Weekend Update

1:59AM

The mild air of Saturday is gone. A cold front passed by Saturday evening with rain showers and a drop in temperature. Some additional energy moving through the region Sunday morning will prolong cloudiness and some threat of rain showers over southern NH and eastern MA, with a snow shower possible interior higher elevations. Clouds will eventually decrease. Colder air will flow in on a gusty northerly breeze.

High pressure builds across the region Monday with the core of the cold air passing through and it will be a bright and cold early November day. More cloudiness is expected Tuesday as milder air comes in aloft. It will also moderate slightly at ground level and the day will not be as chilly as Monday. A more significant warm up is expected at midweek, but by late Thursday or early Friday a period of unsettled weather will mark a switch back to cooler air at the very end of the week.

Updated forecast for southeastern New England…

  1. TK, thanks for the update. I think there is a partial eclipse this morning maybe around 6:30 am, but might be difficult to see given the clouds.

  2. Thanks TK.
Cat966g I always love seeing those first flakes of the season. It was a year ago this week the 7th and 8th that parts of SNE had an accumulating snow one week after Sandy. I ended up getting six inches from that storm. No accumulating snow the first week of November this year.

  3. Same in Woburn…some flakes mixed in with the rain. I guess I qualify as an “inland higher elevation” at 160 feet. 😉

    1. I am not sure two little flakes would make it there, but I’ll try 🙂 And it feels like late fall/early winter today. New England is amazing. We sat on the deck with a fire well into the evening last night!!

  4. Didn’t see any here. Perhaps I missed one or 2, but my sense is, didn’t happen. temp
was at an even 40. 😀

    1. Can you guess where this is?
      It’s in the US.

Since there was no quiz today, how about it?

      A. Mt. Whitney in California
      B. Mt. Hood in Oregon
      C. Mt Rainier in Washington
      D. Pikes Peak in Colorado
      E. Mt. Charleston in Nevada

    1. I thought the same but I was outvoted and made chili instead.

Am going to have some mulled cider in a bit too!!

      1. I cooked an awesome pork roast on the grill lastnight. Shaws had buy one get one free and they were big.

        1. Sausage and onion pizza tonight for the game. Had a nice relaxing four days off and a nice visit with my mother who just left.

      2. Making apple cider glazed roast chicken here – debating on either long grain with wild rice, or simple baked potato, with sauteed zucchini and summer squash, onion and garlic. 🙂 With all these good cooks here, perhaps we should have a Woods Hill Weather potluck?

          1. No problem, Vicki – so easy! Since I eyeballed everything, I’ll guesstimate amounts for the glaze:

            3/4 cup apple cider
            1/4 cup honey
            salt and pepper to taste
1/4 tsp. garlic powder or 2 crushed/chopped cloves
3 tablespoons butter, melted or let it melt with all the ingredients
            1/4 tsp. ground coriander
            2 tablespoons sherry

combine everything in a small saucepan, mix until combined, baste chicken every 15-30 minutes. Enjoy!

    1. I know Tom. Leave in the dark now and come home in the dark. I like this time of year now with the holidays coming up. But January and February I just do not enjoy. I’m happy when mid march comes around.

      1. Oh yes, from now to New Year’s Day is awesome !! Wonder if any FM Stations will be starting Christmas tunes. We are past Halloween. 🙂

        1. Ummmmmmm should I say that hallmark started their countdown to Christmas movies and I’m watching them 🙂

          1. Vicki did you watch the movie last night on that channel. I believe it was the first thanksgiving. My mother and I did and we enjoyed it. All of it was filmed in Plymouth ma.

            1. It’s called thanksgiving house. I was going to post that it was filmed in Plymouth. Mac and I are watching it now before game.

                1. Yes that’s what it was called. I liked it very much. Was it a new movie or has it been out. While my mom was hear she loves her shows. Another one she watched Friday was bloods I believe, I enjoyed that as well. Not sure if that’s what it was called the cop show with Tom s.

                2. It was a good movie we just finished it. And its Blue Bloods on Friday. One of my favs too. Your mom and I have a lot in common 😀

        2. If not Tom it’s coming real soon. I think Xmas music is some of the best around. Just happy feel good family music.

  5. Mt. Washington at 9F and surface dewpoints in the teens to low 20s just north and west of eastern New England. It is going to be one cold night.

  6. Headed to the Barker Tavern in Scituate for a Birthday dinner for a friend.

Answer to quiz when I return or if too late, tomorrow AM.

    😀

      1. What does bam mean tk. I don’t know about anybody else here but I love when the pats play the late afternoon games. I wish they played at this time every Sunday. I think there off next week.

  7. The Week Ahead will be posted sometime early evening.

    Preview:
-Cold & sunny Monday (almost like a halcyon day in December).
-Clouds increase Tuesday as mild air arrives above us, a bit less cold down here.
-More sun, some clouds, mild Wednesday.
-Front should be slow enough for Indian Summer Thursday before showers.
    -Windy/colder Friday.
-Cool to seasonable weekend with a very weak system maybe Saturday night.

        1. I’ll gamble and say Boston’s temp at 3AM Tuesday will be 36 with a low 34 a couple hours later.

  8. Vicki the one I watched was new. Plymouth is a nice town. My wife’s car was being serviced there over the weekend and always enjoy the ride through.

    1. Yes it was new. We love Plymouth. My youngest, her husband and son Love it. Baby will too when he’s older

    1. Did it? I just checked. It did make it to 31.

Sun must have been shining on my thermometer at 7AM as it was reading
      33. 😀

  9. Good morning all,

The answer to my little impromptu quiz was:

    C. Mt Rainier, in Washington State.

I “think” I could have gotten a little more creative with the other choices.

I threw in Mt. Charleston in Nevada because it was a personal favorite of mine
when I was making frequent trips to Las Vegas. It’s only about 40 miles from Las
Vegas itself and is visible from the Strip and looks especially majestic when snow covered, which happens November through April.

Mt. Whitney was a particularly poor choice. Oh well.

    Re: Barker Tavern

What a great place. Awesome ambiance and fantastic food. Wonderful night.

    1. Thanks, OS. You’d uv thunk I’d know that since Ranier is familiar to me. I chose Charleston because it is where my in-laws retired…..well not NV but still.

What did you have for dinner? They used to have a wonderful escargot appetizer but last time we were there didn’t have it on the menu 🙁 We always enjoy our meal! I know Tom has mentioned Barker Tavern also!

      1. I had Tournedos of Beef while my wife had a Filet Mignon.
        Excellent!!

The party was in that little room just to the left of the main
        entrance. Really nice.

Of course, I made several trips to the bar (not for drinks, but to check on the score of the game). 😀
