The Week Ahead

8:25PM

Models are overcooking the weather right now. They forecast too much precipitation over the coming week. There won’t be much. High pressure holds early in the week but starts to slide offshore with a wind flow turning from southeast to southwest. Cold front slides through the region Wednesday (timing uncertain) with a chance of passing showers and thunderstorms. High pressure builds back into the region later in the week, though weather systems will probably be fairly weak with no strong pushes of neither cool nor hot air, just kind of normal in temperature and on the drier side.

Forecast for southeastern New England…

TONIGHT: Few clouds dissipate. Lows middle 40s deep valleys, 50s elsewhere. Wind light E to variable.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 70s coast, lower 80s inland. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows lower 50s inland valleys to around 60 urban centers. Wind light S.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs middle 70s South Coast to lower 80s inland. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Scattered showers/thunderstorms. Low 62. High 82.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Low 61. High 81.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 63. High 79.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 64. High 81.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 64. High 84.

    1. Ace thank you for your birthday wishes. I saw them on the last blog. I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures.

  1. Hey, I don’t want my weather overcooked πŸ˜› I want it medium well! I think the models should be kicked out of the kitchen. πŸ˜‰

    A. Foggiest 3 regions of the US
    B. Subject to tornados
    C. Subject to hurricane
    D. Large temperature swings

    The correct answer is A.

    1. I had high confidence in the 24 hours but fairly low in the other one. Lots of fun learning. Thanks.

    2. if i saw this i would have said A but if the west coast was not involved it could have been D

  3. Thanks TK.
I think when we look back at the summer of 2014 this may end up being one of the best if not the best weekends we get this summer season.

  4. from now on until i stop working weekends. Let all the crappy weather happen over the weekend oh mighty weather gods πŸ˜›

  5. Great weather? Depends on point of view.

For all outdoor activities EXCEPT swimming, YES.

If I were younger and had the family down the Cape to hit the beach every day,
    I’d be steaming mad.

But now, I’ll take this weather every day of the Summer!!!

To me, Wednesday doesn’t look like any big deal.

    KEEP the steam heat away!!!!!

  6. Hmmm

This morning’s NWS discussion suggests possibly some Strong T-storms Wednesday.
    I’m not buying it.

It also suggests a much longer period of unsettled weather? I don’t have a clue on that, except that I lean towards not, but who knows. We shall see.

  7. I disagree OS as of right now even if it was warmer the water would still be chilly. We have been here in Chatham since Saturday and it’s been perfect. Temps in mid 70’s and nighttime perfect. I guess it all depends on the kids ages but for mine you can’t ask for better. Now of this was mid July sure I can see how upset would people would be.

    1. That’s fine. We and I mean all of us, the Wife and the kids HATED it
when it was only in the 70s. HATED it. We liked 80s best, and when down
      the beach, 90s were fine.

But now, my wife can’t tolerate the heat, so she’s LOVING this weather.

As I said, it depends on point of view. We’re all different.

As long as it’s not raniny/drizzly I’m happy.

      1. 70s at the beach is ok, only and only if there’s no breeze. If there is any wind at all, 70’s is too cool for the beach IMO. By beach I mean being in a bathing suit without any additional clothes and being in and out of the water.

  8. Just hoping we get a good 4th weekend because I heard this morning Saturday again is looking like a winner .

  9. So I start my 12 day vacation on the 4th and I’ve taking this week before and usually get lucky with some of the best weather of the summer. Let’s hope for that trend to continue.

    1. Sunset also went from 8:24 to 8:25pm tommorrow but the sunrise stays the same, so I believe it’s only 12-15 sec’s shorter. In 2 weeks days will only be 7-8 min’s shorter, barley noticeable, have a good day Philip πŸ™‚

      1. Sun set is at 8:25 PM unit 7/3 when it is 8:24.
So the days are shorter, but it is a later sunrise NOT an earlier
        sunset. πŸ˜€

        1. It is DOWNHILL in a hurry after the 4th of July. πŸ˜€

Sunset is 8:05 PM by 7/31.
          7:20 PM by 8/31.

  10. CMC not so much.
    Euro barely anything.

    Here we go again.

Just finished painting 3 decks and cellar bulkhead.

    I’m dead!

      1. No. I had one personal day that I had to take else I’d lose it.
So I put it to good use today around the house. πŸ˜€

  11. 74 at Logan with a rip roaring East wind at 17 mph. brrrr

    Ocean temp 63

It’s blowing here as well, but temp has managed to creep up to 79.2

  12. 18Z NAM says >>!@#_)!@#_(!@#???? I dunno what’s happening Wednesday and /or Thursday.
That tells me NOTHING will happen! πŸ˜€

  13. CNN: A tsunami warning has been issued for coastal Alaska after an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 about 15 miles from Little Sitkin Island, Alaska.

The quake had a depth of 71 miles and was expected to produce a “modest” tsunami, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

      1. Mac in better tonight. He had a fever over weekend and fear was there was infection where the surgery was. Surgeon who is my new best friend saw him today and said wound looks wonderful. So one day at a time and hoping he may be home by the fourth by which time they can resume cancer treatment Thank you John.

  14. Vicki, saw the tsunami warning. One small town evacuated. Latest reading is a 7.9 magnitude.

While New England struggles to get to 80F, there’s many places in far northwestern Canada that got into the 80s today, some 15F-25F above normal.

In the picture I posted, there is a decent area that is now open water and a large area to its north where the ice is thin and melting quickly (the dark looking ice).

This would be quite normal in later July, but is quite a head start near the solstice for this melting season.

Its always possible the arctic could return to cooler weather, but the early stage offers possibilities for a top 5 ice minimum in September, should this meltdown continue. Stay tuned.

  16. Good evening! Another beautiful night, looking like a possibility of storms Thursday afternoon.

Just a side thought, I drove by the under construction Plainridge casino in Plainville that is going to be opening in 8-9 months, the steel frame of the casino has risen and the parking garage r built. With Plainville receiving a 27M check and foxboro a few hundreds yds away, it’s like a slap in the face to residents that fought the casino at patriot place. I mean now foxboro has to deal with the casino, and gets nothing, that was dumb imo they should have built a casino, I was in favor of it, and even voted for it. Anyways goodnight everyone πŸ™‚
