DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 9-13)

Low pressure approaches today, passes north of our region tonight, and departs to the east Thursday. Its warm front brings us a period of rain this evening, favoring areas north of I-90. Its cold front brings showers mainly during the few hours either side of sunrise Thursday, favoring the earlier part of that window, from west to east. Humidity edges up today, goes up more quickly tonight and early Thursday, then lowers again later Thursday as a wedge of subtropical air moves through with the passing system. High pressure builds in Friday and moves across the region Saturday providing fair weather with low humidity. The high slides offshore by Sunday when humidity comes back along with some clouds and a shower chance, though much of that day does look rain-free.

TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Rain chance by late-day especially north and west of Boston. Highs 68-75. Wind variable up to 10 MPH becoming SE to S 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Cloudy evening with a period of rain, favoring north of I-90. Additional showers overnight. Areas of fog. Lows 63-70. Dew point spikes over 60. Wind S to SW up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy with shower chances early, then a sun / cloud mix. Humid morning, then drying. Highs 78-85. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to W.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 51-58. Wind W to NW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 68-75. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 46-53. Wind N under 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Sunny. Highs 66-73. Wind N to variable up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 50-57. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of a shower. Highs 71-78. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 14-18)

Above normal temperatures early next week until a front goes by between late September 15 and early September 16, returning dry and seasonable weather to the region. Shower chances with the frontal passage, otherwise a mainly dry pattern.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 19-23)

Shower chances limited, dry weather dominant. Some up-and-down temps but no extremes seen. The autumnal equinox is at 8:05 p.m. EDT on September 22.

    “may have”? How about “did”. This is what happens when we build hanging over a steep coastline that gets battered by waves on a routine basis. It’s been going on since long before we’ve been around. Let’s just keep that fact in mind. 🙂

    The reason I bring this up is that we just passed the 35 year point since our last hurricane landfall in New England, and when it happens again, with all the additional development since Bob, and the complacency caused by the long time between hits, our region is still far from prepared for what’s going to happen.

    2. After Hugo, isle of palms said it would not allow homes on the water that were taken by Hugo to rebuild. They have not only been rebuilt, but there are now new McMansions built in front of them…..even closer to the water

      My starter word got me 1 in the correct position, 2 in the wrong spot.

      2nd guess got those 2 also in the correct spot and they were all consonants.

      So, it was like, what vowel works with these 3 letters and luckily, the 3rd guess took.

    2. Nice 5. I used your word finder for my first guess. I have two starter words always. My mistake was using the wrong one for my second guess. Will play it differently tomorrow. And since I stepped out of my comfort zone, I’m just happy not to fail

    For Logan,

    today, Sept 9th, average high is 76F, low 60F

    Out to the vernal equinox on the 22nd, the avg high drops to 71F with a low of 56F.

  14. 1941 the last time the Atlantic ACE was this low.

    We currently are at a record low ACE for the satellite era, set on September 6, with only 8% of normal for the season to date.

    And as I have previously stated and will remind you here we are on the way to setting the record for the latest we have ever gone without observing a hurricane in the Atlantic. That record will be set this Friday and shattered as we go many days beyond that without one as well.

    The exceptionally quiet Atlantic hurricane season is not a surprise since they are often a product of El Niño, which is in the very strong category.

    And just as the quiet Atlantic season is typical, so is the act of Pacific season.

    Again, it is more than 10 days out.

    If this verified, its a strong, sprawling area of high pressure nearing 1,040 mb coming out of Canada, with highs in the low-mid 60s and dps in the 30s to low 40s.

  16. Noticeable change to the air from this morning.

    It’s not hot or even very warm, but it definitely feels like summer air, a heavier air for sure. There is a nice breeze though.

    1. HHH never totally leaves until after mid-October. And with El Niño all pumped up, it’s probably going to be a mild winter anyway.

  21. Good for the Pats so far.

    Everyone behind the Red Sox lost tonight, so it’s another day off the calendar. They could be making their lives even easier, they are headed to losing 2 of 3 to the Angels.

    Just means they can’t further rest their pitchers.

    Day off tomorrow, then it’s 3 vs Royals at home: they’d be wise to pitch well and get at least 2 out of 3

    They close @ Texas, @Tampa and finish at home vs Cleveland and the Cubs so 4 tough series to end the season.

  24. Upcoming stories about heat in southern California “after summer ends”. What they won’t tell you is that late August to early October is southern California’s hottest time of the year. So no, heat there is not unusual in September. 🙂

  26. I dropped my friend off at a concert tonight in the Fenway area (and picked her up after), and it was a zoo there .. concert, Sox game, and lots of people watching the Pats in sports bars. Most people would complain about the crowd and the traffic, but I have to be honest when I say I enjoyed being immersed in it all in a light rainfall. It was so “Boston”. 🙂
