Wednesday October 1 2025 Forecast (7:11AM)

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 1-5)

Welcome to October 2025! We’ll start the month off with a cool interlude, between some warm end-of-September days and another upcoming warm-up. First, we have a northeasterly air flow of cool Canadian air between a large high pressure area to our north and offshore tropical activity – where Hurricane Imelda is gaining strength and organization southwest of Bermuda while Hurricane Humberto, northwest of Bermuda, weakens rapidly and is set to merge with an upper trough before its remains become absorbed by Imelda, which will batter Bermuda later tonight through tonight, before quickly moving on and losing tropical characteristics heading into the North Atlantic waters. The only impact of note for our area, besides the gusty coastal breeze, will be some large ocean swells and rough surf along the coast during the next couple days, which can lead to some splash-over and minor flooding during high tide times. We are not at a time of astronomically high tides so this will lessen the impact somewhat. Weather-wise, we keep a dry spell going on through the coming weekend, with a significant warm-up in the cards as high pressure first drifts over our region then sinks to the south, giving us a toasty return flow, making the first weekend of October feel a tad bit more like late summer instead.

TODAY: Ocean-effect clouds MA South Shore to South Coast, dissipating later. Otherwise sunny. Highs 60-67. Wind NE 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH eastern coastal areas including higher gusts, especially MA South Shore to Cape Cod.

TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 42-49. Wind NE 5-15 MPH except 15-25 MPH Cape Cod including higher gusts.

THURSDAY: Sunny. Highs 58-65. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts, diminishing during the afternoon.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Clear. Patchy low elevation fog. Lows 38-45. Wind calm.

FRIDAY: Sunny. Highs 65-72. Wind variable under 10 MPH then SW up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 51-58. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Sunny. Highs 72-79, coolest South Coast. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 53-60. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs 75-82. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 6-10)

High pressure parked to the south continues the fair, warm weather early next week until a cold front from the west brings a chance of showers sometime during the second half of October 7 through the first half of October 8 – based on current expected timing. This will be followed by a return to dry weather but with cooler air for the balance of this period.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 11-15)

Expectation continues to be for a zonal flow (generally west to east) pattern with some up and down temps and only a brief shower threat (~October 13). The warm-up would occur before shower threat, then a cool-down after.

  1. Testing 1, 2 3…

I noticed a little error on a WP update. It doesn’t look like it’s having an impact but if anybody experiences any issues with reading or commenting here today, let me know.

    1. The two things I noticed is that when I go to https://www.woodshill.net/ I get a page not found error and have to click today’s date on the menu.

Unlike jpdave I can see the entire update so maybe the first issue is what he is seeing?

Also I am also seeing the following error on the daily weather page (. i.e: https://www.woodshill.net/?p=19494) just above the comments section.

Warning: get_comment(): Argument #1 ($comment) must be passed by reference, value given in /home/public/wp-includes/class-wp-comment-query.php on line 484

  2. Thanks TK !

I wonder if other hurricanes have taken this track to impact Bermuda.

I would think the majority approach from the south-southeast. This one is approaching from the southwest side of the island.

Very breezy here with a few low clouds coming in off the ocean.

Yes, that was an interesting look from WP this morning, lol.

    1. Excellent. I was all around it and didn’t get it till I wasted a guess to get a 4th letter. Then got it in 5. Should have had it even in 3 and certainly 4.

    2. I got it in three.

I had nothing on the first guess. Does that count as a two?
      🙂 🙂

      1. Awesome! Nope, you wasted a 1st guess. Considering,
it is amazing you got it in 3!!! Great job.

        1. Sometimes a complete miss really helps, depending on the five letters that it eliminates and, of course, what letters are in the solution.

      2. I always thought it counted as two but a couple of friends pointed out that it held some because letters are eliminated.

  3. Good morning and thank you TK

    52 here this morning

Yay Sox. Crochet is truly an ace!!!
Chapman can still bring it at 101, age 37

    WIordle: 5

    1. I couldn’t believe Crochet threw his fastest pitch (100.2 mph) on his 117th pitch.

That 9th inning, credit to Chapman for getting out of bases loaded, no outs. I guess it just couldn’t have gone a less stressful, 1-2-3 outing 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. Crochet is a BEAST!!!!

I had my reservations when they signed him. Boy, Was I ever wrong. There was no need.

  4. When I go to https://www.woodshill.net/ I get:

This error is also all around:

    1. Me too. Messaged to TK who was aware of it. I didn’t know I could still post till just a minute ago

    1. Does that mean I will have to turn on the heat?
I have NOT done so yet. 1st time EVER I have made it to October
without having the heat on. 🙂 🙂

The other day had both furnances tuned up so they are ready to go.

      1. I typically make it to November…hopefully. I’m still having sticker shock from the AC bills.

  5. Thanks all…

This does appear to be a WP problem and unrelated to the local server it’s running thru.

  6. My son and DIL are flying Edinburgh to London but the London Boston flight was just cancelled. AA rebooked but it’s a REALLY tight connection. I was thinking staying a night in london on AAs dime might be fun.

      1. Awesome. Hopefully if the alternative flight from AA is missed, AA will still cover costs. Either way, a night in London would be pretty cool

  7. To TK:

When I type in woodshill.net, I see only the following in the center of the page.

I get to today’s blog by clicking on today’s blog along the left hand side.

    1. I did the same. When I use my phone, though, there is no left hand side; but if I scroll down past the warnings,I can see a persons name so click on that to get here

    1. Still seeing “Page not found” when accessing this site. At least no more error messages for now.

      1. Thank you. I hadn’t thought of the shut down. Hoping traffic controllers are all there.

Son and DIL got a British airways flight that leaves Heathrow in about 5 minutes

I think they had an angel watching over them.

I had a heavenly chat with Mac’s sister. I am sure I mentioned here that she flew 20 years each with pan am international and then delta.

Son txtd me maybe 15 minutes later they’d gotten seats on the BA flight but it was odd because people in line ahead of them had been turned away because the flight was full. Scott had no idea I’d “chatted” with his aunt.

    1. Logan is doing construction and the runways are limited, and with an active breeze it causes even more limitation since they need to try to avoid cross winds.

  8. This is definitely the chilliest day of the season so far. Tomorrow a bit cooler still?

Hard to believe 80s again for the weekend and much of next week.

    1. It’s really not going to get that far into the 80s. It’s going to reach the upper70s to lower 80s in parts of the region over a few days, and that’s not unusual at all for early October. All the record highs are in the upper 80s for that stretch of time. They will not be threatened.

  9. pj, I got your message from this morning. Thank you.

I am passing along all of the message to my tech dude so he can check into it, but so far nothing has been found with the local server that would be causing the oddities. Hopefully whatever is going on gets cleared up soon.

I suspect it’s an “update gone awry”.

    1. 62 here and absolutely yummy out. I just came in.
I mean it is BEAUTIFUL out there and the temperature is PERFECT, for me anyway. 🙂

    1. Oops! Today is only the 1st! Hopefully there will be no game tomorrow. Hope I didn’t jinx.

  10. Yankees bullpen could not get the job done last night. Wasted a great first postseason start as a Yankee for Max Fried. The other thing you load the bases and have Chapman on the ropes with no outs in the bottom of the 9th and could not score a run.

    1. Frustrating loss. Hopefully they can rebound with Rodon on the mound tonight. Anything can happen in Game 3 but need to get there first.

    2. We have several Yankee fans here. I wish both teams games they are proud of ….win or lose.

  11. Mark why take Max Fried out of the game when he was dealing is my question. He could not have gotten two more outs with nobody on base.

    1. Totally agree. I hate when Boone does that. Likely wouldnt have mattered though as you cant win many games when you only score 1 run.

  12. UPDATE ON THE ERROR MESSAGES………

The problem has been identified and lies within the database on THIS side, not the WordPress site.

My tech is going to be creating a new database and transferring everything there. When that happens, you will notice nothing except that the problem has been corrected – in other words nobody has to do anything. In the mean time, there will be some quirky behavior like what we’re seeing today. This may take up to several days to accomplish as he’s in the middle of some major projects for work, but it will be done ASAP. 🙂

    1. Please thank you tech guy. We definitely understand that these things take time. Meanwhile and do far, we can still get here

  13. CPC starting to back off a tad on the warm pattern. This trend will probably continue as most of the time it looked like it’d warm up, it would get shorter-lived and the cool shots would take over again. Already seeing some signs of this on the medium range, however I still do agree with the general idea WxW mentioned yesterday about the Pacific air keeping us from a persistent cool pattern.

We do, however, have a pretty warm stretch ahead late this week to early next week. However, it’s nothing out of the ordinary and we’ll miss the record high temps by a considerable margin on all of the days during the stretch.

There’s been some chatter about Boston setting record highs in the upcoming stretch, and I still exceedingly disagree with that notion.

Here are the forecast high temps for Boston and the existing records for the dates of the upcoming warm stretch…

    October 3…
    Forecast: 70
    Record: 85 in 1922

    October 4…
    Forecast: 75
    Record: 86 in 2007

    October 5…
    Forecast: 77
    Record: 87 in 1922

    October 6…
    Forecast: 77
    Record: 86 in 1990

    October 7…
    Forecast: 77
    Record: 90 in 1963

Yeah, no records threatened…not even close.

  14. I was just watching the Bermuda webcam’s. Gusting 50+ mph. No big deal for them. We are so lucky nothing to threaten us hopefully till next summer.

  15. Thanks Tk ! I found you guys lol . Go Sox !! I hade a tv conflict tonight as my favorite 3 Chicago shows start at 8pm & I can’t miss them .

  16. As I watch and really do hope the best for both teams, I am not a fan of being nasty. Blocking tickets for Boston and other areas is poor sportsmanship imo .

  17. Much like thou shall not verify a forecast before a storm as ended, thou shall not make premature tee times before the playoff series has ended. 🙂 🙂

      1. That was for TK in response to his earlier prognostication about what the Yankees would be doing tomorrow.

  18. Of the 20 previous teams to lose Game 1 in a best-of-three Wild Card Series prior to this year, just four had forced a Game 3, like the Guardians and Yankees did — and all did so at home. The 2020 A’s and Padres both completed the comeback, while the 2022 Mets and 2024 Brewers did not.

  19. I think the Sox overachieved to win 89 games

I think the best pitcher in baseball won them game 1 and while they could have done a couple things better tonight, they had a chance to win in spite of their starter not going 3 innings.

If they can win tomorrow, it will be a massive upset to have won this series.

The Sox lineup vs the Yankees lineup comparison is laughable. Each Yankee has hit close to or more than 20 HR’s.

Now we’re down to 1 starter (Crochet). Bello hasn’t been himself the last month and Giolito is injured. They were the 3 who propelled you in the regular season.

Lose tomorrow and I think the Sox season has been a wild success. Win and the Yankees should never live it down losing to this Sox team and that would be sweet. This isn’t the Ortiz/Manny/Pedro Sox or the Mookie Betts and co 2018 team.

    1. Nick Eaton and Romy Gonzalez and Nick Sogard are all gutsy, hustling, full of effort players, but when they make up 1/3rd of your lineup, well …. And then Cedanne, just never throw him a strike and most times, he’ll swing at stuff off the plate and Narvaez has been a nice add from the Yankees but, he doesn’t instill a great fear, so that’s 5/9 of your lineup.

  20. Son and DIL landed in Boston about an hour ago. They will head to n Maine to get their pup at DILs dads.

Oh to be young again ❤️

  21. It appears that the problem has been fixed. The site should function normally again.

    1. I woke up to all of yesterday’s comments! I too was able to read the forecast discussion but got nothing but error messages afterwards, and I couldn’t figure out how to post to report it.

      (Thank you for the forecast/discussion!)
