Tuesday November 11 2025 Forecast (8:48AM)

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 11-15)

The large scale pattern now features a “Greenland Block” set-up with high pressure over the ice block super-sized island, forcing colder air into the northeastern US along with a series of disturbances. Today is Veteran’s Day and I’d like to thank any veterans reading for their service! Veteran’s Day ceremonies outside today will be met with a gusty breeze and below normal temperatures today as we are in a strong westerly air flow behind a cold front. Enough instability and cold air combines for a few light convective showers developing in our area and/or migrating this far from the Great Lakes. Precipitation will be insignificant, but for some areas the first snowflakes of the season will be seen. The next disturbance comes our way via the Great Lakes Wednesday, and while upper levels cool to produce a mainly cloudy day as the trough passes overhead, the surface temps will moderate a little with a southwesterly breeze. Spotty very light rain (maybe brief mix if early enough and far enough inland) can occur, but for the most part it will be the cloudiness that’s dominant and not the precipitation. Thursday will be today junior with a gusty breeze, a chill, and maybe a passing sprinkle or snow flurry, and Friday will be a similar but with a slightly lower chance of a sprinkle or flurry, mainly in higher elevation areas. Saturday will feature fair weather with high pressure in control to start the weekend.

TODAY (VETERAN’S DAY): Clouds with intervals of sun. A brief snow flurry or sprinkle of rain possible, favoring higher elevations north and west of Boston. Highs 40-47. Wind W 10-20 MPH, gusts 25-35 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 27-34. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. A touch of light rain possible anywhere at times, even some early-day mix may occur mainly north of I-90. Highs 47-54. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 33-40. Wind W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. A brief passing rain/mix shower possible. Highs Highs 45-52. Wind NW 10-20 MPH, higher gusts.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 28-35. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. A slight chance of a passing sprinkle/flurry (if early enough). Highs 44-51. Wind NW to N 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 26-33. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 43-50. Wind NW 5-15 MPH, diminishing.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 16-20)

Blocking pattern stays in place but shifts orientation eastward slightly during the course of this period. Initially, a system will head east southeast through the Northeast in a west northwest air flow and can bring some light snow/mix/rain to the region to end the weekend on November 16, with some unsettled weather potentially lingering into November 17 if the system is strung out enough as it moves underneath blocking high pressure to the north. Fair weather dominates the middle of next week but toward the end of the period low pressure heads for the Great Lakes and brings clouds and maybe a precipitation chance back to the region at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 21-25)

No changes to this part of the outlook with expected main storm track into Great Lakes and a bit milder pattern for our region. But any storms that track into the G.L. need to be watched for redevelopment southeastward or quasi-cutoff tendencies depending on the degree of atmospheric blocking still in place. So there remains some uncertainty and low confidence here.

  1. Sorry I’ve been a bit absent…

Yesterday we ran a Veterans Breakfast at work which made for a crazy (but good) day there.

I had a lot of house-related stuff to catch up on after work. Last night my son and I were busy working down at Mom’s to fulfill her wish to keep making the place look festive and happy, so it’s dressed for Thanksgiving, and that place will still host a dinner for the rest of us on Thanksgiving Day. She’ll still be there with us in her own way (and she’d be really happy knowing we’re using that nearly unending stash of Thanksgiving napkins she has – haha.

Today, my son and I are heading down to take in the Veteran’s Day parade, which marches from Central Square in Woburn about one mile south to Woburn Common, starting about 10:45 a.m. It’s always scheduled so the ceremony at the common begins at 11 a.m. on the 11th, and the ceremony lasts about 1 hour. As always, I gather a series of photographs for the local pages. Then with the rest of my day off from work today I return to project catch-up mode, and watch for snowflakes which some of us will most certainly see before the day is over.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK

36 up from low of 34. Big woof

    Ocean temp: 52 (Boston buoy)

Wordle: 6 Hanging onto to the caboose for dear life!

  3. I remember skiing at Mt. Snow on Veteran’s Day sometime in the late 60s, They had 2 complete dumps of snow storms ending the night before. (with a 3rd one to arrive the next day!) Mt. Snow was not prepared for the crowds. They had to shovel off and open additional lifts. Mid-Winter conditions that were unbelievable!!!

      1. For the trails they aren’t opening yet on the lower mountain, I’m sure they are keeping the snow guns going so they can expand to top to bottom skiing by the weekend.

  4. Thanks, TK!

    Happy Veterans Day!

Thanks to and God’s blessings upon all who have served and our active military. My Dad was Army. His brother, Navy.

Remembering the Veterans Day snowstorm in 1987. Taunton had 11″, the greatest November snowfall ever:

  5. I have read a few stories out there about a possible stratospheric warming event sometime near or after Thanksgiving up by the arctic circle.

So, something to monitor if that happens in 2+ weeks.

      1. If it takes place in a couple weeks, then might need another 10 days to 2 weeks for whatever effects that would cause.

  6. Thanks TK.

We have had flakes in the air here on and off.

Vicki, I forgot to check our low temp but it was 31F when I went to bed last night and 31F when I left the house this am at 10:30am. It’s going to be a struggle to top 40 here today.

  7. Very light snow showers throughout the Veterans Day parade & ceremony here in Woburn. Wind was biting at times but not ferocious. Turnout was excellent – Woburn always shows up. 🙂

Eyeing a potential G4 solar storm and depending on the timing of arrival of CME brings the potential for naked-eye-visible aurora tonight (target time 10PM to 1AM). Will be monitoring. Sky should be partly cloudy to mostly clear.

      1. It’s only November 11. We can’t see individual events that clearly more than just a few days out. We’ll see how things evolve over the next month and a half.

    1. Did not see any snow flakes, although I wasn’t looking out the window every moment. Was even out to the store and did not see anything.

  8. Would have loved to have been in Bridgeport, CT today

  9. More than 80 locations set new record low temps today in the Southeast, as far south as the Florida Keys!

A very well-forecast and very impressive early cold shot.

    1. I went out late afternoon to the grocery store and while it was a brief shock to the system, it soon didn’t feel nearly as bad as I feared. I did bundle up but no gloves. My hands felt fine.

I almost changed my mind about going out, but I’m glad that I went to the store as planned. 🙂

  10. Thanks, TK.

I waited about 8 months for a day like today. It was nice to be out and about.

Thank you, veterans, for your service to our country.

    1. When he returned from visiting his mom and dad in Rome, mac always brought a bottle of amarettto, sambuca and Campari in his golf bag

  11. Seems your all getting a rather potent light show tonight My Dad sent me a photo with all the different colors including BLUE!! which is Nitrogen and typically restricted way further north and the strongest storms.

  12. According to JR, the average date that Boston’s high temperature stays under 40 is November 20.

    They were 9 days early.

    1. To clarify, the average first date that they have a day that stays under 40. Their average high temp for November 20 is about 50.
