was just a few weeks ago NYC had bad flooding that flooded some of the subways.

  11. We made it through these few days. Just wanted to once again thank everybody for all the support during this difficult time.

Today (and yesterday) went about as smoothly as one can hope for when saying goodbye to a loved one. But as I like to think, the goodbye refers to only the physical presence. The even stronger spiritual presence will remain for all time ahead of us, and that will be a source of strength and love for everyone who knew of my mom, no matter how close they were to her or how well they knew her. 🙂

    ……………………

Some weather thoughts. Obviously I haven’t looked at too much since writing this morning’s update (in fact, just woke up from a rare but needed afternoon nap). No changes though. In glancing at things and reading SAK’s weekend update, my thoughts align. After we get by this bout of wetness, some great weather is ahead!

Honestly, I am hoping we can stretch it well into next week. I have a beach outing planned for next Thursday, and this summer has not giving me much opportunity as of yet to do that kind of thing. This very evening, rain no obstacle, I am driving up to the beach to put my feet in the water with my son and grabbing a slice of pizza. Off we go…

    1. Your mom remains in your heart and in your memory. As you know, I fully believe in signs from our loved ones My guess is your mom’s first sign was making sure her son found some peace in a nap.

    2. Left a comment on insta but to continue here – yes! She’s always with you, imprinted on you and all the others whose lives she’s touched. I felt like I knew her just based on all the stories you’ve told over the years. ❤️

  12. It took literally the entire day yesterday for rain to finally reach here in Quincy while Boston had steady rain for most of the afternoon. Amazing how just a few precious miles made the difference!

Meteorologically, what mechanism prevented the rain from moving SE?

It seems that there has been a very fine line of precipitation one way or the other between Boston and Quincy much of this summer so far.

    1. There was nothing in the atmosphere to move the boundary (where the lift was occurring), so it was quasi-stationary, and only drifting very slowly. Afterward, the movement started to pick up speed a bit, so areas that took forever to get into the rain actually ended up with a much shorter period of rain than areas to the north.
