Sunday Forecast

7:42AM

DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 11-15)…
A cold front moving across the area will produce a broken to solid line of showers and thunderstorms from west to east from mid morning to early afternoon for a period of about 15 to 30 minutes as it goes by. The line may produce downpours, strong and gusty winds, and some lightning. Timing should break down about like this…
Around 8AM: Western MA to northwestern CT
Around 9AM: Connecticut Valley area.
Around 10AM: Central MA to central CT and southwestern NH.
Around 11AM: Southeastern NH including Seacoast, Worcester to western suburbs of Boston, northeastern CT to northwestern RI.
Around NOON: MA North Shore, Boston to Providence corridor.
Around 1PM: Southeastern MA to lower Cape Cod.
Around 2PM: Outer Cape Cod.
Once this front has cleared the area, the weather will be much improved to end the day and then high pressure will take over for early in the week with fair weather. A cold front brings the next shower threat on Wednesday followed by a push of cooler/drier air and a bit of a fall feel by Thursday.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy through midday with showers/thunderstorms pushing west to east across the region (see timing above). Clearing west to east following this. Less humid this afternoon. Highs 76-83. Wind S to SW up to 20 MPH with higher gusts possible, shifting to W.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 53-60, coolest in southern NH and north central MA. Wind W up to 15 MPH with higher gusts.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 75-82. Wind N up to 10 MPH becoming variable.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 55-62. Highs 77-84.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Risk of midday and afternoon showers/thunderstorms. More humid. Lows 60-68. Highs 78-86.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Windy. Lows 50-58. Highs 68-76.

DAYS 6-10 (SEPTEMBER 16-20)…
High pressure will be in control September 16-18 with fair weather, cool mornings September 16-17, slow warming trend each afternoon through September 18. By September 19 a shot of heat/humidity precedes the next front and there may be a shower/t-storm threat. Drier weather expected at the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (SEPTEMBER 21-25)…
Overall pattern remains dry with above normal temperatures.

  1. Thanks TK !

Like the timeline, good stuff !!

Look at the wind on the 8am Pittsfield, MA ob : W at 37, gusting to 52.

  2. Thank you, TK.

15 years seems both like yesterday and like forever ago and will always seem somewhat surreal to me. My heart aches for the lives lost and for the lives forever affected by that day. God Bless this country. God Bless us all.

  3. Severe weather is not what I wanted to see this morning. Doing a rare weekend morning shift, which has my body completely thrown off schedule. I didn’t really need the extra headaches of making a whole bunch of calls to clients at 9am on a Sunday.

  4. Next Thursday and Friday, while beautifully comfortable, don’t look quite as cool as projected the last day or 2. Still, 70s and very low humidity will be quite nice.

  5. There’s nothing on the Southern end of that line of storms.
Looking at the radar, it looks possible Boston “could” get screwed again.
Not sure as it is difficult to tell. Will know a bit later for sure.

Of course, the Southern end could fill in as well.

    I’ll bet JJ didn’t see a thing.

    1. Looking at the lightning map, most of it appears to be up North and lessening.
Unless it picks up again, won’t be hearing much thunder around these parts.

  6. It will be interesting if warnings extend into Boston and South Shore eventually. They have now been extended into western Worcester County.

  7. The line has moved through here in Plymouth, NH. Torrential downpour with some thunder/lightning, but very little in the way of winds.

  8. Hey TK? Going to see Springsteen Wednesday night in Foxboro. Will any potential showers be out of the way by then? Thanks.

  9. 45 mins ago, the line appeared to be moving Northeastward.
Now it appears to be moving more on an Easterly or ENE track.
Boston “should” get in on this, IF it holds together. Not sure what happens
when it hits the “DRY DOME”. 😀

            1. I guess. Just doesn’t look very threatening at all on radar. I have seen some posts about pretty strong winds out there.
We shall see. Frankly, I’d be surprised here.

I don’t see strong thunderstorm winds here in the city very often.

  10. Pouring buckets here in Northern CT. Very little thunder or lightning to go with it though. We need every drop of it we can get.

  11. And my thoughts and prayers for with all of those who suffered through 9/11.

Looking at doppler radar – almost looking like line is breaking up a bit. Some gaps in the line but some heavier rain in spots, too. Hoping, hoping some rain makes it to Boston! Mostly to almost partly cloudy, warm, muggy but tolerable with nice breeze here in Sudbury. Clouds moving fast. Radar looks like it will rain here – don’t know. We’ll see.

  12. Line still looks to be weakening as it approaches the coast.
    Figures.

I guess I’ll have to shut the windows shortly. 😀

    1. Right and I’m Santa Clause remember. 😀
I think they are bored and just wanted something to do.

      Severe Thunderstorm warning, really?

      The line is breaking up.

      1. Worcester ob : W at 24 gusting to 40.

I guess there’s been some trees down in western mass with these storms as well as the ones up in NH.

        1. Fine, but does that translate to Boston? Not very often.
And 40 mph is far short of warning criteria.

I think the NWS is trigger happy today, but then what else is new?

  13. It’s been windy a good part of morning here – but we are now having a heavy downpour in Sudbury. Wind has calmed down a bit. No thunder or lightning.

  14. Wind strong. May 20 but no one clap of thunder yet. Rain now pelting but garage not showing. I wonder if it is having a problem or just hasn’t caught up

  15. Lot of scattered down trees and branches in North Central MA. Tree into house in Princeton, tree on a man in Leominster, etc.

    1. No doubt it was severe out that way? I’m talking about for Boston.

FWIW, I just grabbed my phone to check out RADAR SCOPE.

It looks MUCH more IMPRESSIVE with that display.

Wonder if my NEXRAD display is whacked out?

In fact on radar scope, it seems to have INTENSIFIED.

  16. Got very dark and windy here in Coventry CT and got a 10-15 min shower. Looks like less than 0.05″ in the rain gauge. Not much juice at all with the southern end of this line.

  17. I’m in Wilmington. We got just enough to cover the pavement, the rest has been virga despite the high DPs. Wasn’t raining when we were under the yellows on radar, but just started up again. Winds were somewhat high at the onset of the storm, but there only should have been a special weather statement for this.

    1. Final total 0.12 but since we have had more than others I’m not complaining. How is it in JP. Dover NH looks to have had a stronger part of the line

  18. Oddly just a bit ago it brightened up, but now VERY dark ominous clouds just off
to the W and NW. Very close now. And radar still shows it to be pretty intense
ob my radarscope. Nexrad even shows intensification. We shall see.
I have to run out shortly, but trying to wait until storm passes.

  19. Most intense echoes on radar scope poised to hit my area.
I shut the windows, except for the one next to my desk which I can shut
    if needed.

  20. Just NOT doing much. Wind is a JOKE. A few gusts well into the 20s is about all.
And hardly any rain. Has NOT tripped the rain gauge.

    VERY disappointing to be sure.

Radar now shows WEAKENING as it interacts with the CITY DRY DOME!!!

    1. Seriously, it’s like it FELL apart right over the top of me.

Rain gauge just tripped with a whopping 0.01 inch.

Well that’s a little better. A bit more rain now 0.02 inch and some wind
gusts perhaps into the low 30s at best. My wind equipment is not well
      situated to catch this wind.

    1. It has become the policy for the NWS to carpet bomb severe warnings when any line or cluster has the potential for wind damage, whether there is thunder or not.

  21. Unless we catch on of those follow-up cells, that looks like all she wrote:

Grand total: 0.06 inch WOW! Could you spare it?!@(#*(!@*#(*!@)#(!@(#*(

    Temperature: 72
    Dew Point: 66

    1. If you want to call it a line.

Pretty lame line I’ll tell you.

No thunder at all and hardly any rain and the warned wind was a joke.
(not that you warned. I’m talking about the NWS cry wolf warning. May have
been justified well to our West, but NOT here)

  22. Wow! We must have received one last drop that tripped the gauge again.
Or perhaps a bird or squirrel pissed in the gauge.

    Grand total: 0.07 inch

  23. Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan tweeted out on Friday afternoon he would not be surprised if there was a strong thunderstorm Sunday morning with as he cited steep mid lapse rates and decent wind shear.

  24. Mel… to answer your question regarding the concert on Wed. May be stuff around early but I’m optimistic. It may even end up a bit faster. What I do know based on a friend in the Baltimore area is that you ate in for a great show. The Boss has a bday coming up.

    1. The northern part was faster than I had said but a bit.

I alerted the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival to a gusty shower or t-storm in the 10AM to noon window then said focus on 11. It hit there at 10:35. 😉

  25. Hmmm

Dp has stopped dropping at 63. I surely thought we’d get into the 50s.
    What’s up with that?

It’s coming later I guess. Looking upstream in NY state, most dps in the 50s and in Northern areas even some upper 40s.

HAS to get in here eventually. The sooner the better!

      1. Don’t you know by know I want INSTANT!

        Dew point dropping now.

        Down to 59 here.

I was just out. It’s WARM out there, even if thermometer says
        78-80. 😀 😀 😀 😀

  26. DP 61. Was in hopkinton picking up some flowers and the wind was crazy. We got Lunch at the Snappy Dog truck there and tried to sit at picnic tables but everything was blowing. They said the wind with the rain there was quite strong and blew over they umbrellas which were down in and 50lb bases

BTW best darned hot dogs I’ve ever had. Their condiments were awesome too

      1. Weston Nursery indeed. Daughters first pony was boarded off of Clinton St Hopkinton. She spent years riding him through those nurseries. Beautiful area

  27. JBJ gave the Sox a 4-1 lead with the 3-run homer.
Great, but Suckholz coughed up the lead. Back to his old form.
    He never lets you down.
    Toronto 6, Red Sox 4

    Gimmie a break!!!

  28. Well the Jets and Bills both lost today, so even if the patriots get pounded by the Cards it will be like its week one next week. I honestly think the pats defense will keep the pats within striking distance though of a win.

  29. Most of us remember where we were on 9-11-01. It was one of those events. Of all the things I remember about that Tuesday morning was what an absolutely beautiful late summer morning it was…deep, beautiful blue sky, crisp feel to the air and low humidity.

Blessings on all who lost loved ones on that day, especially the first responders, and all who hurt. I just watched a wonderful tribute called “The Red Bandanna” on ESPN about Wells Crowther of Boston College who saved many that day but lost his own life. Wow.

    God Bless America.

Tonight’s the last 7 pm sunset for now.

    Go Pats!

  30. It’s worth repeating, David Ortiz is the greatest clutch hitter ever in the history of the game. Our great, great grandchildren will still be talking about the legend (by then some will think it’s a myth) of Ortiz. He singlehandedly lifted the Sox to an improbable victory today. He’s done this countless times. He’s money. He defines clutch. Webster dictionary should provide as a synonym for clutch, David Ortiz. More than any superstar in any sport, in my opinion. And, he’s retiring on top of the world. I don’t know any other athlete who’s hung up his cleats with MVP numbers.

  31. Dew point crashed today. Started out here at 70. It’s dropped all day and now it’s at 50. I expect the low temp in the morning to bottom out around 50 or maybe upper 40’s. Depends on how far that DP drops.
Got a big 0.1″ of rain today.

  32. Jets, Bills and Dolphins all lost today so at worst, everyone will start tied for first/last at 0-1. Best case, Pats win with a one game lead.

We will know one way or another in just a few hours.

  33. Anyone else watching the US Open? Very surprising turn of events today, Djokovic may be about to lose the match.

  34. Pats are playing well on the whole, would hate to see a great effort lost due to turnovers. The Blount fumble especially was terrible. Still up 3 starting the 4th though.

  35. It’s endlessly amusing to me browsing FB to see how many people gave up on them when they fell behind with loads of time left on the clock. So are they supposed to give up too, put the ball down, and walk off the field?

I’m sorry, but if you are in the game, you play the game. Win or lose, you play until the end of the game. I hope they hang on and win just for the sake of those that turned off the TV and went to bed. 😛 If nothing else, they will miss a thrilling ending.
