DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 6-10)

A speed-bump in our weekend in the form of showers from early to mid morning today as a more vigorous than expected disturbance wheels through with the upper trough over our region. This does give way to fair weather with a sun cloud mix taking over from north to south by later morning onward. The rest of the forecast is basically unchanged with a nice Labor Day ahead, a quick-moving trough bringing a shower threat the first part of Tuesday, then the next system in a northwest flow bringing us unsettled weather later Wednesday into Thursday. TODAY: Lots of clouds and scattered showers into mid morning then a sun / cloud mix. Highs 68-75. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 48-55. Wind N up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY – LABOR DAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 71-78. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 51-58. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Variably cloudy with passing showers possible until midday, then more sunshine. Highs 70-77. Wind W shifting to N 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clear. Fog patches interior low elevations. Lows 50-57. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Increasing clouds. Shower chance returns late-day. Highs 68-75. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely. Chance of a thunderstorm. Lows 60-67. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Possible showers. Highs 68-75. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 11-15)

High pressure moves in then overhead then offshore between September 11 and 14 with fair, cooler weather at first then a warm-up. Next disturbance brings the chance of unsettled weather by the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 16-20)

Unsettled weather episodes should be brief early and again later in the period in an otherwise mostly dry pattern with some temperature ups and downs but nothing extreme.

        My starter words have been shit lately. Only got 1 letter out of position. That is a difficult start.

    That gives me an idea. I could es
    Easily create a little wordle app where I woukd have all the possible wordle words in a file, and generate a random number that points to a word assigned to that number. I could use it each day to get my starter word. I could use a number of different la gages to do it, but would likely use power shell as use that daily at work.

    Variation. I could start with words that have not been used yet and remove it from the app each day, vastly improving chances of getting wordle in 1 guess, not that the chances are good

    I read that 1st guess hit 0.4% of the time.

    Does that sound crazy??

      1. Worst part of this woul be entering the words into a file. Maybe I can find a download?? That woukd make it pretty easy, almost trivial.

        I remember a calculus professor in collage say that the proof was trivial without ever showing us the proof. Not having any calculus in high school, this was an issue for me.

          1. I have that lost also. I’ve tried most of those if not all. I have always had two stated words. They cover all vowels. My one mostly constant is adieu. I’ll try another on rare occasions but they never help as much. I do switch around my second word occasionally also

      I guess I try to remember, particularly the vowels used in the previously day’s word and then, use at least 1 different one in the next day’s starter word.

      If the starter word yields nothing, I try to have used all the vowels by guess 2. That’s the one thing I’m consistent with. I didn’t need this approach today, though.

        Only once was I close. The day smile was the word an dI almost played it, but changed my mind and went with another word at the last minute.

  6. Speaking of snow, it doesn’t take long for northern Nunavut to cool off in response to loss of sun angle and daylight.

    Alert was 19F a couple hrs ago, now 23F

    And Resolute is 30F and reporting light snow.

        1. Well, Vicki if it wasn’t for the wild card, the Red Sox wouldn’t have been in the WS this century. I believe they haven’t actually won the division in a long, long time. The WC is an entry point to the postseason. This year will be no exception.

  9. I got Wordle in 5 today. That’s kind of a weird word when you look at it too long.

    We got a total of 0.5″ of rain yesterday and today.

    I tested a little Power Shell script with just the A words.
    Works great.

    I run the script and it selects a random word from the list.
    btw, there are still 59 A words not used.

    I could not find a down load, but was able to copy and paste the list into Excel. Close enough. 🙂

    When I get around to it, I’ll copy and pasted all of the words
    and I am in business. 🙂

    The Durrells ON PBS passport or PBS via Amazon Prime. It is HILARIOUS!!!!! about a family who moves from England to the island of Corfu, off the coast of Greece.

    I have ALL the unused words in my file and script is working perfectly. I will try using my script to select words each day and will try to remove words from the file each day.

    We’ll see how it goes. Probably a bunch of 5s and 6s a some fails as well. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. How many unused words do you have? I saw somewhere that there are currently 479 left. But, there have been a few repeats used as the solution.

      If there are 479 solutions left and no repeats, you should expect to get the solution on the first guess about 6.75 times in the next 479 days. Of course, most of them will probably be near the end of the list.

      If anyone care, the 6.75 is 479-th harmonic number:
      1/479 + 1/478 +…+ 1/1

      If the number remaining is something other than 479, you can get the expected number using this calculator:

      1. I have 1035, but I am pretty sure some of the words in this list have been used already. For example I saw nadir in the list and I know for certain that one was used. The list I got said it was the most current. ha ha ha. I used it anyway as proof of concept. Maybe I can find a more current list. 🙂

  18. I found this funny ……

    One of many posts of the flooding up in Cape Breton, now pushing 9-11 inches on a majority of the island.

    A comment said, “200 years went by fast.”

    So, I think it was called Dorian, a handful of late summers ago, was a cat 2 or 3 hurricane that tracked right at Cape Breton. In the northern jet, a strong piece of energy merged with it and created an extra tropical storm whose pressure bottomed at 920 mb right over the island.

    Island wide, with a huge wind field, they sustained 50 mph winds with hurricane force wind gusts for around 12 hrs and of course, that caused a ton of damage.

    Well, it only took another 5 or so years to see another eye opening event.

    Bizarre watching the radar the other night, yellows and some reds, it just doesn’t rain like that up there usually. Usually it’s thick mist up to steady, moderate rain. This was rain that had rates that belonged to the tropics.

      1. They’ve had a lot more very large rain events than many people realize.

        The combination of more reporting and easier travel for information has made a huge difference in our ability to hear about it, versus before all of this when such events were only learned about if a 3 inch long blurb story occurred in the corner of a newspaper page.

    I do predict though that the leaves won’t be turning nearly as early as last fall. And I bet the chill won’t be coming as fast & furious either. Fall 2025 definitely set the table for the upcoming winter 2025-26 season!

    Thank you for posting about the number of wordle words left.
    I searched and found a more updated version. Obviously I had an OLD List. Now I have 478 words left. Don’t know why we are off by 1, but I am not worried about it.

    Btw, I have read that they now repeat words occasionally that have already been used.

    Has anyone else heard that?

    1. In addition to have unused words left, this site offers some tips. In fact, it suggests abandoning what I have just done this morning. I am always behind the 8-ball. 🙂 🙂 🙂 I am still going to try it just for fun.

    1. That one started just northwest of Boston perhaps around 5pm and made it all the way to your neck of the woods.

      Gave us a good downpour while visiting our daughter in Bridgewater around 6:15 ish.
