Different Every Day

12:15AM

A low pressure trough west of New England will slowly lift north northeastward through the weekend. The circulation around this will bring different weather to our region on a daily basis through Monday. Surface low pressure on the eastern side of this trough will bring wet weather to the area today. Drier air coming around the trough will put an end to the wet weather and allow for some clearing and mild weather Saturday. Cooler air and some clouds will rotate back in on Sunday as the base of the upper low makes its closest pass northwest to north of the region. Once this is beyond the region the coolest shot of air will come through on Monday but that should also be a fairly bright day.

Quickly looking ahead toward the middle of next week, with moderate to low confidence I’m looking at some cloudiness and milder weather. There may also be some wet weather trying to move in as well as there are some indications of a little battle zone between chilly air to the north and mild air to the south.

Forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

  1. I am laughing so hard right now because I am so tired. When I read “a little battle zone between chilly air to the north and mild air to the south.” I pictured cartoon clouds with boxing gloves! HAHAHAHAHA!

  2. hahahaha – thank you TK and Emily and Matt I hope you both had a long nights sleep – what a great way to wake up – with a big smile – loved your comments.

  3. Hello and thanks tk, I thought today would have featured more rain, canceled the day last night but then saw radar around 10 and saw not much rain moving in so called everyone to revive the day, have a good day everyone, ps at times the sun has been out and as I type this the sun glaring on my face 🙂

    1. Raining here – not so much as a peek of sun today. Radar seems to have rain staying west – the bulk anyway – for now. Have fun with your plans Charlie

  4. Wind just picked up and outside of my office window it is raining yellow leaves. Also just had about four huge V shaped groups of birds fly by heading south.

    1. Geese heading south means that the fall season is progressing along…as it should be! Foliage even here in Boston is starting to get going now as well. 🙂

        1. I’m guessing here maybe into first full week of November – a bit earlier than last year and year before.

        1. raining in holliston this morning and limited sun a couple of times in Uxbridge. I saw it for 2 minutes about 45 minutes ago and thought of you

  5. By the year 2020 Cali and Texas will have over 100 Electoral votes, 58 in cali and 42 in tx with Massachusetts growing far less than most,, Massachusetts will go down to 11 or 12 electoral votes and have even less power on what’s going in in this country, and yes me and my fam are moving to the south in spring of 2013, my mom and dad left a yr ago so it makes it a little easier and my brother and fam are considering to leave also in spring,, yes I’m sad 🙁 but ya gotta do what ya gotta do 🙂 thanks everyone

      1. My sister-in-law lived in Irving TX for several years and loved TX. Austin is supposed to be lovely. There was a point in time it seemed mother nature was attempting to remove TX from the map but things seemed to have settled 🙂

      2. I would think the property taxes are extremely expensive, as I believe they dont have a state income tax. So, all of those nice things they have in Texas, that I guess we dont have here, are billed to the homeowner. Good luck with that !

    1. Charlie – one of the things my business associate and I do is analyze population growth for our clients – for strategic planning purposes. We do not have clients in CA or TX so can’t give you projections for either. However, MA population is projected to continue to grow through as far as we go which is 2030. MA has the distinction of having the brain trust for a lot of the technology/software which is huge.

      1. Actually Vicky Massachusetts is growing the fastest it’s growing in 30-40yrs, if I’m not mistaken Massachusetts could be close to 7million residents by 2020 but even though it growth, the growth other parts of the country is non comparable hence why Massachusetts will lose another seat in 2020, have a great day

      2. We grow, we get busier, but we don’t widen main roads, 95 gets an accident and rt 1 becomes a parking lot, then you try to build an additional highway and everyone fights it, and today there’s a 22 mile back up outa boston back to almost foxboro, I’m just wondering are they gonna keep that 3 lanes forever? Ugh

        1. If I had faith in our politicians I’d say that a few large states should not and will not determine our political makeup. Although I know many enjoy TX like some others here I love New England – politically as well as for all it has to offer. I’m very happy you are finding a place you will be happy too and wish you the very best. The good thing is you can still stay on here 🙂

          1. What I say is if we continue to be like we have been here in Massachusetts and continue this inside the box thinking it will continue to fall back, if Massachusetts continues like this and the people continue to fight anything then by the year 2100 your great state of mass will come further down in electorally to 8 or 9 electoral votes and the country will be ruled from the south and west if we continue the way most think here,,have a good day everyone

  6. I love living here in New England and would not want to live in any other part of the country. We rarely get major hurricanes or big tornado outbreaks. As I always say give me 2 feet of snow over a hurricane or tornado anyday of the week at least my home will still be standing once the snowstorm is over.

    1. Saw that stand-out cell moving rapidly NNE. It will pass west of me but I’ll see some flashes from it.

    1. The problem with the GFS is that it keeps trying to change the pattern and delays it by 6 hours every run. 😉

  7. Some good convection is firing up south of Long Island and the Cape right now (even a little over the cape). Moving NE.

  8. Impressive 3AM thunderstorm for this time of year. I’m enjoying this overnight show. 🙂

    1. Summer night for sure ! In addition to the storms, the temps and dewpoints in SE Mass were both in the 65F to 70F range. It was July like.

  9. The models have been hinting at it and sure enough, there is an area of showers and storms in the eastern Caribbean. The winds aloft dont look to unfavorable.

  10. It looked like we were in for some pretty bad stuff for a while. The line went from NE MA to south of the tip of Long Island. I got 1.1 inches of rain from the first storm I got in a very short time just before 3. Somehow I escaped with only another .1 after that. It was also in the upper 60’s at 3am!

  11. Through the 19th or about 60 percent of October, Logan has seen nearly average temperatures (+0.4F). However, the individual days tempwise have hardly been average. There have been multiple days with +5F or higher positive anomolies, as well as multiple days of -4F or lower negative anomolies………until last night, the region was also fairly dry, as precip departures were about 1 inch below normal. (data from Taunton NWS climo section).

  12. Wow, another round of storms just shy of 4:00. I think. And .7 inch of rain added to the .51 yesterday. Nice. More vivid lightening and house shaking thunder. Very cool

    1. It is funny in the end that we ended up close to the same total overall! I guess mother nature heard me when I said I must have missed those heavy showers :).

      1. Are you in north Attleboro? I forget and yes we all needed the rain and glad we got it. It’ll be interesting to see is the 1.2ish made a difference in the Sudbury river. It has been so low since early spring that’s it worries me

        1. Which opens up another question/thought…….

it seems to me that overall, the last several months, there’s been a lot of dry stretches of weather and I’m pretty sure that there are still precip deficits across the board for the year.

So…if that trend were to continue….there can be all the cold in the world during winter, but if below normal precip trends continue, then it wont translate into appreciable snow totals.

          1. Logan, Year to date, -6.50 inches

Hartford, -4.30 inches (year to date)

Providence, -4.14 inches ( year to date)

Worcester, -2.68 inches (year to date)

Again, data from Taunton NWS climo section

                1. My husband who is usually optimistic says if we are fighting over gas and oil, just wait until we have to fight over water. He firmly believes we need to get desalinization technology underway

          2. That’s what I’ve been worried about Tom. I’ve been watching the Sudbury for the 32 years we have been living in framingham and have rarely seen it as low as it is for even a month This year as I said its been painfully low for months. And even when we get rain and it rises just a bit there is a long stretch before the next rain so it just drops down again

  13. That potent little t-storm came thru Easton last night too. I though someone was flashing their headlights down the street but then heard the thunder. Very vivid lightning, pretty cool!

    1. It’s funny isn’t it that at this time of year we first think its something other than lightening. I thought my neighbors were out with flashlights with their dog when we had the 7:00pm storm last night and even when I heard the first rumble of thunder thought it was a motorcycle.

      1. The first night of thunder with the puppy, let’s just say i am very tired today. I was outside with her at 3:15. It was not so great with the lightening :(.
