Weekend Update

12:36PM

A quick summary of weather events coming up…

High pressure in control this afternoon, bright but with a chilly gusty wind.

Disturbance passing through from west to east Sunday, bringing lots of clouds but will it bring any light snow? For now I’m leaning away from the daytime event and looking for a few snow showers at night as a cold front plows through the region from north to south.

Monday will be a windy and cold day with sun returning.

The well advertised moderating trend for next week will be a modest one, getting underway Tuesday and lasting through Thursday with fair weather.

Friday will mark the start of another transition in the pattern, back toward what will eventually be another period of colder and mostly dry weather, but mild air meeting moisture from the southwest that day probably means some wet weather.

Updated forecast for RI, eastern MA, and southern NH…

    1. Neither do I. Outside chance about next Sunday, IF the Euro is right. That whole transition starting Friday is not going to be handled very smoothly by models for a few days.

  1. Repost from previous blog.

AccuWeather Trivia Quiz. I believe the quiz answers (WBZ) might be incorrect. In fact Joe Joyce who presented the quiz had a weird look on his face when he read the question and the answers. In addition, the first time he posted the question on TV it was worded so poorly I couldn’t understand it and then someone tried to correct the English the second time he showed it and I think he was still uncomfortable.

I believe the answer is 193 years (not 193 days as he showed it). Years=93,000,000 miles/55mph/24hours/365 days = 193 years. Working it backwards, it would be 193 yrs x 365 days x 24 hours per day x 55mph = 93 million miles.

    1. Makes sense and thanks Longshot. It sure was fun and gave us a lot to talk about. Now I am swearing everyone to silence. My SIL cannot know a thing

  2. since there is boring (warmer weather) comming
    wild card games
Seattle 34, washingtion 31 . Last minute touchdown by seattle. i hope washingtion wins.
    packers 14 vickings 17 . 2 minute field goal
    texans 24 bengals 14
    colts 10, ravens 21

    divisional playoffs
    atlanta 12 seattle 17
    vikings 17 49ers 14
baltimore 34 denver 31. over time field goal
    new england 28 texans 25
    afc conferance
    baltimore 14, patriots 42
    nfc conferance
seattle 27, vikings 21 last minute touchdown pass
    super bowl
    seattle vs new england.

This was based on Madden. on auto.

    1. Well i was wrong about the vikings pulling the upset but thats also because of their back up quarterback playing. i was right about the texans though. lets see about todays games. again with the seattle game i think last minute feild goal but either one of the teams but madden has seattle winning by an interception and then a last minute feild goal.

  3. Thanks tk, hopefully we get rain to wash away all the white salt, have a good afternoon everyone 🙂

    1. Charlie you crack me up. I had to go look out the window to see if we have white salt. I would never have noticed.

      1. How can u not notice? It’s dirty it makes my cars dirty, it makes bridges look rusty. Anyways love snow hate cold and hate dirty white salt 🙂

        1. I’m too busy looking at the snow in the yards and fields and the sky and all the other beautiful things of winter I guess

  4. Thanks, TK.

I have a non-weather related question. I like to cook. For the past several months most every time I open a box of pasta (doesn’t matter what brand, what kind or what store it came from) I notice a strong sweet smell – almost like perfume. The smell is even on the pasta. I wrote to two different companies and all they could do was say they didn’t know what the problem could be and they sent me some free coupons. I have thrown out more boxes of pasta – maybe 2 out of 10 have no odor. Such a waste – and I love pasta. Anybody else notice this problem?? Thanks.

    1. I haven’t noticed but we tend to get the fresh (if you can call it that). I asked my daughter. They eat tons of pasta. But she hasn’t noticed Is it all from the same store?

      1. Two different stores – both popular supermarkets. Sudbury and Framingham. Up until several months ago, I never noticed anything. And you can tell if a box doesn’t have an odor – there’s no odor. But when there is, there is! My mother notices the odor but she makes it anyway. Maybe I’m too fussy – but I will say that the quality of all food, produce, meat, packaged, etc. has gone downhill and the prices have gone uphill! 🙁

        1. I’ve never noticed a “perfumy” scent, but pasta does have a distinctive smell, as does rice. Have you tried different brands? I tend to buy store brand (Market Basket and Hannaford, primarily), Prince, or Barilla. I opened a new box of spaghetti last week and it didn’t smell differently than it normally does, which is to say, it didn’t smell like perfume 🙂 I’m curious to know why your pasta smells different! Once, in my old car, a bottle of fabric softener leaked out onto the carpeting of my trunk; could something like that have happened to you?

    2. I have noticed a difference either Rainshine. We go through tons, all Barilla, but no difference in smell recently.

    2. Gotta love the influence of that snowcover. 🙂
      Refrigerant right on the ground…

The NAO may go so negative we get really cold and stay quite dry. This would verify both mine and BB’s long range for January I do believe. Hoping for it!

      1. Thanks for the forecast, TK. TK, I’m not sure why you don’t run your own weather station on TV. I’m serious. While all of us, myself included, believed in the major warm-up (as well as many of the major weather networks), you stuck to your guns. Looking at the models now I’m encouraged by what I see. Yes, some warmer weather, but 50s will be hard to reach, and the frost-free period will likely be limited to 2 or 3 days.

    1. Alot of the snowcover has simply evaporated, or sublimated, during this week. Not even that much melting. Very little water running off anywhere. A clear sign it’s just vaporizing. 🙂

  5. For a different view on Global Warming:

HEY CHINA WHERE IS THE GLOBAL WARMING

    http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/AS_CHINA_COLDEST_WINTER?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2013-01-05-07-52-05

    News from The Associated Press
    hosted.ap.org
BEIJING (AP) — China is experiencing unusual chills this winter with its national average temperature hitting the lowest in 28 years, and snow and ice have closed highways, canceled flights, stranded tourists and knocked out power in several provinces.

  6. If you don’t think man is contributing to just 1% of global warming, I’m not sure what to say, anyways just watching NFL playoffs, Go Patriots!!

    1. Charlie,

I’m with you. There are certainly cycles, but Man is clearly adding something
on top of that. There is simply no denying that. I just wish there was a way to measure exactly what man is contributing.

  7. I believe that as close as the year 2100 getting March snow will be like getting April snow 2012, we can still call it cycles but I think it’s both global warming and cycles so it will be tough for each side to agree

    1. There have been a whole lot of record cold/snowy winters in parts of Europe and Asia since the 1990s. Watch Western Europe, already getting colder and snowier winters more often than they have since the 1800s, or the Charles Dickens period, during a very cold period of winters in western Europe as a result of a pattern known as the Dalton Minimum. We’re heading toward another.

      1. It’s truly impossible to say man is not contributing to global warming at least 1%, really it’s impossible, hope all is well 🙂

  8. The 00z runs of the GFS & Euro are so completely different for 00z Tuesday January 15 it’s laughable. Which one will win the battle?

  9. Good morning, light snow and 30 degrees in East Bridgewater. Roads are white, crews heading out to treat, be careful if your driving.

  10. AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

For a thaw, how many consecutive days must the temperature remain above 32 degrees?

    A. 3
    B. 5
    C. 7
    D. 10

  11. The Charlie line by the end of the day will be working its way north and west to just west of Boston down quincy down through Brocton south to Taunton and working wnw, by midweek it will be approaching between 128 and 495 belts, wondering what that will do to high temps if they will be consistently closer to 50 for highs while central mass is colder with a shallow snow cover

    1. NHL ??????? Oh yeah, I remember them. With the exception of Boston and Canada teams, will be interesting to see game attendances.

      1. I come from a big football family so we never got into hockey, we used to play football 6 on 6 back when I was a kid on the ponds haha, it used to be so much fun,

        1. Charlie, I want the Pats to win …… similiarities to 2 years ago ….. Pats had bye. Jets came in for divisional round, Patriots had smoked them in regular season and then Jets won the playoff game. Pats smoked Houston a few weeks back and here they come for the divisional playoff game. Should we be concerned ?

          1. I’m concerned. I saw a Houston team get a little of its swagger back, esp on defense. If the Pats offense goes stale like it has been known to do against these types of teams in the playoffs, we could be looking at an early exit. Everyone wanted Houston, but to me, that’s the last team we want coming in here.

            1. I think they only looked like they regained swagger because they were playing a defense that was tired with an offense that was just a little less tired.

Houston is in trouble against the Patriots. 🙂

              1. I don’t agree. With the Patriot’s history, this is exactly the type of game that “could” get away from them. I’m not predicting a loss by the Pat’s. I’m just saying it is NOT going to be the blowout like last time. They may even just barely squeak out a win. We shall see.

Hope I am wrong and it is another blow out.

One good thing, the Gronk is back! 😀 😀

                1. 🙂

Well, that’s why they play the games on the field and not on paper. Anything can happen. 🙂

            2. My point was that the Patriots have been the #1 team for 35 yrs and then the celtics a distant 2nd, the other 2 teams never mattered 🙂

      2. I don’t remember the Buckner play but remember bird and remember the bears killing the patriots in sb in 85, and don’t remember a lick of hockey, my childhood was all Patriots and Celtics and the bruins and redsox were left for dead in my fam, it’s very weird but very true, my whole family is like that 🙂

        1. My childhood was all Red Sox and then rangers for obvious reasons. I am not a fan of any baseball now as I believe it is far from what it once was. I remember Buckner and was revolted by the criticism and blame the followed. One of the reasons for Williams love and mostly hate for Boston fans

  12. Thanks for all the replies re: pasta issue. I buy Barilla, Ronzoni and Prince pasta. I keep my pasta in a clean, dry cupboard w/cans of soup, vegs., etc. Not near anything w/odors. And I notice the odor as soon as I bring the pasta home from the store – one thing I haven’t done is bring the pasta back to the market and have them smell it! I would feel silly but I could try. They prob’ly wouldn’t do anything about it, anyway.

Weather-wise, we got a very light coating of snow overnight and skies are starting to clear. Snow is evaporating – and I find it difficult to see temps. much above 40 degrees during the week.

    1. I wonder if it has anything to do with recycled cardboard being used for boxes. But then again why would it just be pasta that is affected?

I think bringing it back would give you a short-term result like a refund but probably calling the companies may get you more action.

      1. I did that – to two different pasta companies. They said they would look into it. Never heard anything, ‘though. But they did send me some coupons for free pasta. Which I used – and some boxes still had an odor.

        1. I thought about the possibility of recycled cardboard, too. Haven’t noticed in on anything else, ‘though. I don’t generally go around sniffing packages when I come home for the market (except for fresh meat to make sure it’s ok). The pasta just really has a strong odor when I opened the box. Husband noticed it, too. Well, if everyone else is using it and are fine, guess it’s ok! 🙂 and thanks for reply.

    2. Rainshine we buy Barilla when we get dry and my kids do as well. Do you notice the smell in all of them? That is so,odd and we will be checking in the future. I meant to ask my other daughter and niece last night when they were here and forgot. Ill txt them. I am sure the stor would reimburse you but I bet I wouldn’t take it back either.

PS not related to pasta but have you tried the new stop and shop at wayland crossing across com Russell’s. Its smaller than most S&S but we like it. It’s going to be a nice area when complete

      1. Vicki, no, the smell isn’t there in every box. I would say 80% of the time. My mother noticed the smell but said it was just the packaging and ate it anyway. I haven’t noticed any smell like that it any of my other food.

And yes, we have been to the new Stop and Shop. It is smaller than the others but it is nice. We go to Sudbury Farms a lot, but it’s nice to have another store close by and smtms. Stop and Shop can be cheaper in some things.

Now – onto my soapbox. With the economy not that great, why open up so many stores? As a person out of work, I think it is great to be creating new jobs. I am all for it. I hope these stores and shops succeed, because it would be a shame to have them close due to lack of business. And to think of all that space that could have been just stayed a natural environment.

        1. Rainshine. We have said the same thing. We don’t know how they will fill all the stores they have. And as far as building to build, I’d rather see the land stay clear. I am being somewhat selfish in that we really dislike Sudbury farms and the other stop and shops etc are not really clean so we generally went to Sudbury which ends up costing $25 or far more for us a week than the new S&S That would bring me to my rant about Big buisiness and no one wants to hear that 🙂

  13. A light dusting here in JP.

Wow that NAO looks negative, can you say storms will be shunted south? Lets see what happens with the PV, that can be a major player in how far north storms get moreso than the NAO.

  14. Had to take a few more degrees off Thursday’s high temps. Might barely make 40 and probably on the windy side as well.

  15. Euro still shows some significant warmth next week. Will be interesting to see
how it plays out. Down the road it sure looks to get COLD. If it’s going to keep storms
to the South, then I’d rather it stay mild than get cold for nothing. 😀
But, I don’t have any say in the matter, do I? 😀

btw, I looked at the NWS overnight observations. I saw some visibilities down to
as low as 1.25 miles in a few spots. The lowest at Logan was 1.75 miles.

NHL lockout ends as new CBA struck

The NHL lockout finally ended early on Sunday after the NHL and its players agreed to a tentative collective bargaining agreement.

“We have reached an agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement,” commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters early Sunday morning. “I want to thank Don Fehr. We still have more work to do, but it’s good to be at this point.”

The deal was struck after both sides some final moves off their previous stances. The owners moved on the maximum length of contracts and the 2013-14 salary cap, while the players moved from their stance on the length of the CBA to meet the owners.

According to TSN, the details of the new CBA include a 10 year length with an opt-out clause that begins after eight years, contracts no longer than seven years (or eight for a team signing its own player) and a $64.3 million salary cap for the 2013-14 season.

TSN reports that the league has both 48-game and 50-game schedules drawn up that will be played depending on when the new CBA is finalized.

  17. The NHL lockout looks to be officially over. The deal just needs to be put in writing. Looks to be a 10 year deal. Shooting for January 19th for season to start. It’s embarrassing to the league that it got this far, shame on them. I can’t wait till Jacobs steps down. He could have cared less on the outcome. He cares more about the vendor income than his own team. I’m happy for all the bars that depends on hockey for there winter income. Anyways go Bruins.

    1. I don’t know why they don’t just make it a Canada league, most of the United States people do not care about hockey, that’s the problem

    2. I can remember just 5 yrs ago when the bruins couldn’t put 15,000 people in the seats, hockey is in trouble and it’s bc most cities in this country we call America don’t care about the sport fact not opinion 🙂

        1. Of course John but just like football, everytime I go outa town most don’t even care for hockey, America as a whole is a football country, I’m glad it’s my sport that’s all 🙂

  18. Charlie, just drove into Mt Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge since tomorrow is my mom’s angel day. We did a snow check on the way and a salt check on the roads as well. I’m not sure where the Charlie line runs in Metrowest. We went through Wayland, Weston, Newton, Cambridge, and into the Bedroom communities (Watertown, Belmont, Arlington, Lexington) and back on the other side of Weston and Wayland.

Mt Auburn has a consistent minimum of 2.75 inches with more in many locations. We didn’t measure the other communities but would say comfortably they are the same for the bedroom communities and then it builds when you get further into metrowest to a 4 inch cover in Framingham.

As far as salt – we didn’t see any trace of white on Pike, 128, Route 2 or side roads.

  19. The question I have is how much snow do u need to move temps colder, I have about an inch to an inch in a half and I’m thinking in a couple days we will be bare, will this make temps warmer in costal plain than far inland where theres a snowpack?

  20. Happy the NHL lockout is over. Its a shame it went on as long as it did but at least the whole season wont be lost.
If we get the cold the second half of the month and no snow its a total waste.

  21. Noon Obs at Logan = 40 Degrees and climbing.

Although it may be somewhat colder tomorrow, Some warmth returns for
Tuesday and Wednesday. I see the snow GONE in at least coastal areas
by end of Day Wednesday, if not sooner. 😀 🙂

It is going fast. Were out last night and notice much melt water on the
sides of streets, which of course were freezing while we were out.

      1. Solid 4 to 5 inch snowcover here in Woburn, down from the 7.8 that fell in the storm.

Going sledding again today with my son as the snowcover on the hill will become deficient for that activity during the next several days.

        1. There’s about 1-2 inches across the coastal plain then jumps to 4-5 from around 128 north and west, by Tue the coastal plain will be bare from Boston to Providence

        1. We’ll still have a few inches on the ground Tuesday, but by the weekend it will be gone except patches in the shaded areas.

    1. It’s melting big time here. Got the game on, company coming, clean house and a huge roast cooking in the oven. It’s a good Sunday.

      1. Just went to Wellesley to pick up a roast at Dewars butcher. Must be that kind of day. Also grandson likes the idea of who roast beast. Enjoy John. I have a great gremolita run and gravy recipe if you are ever interested

        1. Someone told me to rub with flour, which I did.and the usual garlic powder and s/p. Whole onions around it.

        2. If you mean rum, I don’t drink. My roast was unbelievable and extreamly tender, not sure if the flour did it.

      1. Not much in relation to the Pats. We play Houston no matter what. I just think Indy vs Denver next week would be an intriguing matchup. Plus, i despise Ray Lewis and the Ravens. So far, this game is a huge snoozefest.

    1. Central mass has more snow, in as little as 48hrs there will be the bare ground line and I think it’s going to be around 128/495 belt and pushing into central mass as we go late in this week towns like Milford, hopkington could be also bare, watching nfl playoffs 🙂

  22. I know its the midatlantic, but a playoff game in jan should be cold! i should be able to see the players breath and steam coming off the lineman’s heads on the sideline. Its 55 deg in baltimore at gametime, unbelievable. Next sundays pats game looks warm too, there goes the elements advantage

    1. Patriots Texans look like great football weather, temps look like around 40 at kickoff and mid 30’s for game end, it’s like Oct/Nov 🙂

  23. If we were to define winter as a time period during which a majority of days had highs of 35 or lower, with at least one snow event during that period, then I would submit winter will be on hiatus in the northeast USA for at least 2 weeks. The 12z EURO doesnt seem to inspire cold thoughts anywhere near us 10 days from now.

      1. I was hoping Houston would have to play in extremely cold weather ……… not average Houston weather in New England in mid January. 🙂

  24. Seems the concensus today was 40F ….. Logan’s 43F. I think yesterday’s high temps exceeded expectations. Tomorrow’s concensus seems to be around 34F, anyone surprised if it ends up being 37F or 38F ?

        1. Hope Redskins win, but also hoping for an exciting, close game. I’ve found the first 3 games to be somewhat boring.

  25. Took down all Christmas decorations, inside and out and put them away for storage. Outside, did the work in a light sweatshirt, it was so MILD! 😀

    1. We took down the tree. I think it may be Last week January before inside is down and I like to leave lights in the bushes and along gutter to turn on when it snows. I am hopeless I know but just love the decorations.

    1. Imagine, Brady vs RGIII in the Super bowl?

I think Brady could teach the kid a few things! 😀

  26. Ok Old Salty, maybe you’re not gonna get your 50+ at midweek across most of the area but I may give it to you for next weekend! Whether you believe the Euro or GFS about the onset of cold near or after mid month, it looks pretty toasty around here next weekend and maybe even just beyond. That’s sure going to put a DENT in my below normal temp forecast for January! Like last year, some of the things I forecast are happening, some are not. I may be a month too fast in my forecast this year in terms of the colder onset, but I did miss the December temp by a couple degrees. Hey even the great Dr. Cohen was only partially right. Plenty of COLD AIR in Siberia. It’s just not coming down into the Lower 48 so easily. It’s going the other way!

    1. 😀

I know it is a different pattern than last year, but here we go again.
Cold is promised. Cold is delayed. Cold Promised. Cold delayed yet again.
Before we know it, it’s Spring. Perhaps Tom is right after all.

      😀

      1. It certainly is a different pattern… That is very true.

But this is a good example of how 2 different patterns can have a similar result. I say similar, because it is already notably cooler than last year (late Autumn to early Winter) and MOST areas have had more snow.

        1. It’s only early January and there is time for sure.
Interesting that this is happening though. 😀

            1. I agree with the cycles ….. similar to the stock market …… Ups and downs, but over a long period of time, the overall trend is slowly up.

  27. * Regarding decorations/lights. Tonight is the final night we put our lights on, though we limit it down to just the outside lights and the inside lights and Christmas trees (1 real and several artificial trees including 2 ceramic ones). The window lights have gone largely dark except the kitchen downstairs and the den upstairs. I think I’ll let the outside stuff sit until the weekend when we’ll have lost the snowcover and get some very mild air. I’ll get it all down and in between Saturday & Sunday. Last year was an easy take-down, but the year before, not-so-easy. I think some of the stuff was out there until March!

    * A blanket of stratocumulus clouds has shown up in the evening twilight across the western and northern horizon. This marks a cold front which will advance across the region tonight, largely unnoticed, except for the gusty northerly breeze that will pick up in the overnight hours. This front will make tomorrow a rather chilly day.

    1. Our wiseman have reached the manger. My grandson has been moving them ever so slightly since Christmas. I should clarify that I do out away any santas. But I have decorations set up so snowmen and snow cottages replace the santas and reindeer and sleighs. So I move to a winter theme. Growing up with so much time spent in ski country I got very used to seeing lights up all winter. I’ve noticed many now do the same. There is nothing more lovely than lights with snow on the. The two air blows and the Santa and sleigh and reindeer etc all go away. Winter. Not Christmas. It’s a continuation of the magic of the season :))

      1. I love the idea and have a few similarities here. One of the things I do is hang red satin/felt bulbs in the diamond shaped lattice things that sit in my triple kitchen window and I switch them over to white now and they look like snowballs.

There are a few other winter remnants that hang around for quite some time yet. Things shift to a more Valentines Day look for February then to a St. Pat’s Day look by early March. This year, Easter decorations will go up the day after St. Pat’s Day since Easter is in March. I guess for April I’ll have to play up Earth Day or something. 😀

        1. We are spending march in Humarock and won’t have a lot of space to take Easter decorations. That may pose a bit of a problem but ill figure it out :). I love the picture of the red and them white ribbon in the lattice.

  28. TK if it is warm next weekend we wouldn’t mind. If it isn’t raining that would be lovely. It’s Saturday night we are spending at the Charles in Harvard square and we are hoping to do a lot of on foot exploring 🙂

    1. SIL was telling me about red skins. He said they are an excellent team and explained why. I like watching when I know some of the info. He thinks they’ll win today and next game. He thinks SB will be pats and 49ers. We will see

  29. The models are driving me nuts. Yesterday they seemed to back off the warmth coming, now they’re on board. If my theory of inverse weather patterns between here and the Netherlands verifies, we’re in for a long stretch of mild weather, which could indeed pretty much nullify this winter. Holland has just experienced a 2-3 week period of well above normal temperatures with lots of rain and no frost at all (note the contrast with our weather; this is like clockwork, folks). That is about to change, beginning Wednesday. And once that pattern sets in, it locks in for 2-3 weeks. There is very little day-to-day changeability in the weather in Holland and in most of Europe, really. The Siberian cold in mitigated form will be ushered into Western Europe as an almost stationary High builds over Scandinavia. It may not budge for weeks. As I have said before on this blog, without knowing the reasons why what I do know is that is not good news for Southern New England, or really the entire Eastern Seaboard. Remember, this is what happened last February.

  30. I don’t see alot of precip over the next 10 days but I also don’t see much cold air, I think alot of eastern Mass are close to 50 degrees, also nights over the next 7-10 days don’t look to get below 30 degrees, will see what late Jan brings, what’s Logan at?

  31. Answer to AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

For a thaw, how many consecutive days must the temperature remain above 32 degrees?

    A. 3
    B. 5
    C. 7
    D. 10

According to Joe Joyce, it is C.

  32. I feel bad for Hadi ….. Now that Seattle has just gone ahead, I think with RGIII hobbled, they might have to use the backup QB. There’s just no threat of him running to keep the Seattle D honest.

    1. SIL,has been saying since first quarter RGIII should have Been taken out. He says that this sits on shannahans shoulders. I feel so badly.

      1. SIL says the cousins has performed this year when in and he’d be comfortable with him on for PATS, Tom

        1. I know I sound like a parrot saying SIL says……but he has such a grasp of all teams. He has been also saying if cousins had gone on when he should have they could be winning.

        2. I havent seen him play, but understand he helped them win a road game against Cleveland, I think. Well, we’re about to find out.

The way that knee twisted, I hope thats not a long, long term recovery.

          1. Try just had cousins stats. They are very good. Tom I agree about the way his leg twisted. I hope RGIII has not done serious damage. Hadi thank you for getting me interested in this team. It’s great fun to watch

    1. That’s what my SIL has been saying. He’s just about as livid as he is when something goes wrong with pats and is curtains shanahan (sp)

      1. OMG the air is blue here Hadi. You’d think it was the pats. Apparently they should have run the ball on 3 and 14. And then throw. I’m going to go have a glass of wine now 😀

    1. Charlie’s snowcover line will be 300 miles north of Caribou, ME …. The Boston Harbor water temp will warm back up to 50F …… they’ll need those cooling fans on both sidelines for the Pats and Texans ….. and yet, the GFS will insist it will be arctic cold in a couple of weeks. 🙂

      1. Not sure i buy that. I think this winter is going to be warm. I did not think this way in the fall. The pattern over all has just been two warm. I have not seen many winter that have started warm and then cold. That’s why I believe it will be warmer overall any cold will be short lives, by that I mean a week or less followed by warmth

        1. I respectfully disagree. Yes we have a warm-up the end of the week, but this will be short lived. Look for things to drastically change towards months end and even more for February with a few big snow events. For anybody that thinks the rest of winter will be a walk in the park, well I just don’t think so. February will be tracking one storm after the other.

      2. Right now though the bare ground line does run from Boston south along 93 then south along rt3 until Plymouth then cuts southwest across carver to New Bedford and that line is slowly moving north and west, across most of the i95 corridor from boston to providence has light snow cover, as u go west of i95 it gets a little thicker but even there it will be bare ground by late this week so get your sledding in while u can 🙂

  33. I wonder what will end up higher next Sunday …..

Pats/Texans total points or the day’s high temp at Logan ??? Tough call, both offenses should be able to score a lot on these defenses.
