Thursday Forecast

7:34AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 14-18)…
High pressure remains centered to the north of the region through Friday, providing fair but cool weather. The winds will increase from the northeast Friday into Saturday as an offshore storm squeezes the pressure gradient for a while as it tracks westward then southward. The only other potential impact from this would be some clouds for a time on Saturday. High pressure sinks to the south later in the weekend allowing for a warm-up by Sunday though some coastal areas will still be on the cooler side. Watching a front from the north for Monday for timing of a wind shift and a significant temperature drop. At this time, still several days out, leaning toward this occurring late in the day or at night, but will watch it due to the fact there is a daytime Red Sox game and of course the Boston Marathon.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 40s to middle 50s, coolest coast. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 30s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 40s to middle 50s, coolest at the coast. Wind NE 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the upper 40s to middle 50s, coolest at the coast.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs 50s South Coast, immediate East Coast, 60s most other areas, and some lower 70s possible interior valleys.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Highs upper 50s to lower 70s, coolest South Coast and warmest interior areas.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 19-23)…
Mostly fair though isolated rain showers/drizzle may occur for a portion of April 19-20 depending on the position of an upper low and the wind direction, and very likely quite cool during these 2 days as well. Mostly fair, milder April 21-23.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 24-28)…
Risk of rain early in the period then a return to fair weather. Temperatures near to below normal.

  1. Thanks TK !

Definitely a bit more wind this morning than yesterday, at least here in Marshfield.

    Beautiful sunshine though !!

    1. I think it might depend on the timing of the back door cold front, though even if the front comes through Monday night, I wonder if the sea breeze might still overcome what shouldn’t be a strong land breeze.

    1. This is just my take …….

A 39 year old defenseman (Chara) and a 34 year old (Seidenberg) who are shells of their former selves. The rest of the defensive core are average to mediocre at best. And they crazily traded Dougie Hamilton !!!

Krecji, Bergeron, Marchand and maybe Ericson are your decent centers and forwards. After that, it’s a bunch of grinders who would be mostly 4th line players on other teams.

My only 1 Claude complaint is that he needs to play Pasternak more and on the power play.

I think it’s nearly unbelievable that this talent lacking group got 95 points and finished well above .500. I don’t think many other coaches would have gotten anywhere this much out of that team.

      1. I hear you. And I tend to agree with everything you said. I just think its time for a coaching change.

        1. Very understandable. 9 or 10 years is a long run.

I just don’t know if any replacement would be an upgrade. I think we have a great coach already.

Now, as for the player personnel decisions the last 2 to 3 years …….

    2. Claude SUCKS and I cannot fathom why the hell he is back.
He is the worst thing that ever happened to this team!!!!!!!!

      HE totally S U C K S!!! I can’t stand him and NEVER could.

      GET RID OF HIM!!!!!

      1. His overall record says otherwise, but I do think a change of coach may be good as well as several player changes.

  2. Very nice! 60’s and 70’s just around the corner πŸ™‚
17-year cicadas set to invade the Northeast…
Next month, as temperatures warm (65 degrees), billions of cicadas will begin to emerge from the ground as their internal clocks hit the 17-year mark.
Soon, their numbers (can hit 1.5 million critters per acre) will swell in locations in Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia and West Virginia, making a racket as the males call for the females.

  3. Does anyone know if this is the spring for the infestation of the gypsy moth caterpillars, the furry, gray ones that leave poop all over your car? Doesn’t that happen every 11 years or so?

Gee, with the cicadas, gypsy moth caterpillars and the tiny green caterpillars from the winter moths, it will look like a scene from a Cecil B. DeMille movie with plagues and locusts.

    1. I don’t know about this year, but the gypsy moth caterpillars were as plentiful as I’ve seen in a while late last spring.

Over Memorial Day weekend in Myles Standish Forest, they weren’t too bad. But, when we camped in mid June, they were everywhere. On the camper, on our chairs, on the car, falling from the trees onto us. I kept a hat on all weekend. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I just don’t know how long the cycle for successive seasons lasts ….

      1. We had more trouble with the winter moth catepillars. I haven’t seen gyspy moths in the Framingham area for a number of years and would prefer not to see them again.

  4. The GFS seems to be throwing signals for more and more warm air intrusions as the month goes on.

Seems like a few warm sector opportunities on the 12z run mixed in with the occasional cool push behind back door cool fronts.

  5. Old salty you know nothing about hockey if you think Claude sucks . By far the most absurd thing I’ve head you say . He is an incredible Coach . I’m just saying you keep saying he is so bad . He is dealt cams mess . How about we clean house starting with cam Neely . Just saying that’s all.

    1. He sucks beyond belief. I played competitive hockey for a long time.
      This guy ruins players.

I am sorry John but I totally and completely disagree with you.

  6. Cicada’s … We’ll get a massive invasion, but we always get a sizable battalion from around the 25th of July on through September. I don’t like the sound or the look of a cicada. It screams HHH!

I’m really enjoying the current stretch of weather. I had expected a cutoff low to negatively impact us, but it hasn’t. I sleep well in this weather. It’s bright and sunny.

On Claude, he’s a very knowledgeable coach. I also like him as a person. But, he’s stubborn and resistant to change. And this year his system completely broke down. This is why I did think he’d get axed. The team was an offensive powerhouse this year. Not exactly Claude’s doing. On the other hand, the Bruins were a defensive disaster. Some of the responsibility does fall on Claude. Defensive zone lapses, giveaways at inopportune times, really poor passing out of the zone, are somewhat the responsibility of a coach whose forte is defense and systems play. Also, team collapses late in seasons (twice in a row!), or in a series (remember Philadelphia in 2010) are partly the responsibility of the coach. It’s a leadership issue, and being listened to by players. Julien commands respect from the older players, but I don’t think the younger ones listen to him.

    1. Partly? I should say so.
He should be gone. In any other City he would be gone.
This organization wouldn’t know how to get out of a wet paper bag.
      Pathetic.

They made a huge mistake letting Tyler Seguin go basically for a bag of pucks!!!

In addition to the coach, I hold Sweeney and Neely responsible as well.
Sweeney does not appear smart enough to have attended Harvard. He just doesn’t.

      1. They made a mistake drafting Seguin. He was a cancer. Then they goofed and let Hamilton go. That was after they committed to Lucic, who was inconsistent. And after they failed to add speed two years ago.
I root for the Bs, but the only reason they won the Cup in ’11 was they beat up the Canucks to a pulp, as they could not match Vancouver’s skill. Oh, and our goalkeeper, Timmy T, played absolutely and totally and utterly out of his mind.
I watch the NHL when the playoffs get to the semifinals, at which point the teams are beyond belief in skill and speed. I literally move my chair right near the screen to not miss anything.
By the way I love Bergeron through all of this. One of Boston’s great ones.

  7. Snowfall is pretty much done in the lower 48 until late October, early November. However, very different story when we look north to places like northern Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and of course even further north in the Northwest Territories. Environment Canada has posted blizzard and snowfall watches across a swath of the northern tier of the main provinces as well as parts of the Northwest Territories. This is typical in April and May when some of the heaviest snows often fall up there.

    1. I heard from Al Roker this morning that the Rockies including Denver is in for heavy snow with Denver itself expecting 8-12″. So much for “Springtime In The Rockies”. πŸ˜‰

  8. I was surprised Julien was kept as coach considering its now two years in a row no playoffs. I could see a situation where if the Bruins start out slow next year Julien gets fired early in the season.

    1. Agree.

It’s hard not to make the playoffs in hockey. You kind of have to work at it, given that more than half the teams get in. I realize the talent was limited on the Bruins this year, but no way they shouldn’t have made the playoffs this year given where they were a month ago. A monumental collapse. Sadly, I see something similar happening with the Red Sox. Limited talent in some areas, but there’s no way a team with that much money (and talent) should be in last place 2 years in a row. I could see them landing in the basement again this year.

  9. You got five teams in that division with a lot of question marks. Red Sox can they get better starting pitching than a year ago, Yankees can they stay healthy, Toronto has the offense but lacks in the pitching department Rays good starting pitching lack of offense Orioles to me like Toronto has the offense not to the level of Toronto but lacks pitching.

  10. In my opinion, this is the order of magnitude of issues from biggest to smallest that plagues the Bruins:

    Ownership
    President
    GM
    Players
    Coach

But I think a change of the first 3 and the last, and several of the players, would benefit.

  11. GFS is in good shape. But something must be remembered at this time of year. High heights over the Northeast do not necessarily mean warm weather everywhere. It depends on what’s going on at the surface.

  12. Thank you Tk πŸ™‚ my only sports input is the
NFL schedules come out tonight on ESPN. A special 2 hr show. Anyone wanna bet they get ratings for this? I would go out on a limb and say they will have the highest sports tv rating in the timeframe. “”Over NFL teams schedules?”” I give them credit

    1. That takes “NFL geeking-out” to a new level. But hey, if people will watch, there you have it. At least it fits the channel’s format, which is more than we can say for any program on “Music Television” aka MTV. πŸ™‚

  13. I like NFL football as well as anyone. It’s m favorite sport. But I have to say watching a 2 hour show on the schedul, I’d sooner get a filling drilled out with no novacaine.

      1. I can’t even say something derogatory properly!!!

That should read I would NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT eat
his pizza even IF he gave it to me for FREE! NEVER!

    1. Papa johns is at the very bottom of the major pizza chains. Even lower than Pizza Hut, and that’s hard to do

  14. ISS.. 3 min pass NW to ESE at 72 deg above horizon. Starts in a few min at 8:46PM.

    1. Oops. Missed it. Betting my son in law was outside watching. It certainly is a thrill when you see if and think about what it is.

  15. Oh the nfl is trying to make it hard for the patriots, look at that schedual, pats could easily go 9-7

    1. Bob from Ch 5 days 12-4 for the Pats and calls the schedule “lackluster” and I generally agree. But I’ll say 11-5.
