Wednesday September 3 2025 Forecast (7:12AM)

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 3-7)

High pressure over the region early today slides offshore during the next 24 hours and sits there for a couple days after that, while a weak upper low over our area pulls out of the region today. Meanwhile a broad trough of low pressure will approach the Northeast from the west late this week, crossing the region this weekend. This is the large scale picture. What does that mean for our day to day weather? It translates to today being similar to yesterday with lots of sun and pleasant feeling air, a touch warmer than yesterday for some areas but still manageable humidity levels. Those humidity levels bump up a bit more, along with the temperature, on Thursday. A cold front will approach the region in the evening bringing more clouds in but this front will be dissipating as it loses support and may only cause a passing shower in the pre-dawn hours of Friday. That day itself will be even warmer with even higher humidity, and there can be a passing shower or t-storm in a few locations, but most of the day will be rain-free, and many areas will see nothing at all. The warmth and humidity continue elevated into the start of the weekend, with Saturday being another such day. A stronger cold front will cross the region, but this may not happen until sometime Saturday night or even early Sunday morning as the trend for this to occur has been with slower timing. That front will bring our best shot at showers and a few thunderstorms in the region, but it may be only for a relatively short period of time and not particularly beneficial as we continue to see our region having an increased need for rain after a dry summer. What the front will do is deliver cooler, less humid air by the end of the weekend, though clouds may be stubborn to completely let go of our region on Sunday, so I can’t forecast a completely sunny day at this point.

TODAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 74-81, coolest along the coast. Wind variable under 10 MPH becoming SE to S up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 55-62. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 75-82, coolest South Coast. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A passing shower possible overnight. Patchy fog. Lows 58-65. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Slight chance of a passing shower or thunderstorm. Highs 80-87 except 70s South Coast. Dew point in 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 62-69. Dew point 60+. Wind S to SW up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Sun/cloud mix. Highs 81-88, except cooler South Coast. Dew point in 60s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Showers and possibly a thunderstorm mainly overnight. Patchy fog overnight. Lows 63-70. Dew point 60+. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Variably cloudy. A shower possible early, favoring eastern areas. Highs 70-77. Dew point falls below 60. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 8-12)

Canadian high pressure builds in with fair, cool weather early next week, then sinks slowly southward with continued fair weather with still-cool nights but warmer afternoons mid to late week.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 13-17)

At mid month we watch a battle between renewed Canadian high pressure from the north and a frontal boundary with areas of low pressure to the south. Leaning toward domination by the former, with a dry pattern persisting here with near to below normal temperatures. This does not mean we cannot get a period of warmer, more humid weather including shower chances. Will monitor trends.

  1. Thank you, TK.

Generally speaking, when you project cooler conditions for the South Coast, does that include the (mid)-Cape?

  2. Sports;

Red Sox are given a 75-90% chance to reach the playoffs. They do have a tough schedule ahead of them.

Red Sox are given about a 2.5 to 4.5% of winning the World Series.

Game time weather does not look too bad this weekend. Some rain but not lots.

The Patriots are underdogs this weekend by about a field goal.

    Game time weather looks okay!

    1. Roman Anthony is out for the remainder of the season and probably part of the playoffs if they make it that far. Pretty big loss.

      1. Certainly the WS is now out of play, so to speak.

As for the Patriots, they are 2 1/2 point favorite.

  3. Thanks TK!

A lot of big picture pattern similarities to last year right now. Right about this time last year I recall warning of looming fall fire season dangers in the Northeast from the building rain deficit. Overall we’re in a little better shape this year with a wetter summer, but after the couple minor shower events over the next few days, I could see the pattern going from the “dry” which it’s been lately to the “bone dry” of early fall 2024. Watch for brush fire activity to potentially pick up across the greater Northeast/New England region by mid September or soon after as drying worsens and leaf drop/winter dormancy starts to set in…

FWIW, I fully expect these pattern similarities to hold into the winter months, with odds favoring another cold winter, by 21st century standards at least, in a lot of the East. And probably quite dry again here in the West. I’m seeing 2013-2014 kicked around a lot as an analog, although I feel like last year was more of the 13-14 year and that this year would be more similar to a 14-15 look.

    1. Thanks WxW!

A lot of people will see “2014-2015” and think record snow, but an analog does not mean identical results. It means similarities (if it pans out), and some of those are quite loose.

      1. I was actually thinking the same thing. I’ll take “normal” snowfall (49.2”) the way things have been going the past few years. 🙂

  4. Roman Anthony to IL, 4-6 weeks.

Tough, he has been a big piece of this resurgence to the season.

He out so much pressure on the other team right in the first inning, sometimes with lead off HR’s or by getting on.

I’m glad they have a 6 gm cushion for the wild card.

This is a huge loss, Story needs to keep his season going and they need Bregman to get out of his recent slump.

    1. What I want to know is how the hell does one sustain this injury on a check swing?????????????????????????????????????????????????

          1. Why? Because of one person in a team game? The WS is a long-shot as is, but it’s NOT out of play because of ONE player.

        1. Did you see the play?
Didn’t look like much to me. I JUST don’t get it.
I PLAYED a lot of baseball and checked my swing plenty of times and believe me I had a very powerful swing. Never did I come close to hurting myself while swinging or check swinging. Very strange to me.

    1. A suspected person with a firearm. It has not been confirmed. The person was spotted walking near a housing complex on the campus with that looked like a weapon, but it has not been confirmed that it is indeed a gun, and there have been no reports of any shots fired anywhere at this point.

    2. My son is a graduate student at UML, but was not on campus today. He showed me a video that a student took from a dorm room, and it looks like there is a firearm.

He received a barrage of emails and texts about the incident from UML. They were very confusing. They mentioned a “long weapon” and never said it was believed to be a firearm.

        1. Ihope they know something that allowed them to allow a lift.

Until verified, it has to be treated as a real thread.

Prayers for all and hugs to you and Mrs SClarke

          1. The lifting of the order seems a little strange to me:

As of 5:28 p.m., the lockdown and shelter-in-place orders were lifted for all UMass Lowell campuses, according to an emergency text alert.

“Based on a search and investigation, law enforcement partners believe the suspect is no longer in the vicinity,” the alert stated. “A large police presence is being maintained on campus, and officers will be stationed at all residence halls overnight.”

            From https://www.lowellsun.com/2025/09/03/shelter-in-place-ordered-at-umass-lowell-following-report-of-armed-individual/

            1. I agree. 5:40 Update

              5:40 p.m. Update:

State and Local Police continue to gather information in support of an ongoing investigation into this afternoon’s incident at UMass Lowell.

There are no reports of any shots fired or injuries, and Troopers and Officers will maintain a presence in and around the City as a precaution. We encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling 911.

If you have any information, photos, or video of the suspect, please report it to the Lowell Police Department (Official).

              ###

              Original 3:45 p.m. Post:
We are aware of a video circulating of a person who appears to be armed walking in Lowell near the Riverview Suites on Middlesex Street.

State and Local Police have responded to the area to further investigate.

Anyone with relevant information should call 911

  5. Just a reminder. The Red Sox record is 78-62. That’s not bad.

Be thankful you’re not rooting for the 39-100 Colorado Rockies.

    😉

    1. Sox have proven me wrong. I commend them for that.

While the Rockies are very bad, the won’t end up with the worst-ever record.

Injuries are part of the game, but the Sox have had quite a few: Casas, Bregman, Abreu, Meyer, Anthony.

  6. Red Sox could use a touchdown and extra point. 😉

    Cleveland 7-0 (4th)

At least they won the series.
