Perfect Summer Weekend

9:44AM

If you are in the Boston area, summer weekends don’t get much better than this one. Saturday: Lots of sun, a few developing fair-weather clouds, not too humid, very warm but not overly hot, light sea breeze coast. Sunday: Lots of sun, turning more humid, a bit hotter, light land breeze. Admittedly, I’m sure some of you that are not fans of heat won’t like Sunday as much, but when you think of classic summer weather, you know a day like that is going to be part of it here at times. We can thank a high pressure area sitting over us for the great weather this weekend. However, as this high builds offshore and a cold front moves in from the west on Monday, the stage will be set for thunderstorms which can occur over about a 12 hour period. We’ll have to watch for some severe thunderstorms, but I don’t expect a widespread severe weather outbreak at this point. Once we get by the storm threat of Monday, more great summer weather is ready for the balance of next week!

Detailed Boston area forecast…

TODAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Very warm and dry. High 85 to 90 except slightly cooler along the shore. Wind light variable with coastal sea breezes.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Mild and more humid. Low 64 to 69. Wind light S.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Hotter and more humid. High 87 to 92. Wind W up to 10 mph.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy and hazy. Warm and muggy. Low 70 to 75. Wind SW up to 10 mph.

MONDAY: Partly sunny and hazy. Showers and thunderstorms any time in the afternoon. Thunderstorms may be strong to severe in some locations. Hot and muggy. High 85 to 90. Wind SW 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 61. High 82.

  1. If you are a fan of the heat you will like the both the 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks from the Climate Prediction Center.
The highlights next week are the possiblity of some severe weather here on Monday. Thunderstorm Index at a 2 for Monday and will be adjusted if needed. The other a Potential heat wave for parts of SNE with some of the hottest summer temperatures we have seen so far. Looks like my fans and AC will get a workout.

  2. Awwwww there goes my guess of 9 days :(. I’m not a fan of heat but its part of summer and I wouldn’t trade the seasons for anything. We haven’t had a good storm in too long glad I’m not on the BZ blog or I’d get criticized for that. I don’t mean destructive just exciting!!

  3. Yes Vicki, and so much for my 11 days as well. It looks like Hadi (18) should win easily and if August is as hot, we may come close if not surpass last year’s 24 days. Don’t forget September can be hot too at times.

I really thought that we would have a nice, “normal” summer this time around with a 90 degree day here and there but mostly normal if not a bit below normal most days.

    1. Oh and btw, Jeremy Reiner in his blog stated that we are right now at the halfway point to summer!…looking forward to fall to say the least with this big heat wave coming up this week. 🙂

  4. Here is a strange but interesting note…at 8:00 pm obs Boston has the lowest dp in SNE at 55 while all other locals dp’s are in the low-mid 60s. Only Fitchburg and Worcester have dp’s under 60 (59).

    This is bizzare…don’t you think?

  5. Hey Philip…. I think I will be ready for fall should that heat wave materialize late next week. My favorite times of the year are winter, fall, and the first part of spring when things comeback to life.

  6. I had a bet with a couple of colleagues on how much snow we had this past winter and I was off to say the least!! So maybe I will get this one:). Only time will tell!! Either way at least all the trolls on BZ blog can zip it about summer being like2009.

  7. Current Temp of 79F, current Dew Point of 77F !!!!………location………….Minneapolis, MN !! Their forecasted low tonight is again somewhere around 80F. Wonder what percentage of their population has access to A/C ?

  8. Dewpoints are still in the 50’s at least in Boston for now. This could very well be the best weekend for the remainder of the month especially “dew point”wise. No more dp’s under 60 anytime soon. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see near 80 dp’s as well at times. If it’s going to hit 70, why not make it 80 and get it over with…no real difference. Either way many miserable days (and nights) to come.

I also thought I heard Joe this morning suggest that triple digits are quite possible as well…yuck! 🙁

  9. Before we get to the heat got some nasty thunderstorms possible tomorrow. Storm Prediction Center has us in the slight risk and a 30% chance of severe weather for a good part of SNE. Will see if anything changes when this get updated around 1:30 pm.

    1. Why am I not surprised at your comment Gayle. 🙂 You are going to love it this week (as am I).

  10. Hi everyone. I figure we’ve been lucky so far it’s why I didn’t even mind the cool rain earlier in spring. I’m NOT a heatwave person. I love open windows and fresh air. I love all season changes but the smell of fall and then snow in the air followed by early spring are my favorite. The wind has really picked up here but it’s a warm wind. We finally turned ACs on

    1. Hey Vicki- You need the a/c on. I just got back from brant Rock, sad story about this young man. They are now just trying to find his body as this happened at 8:30 last night. His friend was arrested on oui charges. I grew up
right down the street in fieldston, lots of sad stories that I remember growing up in Marshfield.

      1. John that is traffic. I was afraid alcohol was involved. I remember lots of the stories from that area. There’s a strong curent at Humarock too where the ocean meets the river.

These temps must make your work days very hot but I bet that pool feels good at night:).

  11. Just saw the 7 day on the BZ blog and 101 forecasted for Friday UGH! My fans and AC will get a workout this week but I really can’t complain since to this point we have not had long stretches of heat and humidity.
Thunderstorm Index remains unchanged. It looks like the Farmers’ Almanac might have gotten this one correct calling for scattered thunderstorm between the 16th-19th. Will see if we get the thunderstorms accompanied by strong gusty winds between the 20th and 23rd of this month.
