Columbus Day Weekend Forecast

8:21PM

High pressure to the north, finally winning the battle with low pressure to the south, will make for a pretty nice Columbus Day Weekend around southeastern New England, though abundant low cloudiness and possible drizzle will impact parts of the region, especially coastal NH and much of eastern MA, on Saturday. By Sunday, drier air will have worked into the region, eliminating most of the cloudiness. The holiday itself on Monday also looks great. And after some damp chill near the coast to start the weekend out, the overall trend will be for mild air to dominate.

A peak into next week shows a mild first half of the week with a cold front bringing a change at the very end of the week.

Updated forecast for southeastern New England…

OVERNIGHT: Variable high & middle clouds. Lows in the 40s. Wind light NE.

SATURDAY: Low clouds roll in from the northeast covering most of southeastern NH and eastern MA and a little less coverage with some sun other areas. Highs around 60. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Low clouds break up from northeast to southwest. Lows in the 40s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny but still some passing clouds at times. Highs in the 60s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.

  1. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What was the weather like during the first voyage of discovery by Columbus?

    A. Frequently rainy
    B. Hurricanes nearby
    C. Loaded with lightning
    D. Pleasant & peaceful

    Answer later today.

      1. Pleasant & peaceful, not in your life.

It’s either frequently rainy or hurricanes nearby or both.

I’m going to say ‘A’, frequently rainy.

Lets see how brutally wrong I am. πŸ˜€

  2. What a week at work and next destined to be as bad. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Hey, not looking good for the Pat’s. I’ve been hearing horror stories about the Gronk.
Doesn’t look like he is going to play on Sunday.

I really feel badly for Brady, Karft and BB has screwed him over big time. Shame on them!!!

    1. And it’ll be Brady who takes the hit with people who don’t understand saying he’s going downhill. Me thinks we protested a bit too much when Hadi criticized BB

  3. Agree it’s krafts fault and the coaches. I don’t mean too sound like a broken record but why on earth would you let welker walk, why. He was the the biggest loss out of them all. And what do they give Brady in exchange taking a gamble with rookies who may or may not produce. And this year we no the answer is no production at all. And it’s too bad because the defense has been groomed and even that now may go down because of injuries. They need a good scout like pioli was and Kraft spend some money on your team instead of on establishments. Brady is a great quarterback but can not do it alone. It’s going to be a tough game tomorrow as they play a real good club.

    1. I am not as convinced about Kraft as I am about BB’s ego. At least replace him with someone better. For the most part he’s the 3rd choice for the Broncos where, for the most part, he was Brady’s first. Why we are not building up receivers makes me shake my head. That being said….Monday morning quarterbacking is just that πŸ™‚

      1. Vicki you hit it on the head with welker. That team is so stacked its ridicules. That’s why again it’s obvious that there in the running for a Super Bowl performance. Kraft could have stepped in to settle the rift between bb and welker. It was not money why he left it was a rift. It’s krafts team not bills team. Bills thinking is everybody can be replaced. But going back to welker who is fearless, tough both physical and mental, can catch just about anything and again the most fearless receiver I have ever see in the game. And who walks the talk on and off the field. I’m done. Cloudy Coolish day here. Go sox and bruins

            1. Different SIL. Haven’t talked to other one. He’s got his hand full with wife and two kids spiking over 102/103 fevers for 10 days and counting. I will ask. Sorry

  4. It’s a shame for Brady not to have gotten another ring due to BB ego. Brady might be the greatest qb ever to play and the patriots should have done more for him. He restructured his contract so they could sign Welker and BB lets him go due to his ego.

    1. You are right. You said it before and I was among those who didn’t see it. And it is sad for Brady. He is the one who ends up taking the heat. I’m
Not saying he won’t have another Super Bowl. I do believe BB didnt have that in the forefront.

  5. Pats: I can see everyone’s points here. I just don’t worry too much about it, personally. It’s what happens when you try to marry business and sports. As far as Kraft goes, wonderful man, not sure about his decision skills behind the scenes right now regarding the team. One of my former bosses in the private sector is very good friends with him. He used to be on the phone with Kraft while we sat in the forecasting room together. It was kind of cool. πŸ™‚

Bruins: Playing decently this afternoon. Hoping for a win to put Thursday night’s shut out behind them. Long season. Not worried about this team. They’re good. They’ll contend.

Sox: Excited! Any predictions? I am feeling Sox in 4 or 5. Not being arrogant or cocky as a fan, just have a feeling.

Weather: Low clouds came in right on schedule. Grey Saturday. Although as of 3:30PM it is sunny on Nantucket. A sign of drier air starting to work in from the northeast and east behind the low level moisture area that caused the low clouds. This is a sign for tomorrow. Much more sun.

      1. There will still be some low clouds around and maybe a drizzle patch, but I think we’ll be starting to see the dry air work in from the east so you may start to see breaks in the overcast. Light NE breeze and in the 50s. Jacket weather.

        1. Thanks…some very light rain/drizzle here in Natick, but glad to hear nothing more than that. Hooded sweatshirt and raincoat packed!

          1. Have fun. Drizzle from Framingham all the way to wellesley. The pike inbound is stop and go from at least natick in. Allow lots of time.

  6. Dave if u r reading we just went over the pike at oak street and east bound is on the brakes as far I could see both directions. Maybe u go another way??

    1. I’m reading it. I’m heading out to Natick. But I’ll take rt. 9.

Yes, my name is Dave, but not that Dave. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

        1. You confusesth me.

you said: east bound is on the brakes as far I could see both directions.

You did say both directions? No? πŸ˜€

          1. Ahh you meant you looked West and then East
on the East bound lane? Ah, that’s the ticket.
            I get it. πŸ˜€

  7. Why OH WHY do we have to get the worst of the drizzle just when the game
is about to begin? I’m abut 2 miles from Fenway and I can tell you it is
BRUTAL out there. Brisk NE wind, temp about 57 and fairly heavy DRIZZLE!!!

    YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!

What a Sh***y night for a game! MISERABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. I think the dry air starts to arrive soon and the drizzle should be gone. Predicting breaks in the clouds by early in the game and possibly even completely clearing from east to west depending on how long into the night we go.

  8. Answer to today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

What was the weather like during the first voyage of discovery by Columbus?

    A. Frequently rainy
    B. Hurricanes nearby
    C. Loaded with lightning
    D. Pleasant & peaceful

The answer is D. In fact, several history books have this one wrong.

    1. Hahaha. I thought A,B,C gave it away. They were all a bit too close in weather and I wasn’t sure when hurricanes or even lightening started being recorded or reported. See how I blunder into an answer πŸ˜€

  9. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

How many times has a World Series game been postponed because of cold weather?
    A. 1
    B. 2
    C. 5
    D. Never

    Answer later today. No cheating.

    1. Idk, but this is why baseball is hurting and the seasons to long and strung out, it’s killing baseball, how many people in this country do you think are watching baseball on weekends or the past month on weekends? I’ll give u a hint, it’s super low πŸ™‚

      1. Right now alot of people are watching baseball because its the playoffs, even more because the sox are in it. Football is awesome but its a fact that baseball is the all American sport and loved by everybody all over the world.

        1. I gotta be honest, if the sox werent in the playoffs, i wouldnt even consider watching a playoff baseball game. On the other hand, if the pats arent in the playoffs, i still watch every nfl playoff game

  10. I say the dallas/redskins game brings in a tv rating between 8-midnight of around a 20-21.0, the redsox/tigers game will get around a low rating of 5-7.0 only bc it’s on the weekend during football,Mon nights and Thu nights, it really is amazing how the nfl is so powerfull, and so watched, NFL #’s are up 5-6% over last yr!!!! Crazy!! Enjoy the day everyone!! GO PATRIOTS!!! πŸ™‚

      1. Vicki, gag!! Not even close, lol, have a good day, MLB gave up 5 yrs ago when they vocally said that there’s no way they could compete with the nfl, but the thing is its getting worse, nationally 80% of the audience will be watching the dallas redskins game, I know I will be πŸ™‚

    1. I think if u look at the local ratings, tonights sox game will destroy the sunday night nfl game. Well maybe except for Hadi’s household πŸ˜‰

      1. Idk, I betcha it’s closer than u think, 2 teams that have nothing to do with New England, you’d be surper surprised, I’ve never seen baseball locally even kill football ever πŸ™‚

  11. On the weather front…….what a glorious leer peeping morning. Am thinking of a fire outside to enjoy the coffee and croissants. 46.6 with a 46 DP

  12. Mostly overcast here. Was sunny earlier.
    πŸ˜€

NOT a good sign that the Sox lost last night.

1-ZIP with sox STRIKING OUT 16 TIMES!!!!
YIKES, pretty pathetic. Yes, we do have to credit to the pitchers,
but you DON’T WIN like that.

    Let’s see what tonight brings.

    1. They took waaay too many pitches. They were trying to play the on base percentage game and “work the count.” That was their game plan during the reg season but against good pitchers in the playoffs they will throw strikes. They need to get their bats off their shoulders amd swing! Its all about adjustments and they didnt make them. Poor coaching IMO

      1. I just think that the REAL Sox were exposed last night. As I said, we’ll see what tonight brings. πŸ˜€

  13. re: Patriots – this is all you need to know. You can kiss this season good-BYE

Dr. James Andrews has recommended that Rob Gronkowski not play Sunday against the Saints, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

Gronkowski, who has not played this season after an offseason filled with multiple surgeries on his back and left forearm, sounded an optimistic note as to whether or not he’d be able to go this week. However, it now appears that Gronkowski will be inactive for his sixth consecutive game.

There is reportedly a divide between Gronkowski’s camp and the team as to his level of readiness when it comes to the state of his forearm, with Gronkowski’s people believing he shouldn’t risk it, while the team says he’s good to go. In addition, a report from WEEI.com on Friday indicated Gronkowski’s camp has β€œserious concern” about the way Patriots team doctor Thomas Gill handled the procedure. As a result, Andrews β€” who consulted on Gronkowski’s last arm surgery β€” was recommended as something of a tiebreaker.

        1. So what. It’s news to me and thought that it might be
          news to others.

Patriots are DONE for this season. Stick a fork in em. πŸ˜€

      1. Os, I think your the type of fan that changes with how good each team is, if I asked you your favorite team in the 80’s, you’d prolly say the C’s, if I asked you your favorite team in the 90’s it’s was the redsox, if I asked you your favorite team in the 00’s it’s prolly the Patriots, now I’d say you’ve roamed back to the redsox or bruins, I’ve had 1 favorite team win lose or tie im a Patriots fan till i die and have been a fan since the 80’s, it never changes whether the Patriots r 4-12 or 14-2, though I do root for all the teams, I’m certainly not emotional invested like I am the Patriots, GO Patriots!! Have a good day everyone, I’ll give you the ratings tomorrow, locally and nationally, I would guess nationally it will be 3 to 1 watching the nfl, and very close locally maybe MLB might be a point or 2 higher than nfl but I’m not sure, it wouldn’t surprise me if NFL locally was a tad higher, we shall see πŸ™‚

        1. Charlie,

You don’t know me and you are SOOOOOOO FAAAAAAAAAAAAR off it isn’t even worthy of discussing.

          πŸ˜€

            1. me thinks you woke up in a bad mood, Charlie. You’ve been angling for a “discussion” since you posted your reply to the quiz – which is for fun. And now you are telling OS about himself ?????

              1. Charlie doesn’t have a mood. It’s all Charlie all the time. He’s right about everything and we are all wrong, off base, don’t know what we are talking about, etc. Charlie is so smart he must be teaching at MIT….not. I’m done for awhile with the blog. I love coming out here for discussions about Weather and other things but I can’t stand Charlie’s attitude and his dismissive nature about anyone else’s thoughts except his.

Charlie you got mad at me for supposedly calling you a name once…Well here’s one for you….nahhh..never mind you aren’t worth it.

                1. Keith don’t leave because one guy on here rubs you the wrong way, I didn’t. Behind a keyboard people become well I better not say either. Stay on I for one would miss your comments. Plus we don’t have many south shore people on here lol.

                2. Thanks John….not going away completely…just a break for awhile (Until the snow flies LOL). And we do need some more South Shore people.

                3. I wish you wouldn’t stop commenting. πŸ™ And if you do I will have to hope for a major snowstorm next week :). Seriously, please keep posting. It’s just “family” bickering ;).

        2. Charlie I think what oldsalty is saying is the truth. I am a huge, huge pats fan but this year they suck and will not be a tough condendor. I would be shocked if they won today but even if they do it is still the same. Teams go through bad years. Brady does not have the targets that he once had, period case closed. As far as the sox go that was not even detroits best picture, there best cy young award pitcher is up tonight. Tough series for the sox but too early for any predictions.

  14. No stress here.

Not the highest expectations for the Pats, though they will contend to a degree. Whatever happens happens. I saw them win it all. It’s all good with me.

Sox? They are taking us on a great ride. Anybody who at the end of last year thought they would make it to the ALCS this year is LYING. πŸ˜€ Enjoy it, regardless of the outcome.

    Go Bruins!

    1. Indeed, Go Bruins. They looked good yesterday.
NOT missing Seguin at all. Trade looking great so far.
      We’ll see later.

    2. If this is a transition year for the Pats, so be it. I will enjoy each and every game. They are a remarkable team and Hadi’s comment re Brady yesterday was one of the highest compliments I’ve heard from a non-Pats fan. I’m not writing the Sox off after one game. They have a history of being the comeback kids. I didn’t write them off in 2004 against the Yankees and I won’t now. Any more than I’ll write the Pats off. However, win or lose or draw I’m proud to call both my team. I think we all are – frustration does not change that.

      1. I blame Gronk 100% , whenever your caught doing a body slam while injured and has never recovered, it’s 100% his fault, he should be on the field, ask Brady, he’s a bit frustrated with him and said he’s just waiting, it’s a joke what he’s doing

    1. We had sun, blue sky and puffy clouds earlier but are back in the clouds now. We put the glass windows in our porch. Its about 2 weeks later than we had to a decade ago and we wouldn’t have put them in until next weekend except we have plans then and didnt want to wait two weeks. October weather is a changin’

How are the triplets :). Do you know if you can put down a winter guard type of fertilizer once its established or does anything like that have to wait until spring ?

      1. Haha, triplets are ok, hoping it continues to come in thicker. Did u use a starter fertilizer before u seeded? If u did, i wouldnt fertilize for at least 4-6 weeks after u planted, or after mowing for maybe 3 times.

  15. Yes Skins will be on tonight πŸ™‚ but will flip back to sox game.

Charlie of course football is more popular but don’t bash other sports. Just bc they don’t get rating doesn’t mean they are not terrific. I think the way you come off about
the Pats is plain arrogant. They are a great team but be sensitive in the way you communicate your feelings.

  16. Hadi I think its going to be a great game between both our teams tonight. As I said the other day I am curious how Dallas will come out after two straight tough losses to San Diego and Denver.

  17. I think any team that’s played Denver this year is like what happened. Work tomorrow so will just watch sox till 10. Although back to Denver and Dallas I believe that was the closest score for Denver 51-48 I believe.

    1. Will see what manning looks like when it gets cold, typically he becomes more like the tin man when temps get cold

  18. I blame Gronk 100% , whenever your caught doing a body slam while injured and has never recovered, it’s 100% his fault, he should be on the field, ask Brady, he’s a bit frustrated with him and said he’s just waiting, it’s a joke what he’s doing

    1. True, he dis put himself in jeopardy by doing all that nonsense during the offseason. Regardless, he has all the leverage right now. Maybe if they didnt put him in too soon last year he wouldnt be in this mess

    2. Charlie who cares. Enough is enough with your football thoughts. We’re loosing good people here because of your thoughts. Stick to weather not football unless you can handle the conversation please. Good day.

        1. You get to excited about the pats. I get it you love the pats as do I, but come on we both know there not on there game this year and that’s a fact. A true fan can step back and say yes they do stink this year, that does not mean your jumping off the pats wagon it’s only the truth. There lucky to be 4-1 at this point because that’s not a solid 4-1 record it’s a lucky 4-1 record. How can a true fan not accept that and realize why there in this position. It’s because they let solid hard core veterans walk away. Until they replace these losses this will be your on field product.

          1. See John, it doesn’t matter if the Patriots r 0-16 they will always be the #1 team, I don’t jump around to each team watching whatever teams doing the best or better, yes I do love the Patriots, always have, have a good day John and no offense to anything bud, good day πŸ™‚

  19. Hey Ace,

Please stick around. I try to just roll with it all. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

I have to go out to dinner this evening and have to leave the house by 4:30, so I am
going to miss the entire Pat’s game. Should, however, catch most of the Sox game. πŸ˜€

  20. Clay Buchholz will take to the Fenway Park mound in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series Sunday night, and he’ll do it with a 1.74 ERA and 1.03 WHIP to his name AND he had better be every bit of that tonight. Should be an awesome game!

    Go Sox!

    1. Was very surprised the Red Sox only had one hit last night with Detroit not having their best pitcher on the mound. Great pitching matchup Buchholz and Scherzer in game two.

    1. Thanks OS. Mac uses one of them and my grandkids use the one that shows you what to wear. I have accuweather and weather channel and am not crazy about them. I wasn’t familiar with the others and will check them out. Very interesting.

  21. Welcome to Woods Hill Sports!! J/K πŸ˜‰

Not a very active weather weekend unless you love stratus decks.

Working on The Week Ahead soon. πŸ™‚

      1. It’s fine. Chat away. πŸ™‚

I was just making light of it. πŸ™‚

Right now I’m trying to ban some IP’s that have become major spammers. I have over 1000 spams coming in per day in the open format I have. I MAY need to go to a login format soon. But if I do, nothing else will change. It would be just to prevent the spam from freely pouring into my pending folder, which makes it very easy for me to miss when somebody new posts. πŸ˜›

          1. It’s not a formal log in process. The emails are used to verify the user as you have free choice of username.

A login process would require a username and password to be entered each time. It’s a little extra to get to the site but it would also prevent me from thousands of spam mails every couple of days.

HOWEVER, I am attempting to install a plug in that may help me ban the main offending IP’s. If that eliminates enough of the problem, I’ll hold back on the switch to a login site.

            1. TK does it allow a “remain logged in” or remember me?

Whatever you need to do, we will be fine. It sounds as if there is far too much maintenance time for you and none of us wants that

              1. To be honest, I am not sure yet. It may allow you to stay logged in until you reboot your computer or phone, etc.

                1. I have a google blog that is only open to a few individuals. It requires log in and verification that the Individual is a member. It keeps me logged in except for random log outs. Even when I shut down. Word press is much more advanced than google. So I’d be surprised

BUT and its a biggie. Literally whatever makes your life easier is what it should be πŸ˜€

  22. I’m grilling chicken, shrimp, and lobster tails for the game, I’m grilling out of my Patriots grill I got from the pro shop 2 yrs ago, is anyone grilling? And what?

    1. I made buffalo wings and teriyaki wings and will pop a Stromboli in the oven in a while. Its a great and easy recipe. I do two. Some with ham and pepperoni. Some with peepperoni. Both of those with cheese and sauce of course. And then some with just sauce and cheese. There are a million things you could add

      http://www.laurenslatest.com/how-to-make-stromboli/

          1. Did u treat it with anything or just grill? Son grills entire lobster but I don’t know how he does it

    2. Ribeye steaks, fresh picked corn and rice. Warm cookies for the sox. I was to be off tomorrow but changed it. I’m off the week after Xmas.

      1. Yum. Ribeye is our favorite. We have a wonderful dry rub – Borsari. What do you use?

It should be clear food is my very favorite topic and I love new ideas

        1. Nothing Vicki. Never really got into the rubs. My son and I like the a1 sauce. I usually grill some onions as well but did not this time.

          1. It’s actually a combination of spices. I am not a rub fan either. Just sprinkle on and grill. If you see it is recommend trying it. Our butcher recommended it years ago and we were Hooked. My dad always used A1. Both sons in law do.

  23. 74 spam messages arrived in my ‘pending’ folder during the last hour alone.

    Yup. It’s an issue. πŸ™‚

    1. Oddly the blog I host for my business partner uses word press and the spam has increased tremendously the past month or so

      1. That’s when mine doubled then tripled then increased even more. I really want to keep the site open comment without the log in. Let me see what happens. The new plug in will be installed this evening.

I’m only waiting because I’m using the computer that I do site admin from to play music while I watch the Pats with no volume as I am not a huge fan of the Fox announcers. πŸ˜›

        1. Boy do we agree on fox announcers.

Norton has warned me about attempted strikes on the word press blog a lot lately too. The blog is a couple of years old and I’ve never had any of this. Odd

  24. Answer to Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

How many times has a World Series game been postponed because of cold weather?
    A. 1
    B. 2
    C. 5
    D. Never

The answer is B, twice. The last time was in 2009 … Rockies vs Phillies in Colorado.

    1. Yep 80 again. Scary watching him. Talib. As was said….the perfect storm. Hard to say they are not doing well with basically a rookie team.
