DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 10-14)
A front moves offshore early today taking showers with it, the last of them moving across southeastern MA as I write this (about 7:00 a.m.). It’s a cold front, but the air is not exactly “cold” behind it. The upper air and drying surface support quite a warm day today with the aid of high pressure moving in aloft combined with a healthy downsloping westerly breeze at the surface. So today will bring the feel of mid summer, other than the sun angle now being noticeably lower than that time of year. The air does cool tonight and Friday as high pressure builds toward our region but Friday is a splendid mid September day! The high overhead allows Friday night to cool down quite a bit even though some cloudiness slides by our region. Sunshine dominates Saturday as high pressure sits atop our region – a perfect day for outdoor activities! High pressure slides offshore Saturday night and sits to our east Sunday and Monday. Shorter range model guidance has shifted to a wetter look for a portion of Sunday with lots of clouds and shower chances. I’m leaning this way, but not quite as much as the guidance is, and for only a part of the day. Timing is still to be refined but as of this update I am leaning toward pre-dawn to mid morning for the greatest Sunday shower threat, after which we’ll see at least some partial clearing and a “not-bad” day, albeit noticeably more humid. With systems a bit more pronounced, i.e. Sunday’s disturbance forming a low pressure area as it moves out, and a little more defined high pressure area coming in behind it, Monday’s weather looks fair but less humid as a little bit of Canadian air would get pulled into the region. Temperatures do remain above normal as there is not a notable delivery of cool air with that high.
TODAY: Clouds and showers depart southeastern MA first thing, otherwise sun and patchy clouds. Humidity notable but reducing later. Highs 80-87 except sub-80 particularly near the South Coast. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusts 20-25 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 51-58. Wind W to NW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 70-77. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 47-54. Wind N under 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sunny. Highs 68-75. Wind N to variable up to 10 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Clouds increase. Shower chances and fog patches pre-dawn. Lows 55-62. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Cloudy start with showers and patchy fog, then clouds break for sun by midday on. Humid. Highs 71-78. Wind S 5-15 MPH shifts to W.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 57-64. Wind NW under 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Less humid. Highs 73-80. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 15-19)
Warm but fair September 15. Shower potential early September 16 with a passing frontal system. Dry, cooler later September 16 through September 18 followed by a warm-up at the end of the period.
DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 20-24)
Shower chances early and end of period, but overall pattern is dry with up-and-down temperatures and no extremes. Autumnal equinox is at 8:05 p.m. EDT on September 22.

Same order, yesterday’s 12z run and then, today’s 00z run.
And its not just the northeast that is different at 500 mb, look just off the CA coastline at the difference.
Snow lovers beware at latching on to projected snow in the extreme long range this coming winter on a particular run. Its just as likely 12 hrs later, the models will then show sunny and 50F.

Many models with a brief, but impressive eastern US ridge next Tuesday into Wednesday.
597dm ridge, very, very impressive.
Thankfully its September and not July, else 100F would be in play. But there is also enough relatively mild air preceding it and with a much lower sun angle and under 13 hrs of sunlight, some of the ridge’s warmth is needed just to warm us back up.

I definitely don’t expect a long track, Cape Verde system.
But a washed out cold front near the east or Gulf coast or something coming out of the central America gyre, I still think something could evolve from those 2 scenarios, not to produce the above, but to produce another Eduoard, who came ashore as a pretty strong tropical storm without having much time or space to develop.

It’s 86F (30C) and sticky. In protest, I put away from fan until next year. Yes, I could use it now and possibly next week, too. But I’m sick of hearing it oscillate. And I REALLY want the humidity to disappear. I am fully aware that it’s only Sept. 10th and the muggies can very well last through parts of September. But I’m hoping for a real change soon.

Next 10 days though, the “cooler” days are likely to have average temps and then the warmer days, well above avg.
On those warmer days being well above avg, the daytime highs might contribute +6 to +10F anomalies, but it’s a couple nights that might run 15-20F above avg.

This new BZ weather cast ……. I give it 2 thumbs down.
So, now the on camera met runs it with a tablet, which they look down at from time to time, so, multiple times they lose eye contact with the viewer. Feels a lot less personable.
Then, at the start, the back wall, they like to mention how it looks in Boston. That back wall looks a million miles away and the image is small.
And finally, this 3-D kind of presentation on the floor showing satellite and radar, it’s like a planetarium on ….. the floor !?!?!? With the on camera Met having to step on it.
I may have to switch to a different channel. I’ve seen several presentations and I can’t warm up to it.
I know, I’m old, why did they change. The previous graphics were more than fine and modern, but this new thing gets a big YUCK from me.
I wonder what would happen if that tablet ever slipped out of the met’s hands and dropped on the floor?

We went to the NH Fisher Cats game tonight. The weather was perfect for a ballgame. It felt like a beautiful midsummer evening, except for the oddly early sunset.
