More Rain On The Way

10:44PM

It’s not too often we see tropical downpours and muggy air with a north wind, but we did today in eastern New England. The drier air was hiding behind a weak cold front to the north, which is sliding south across the region this evening. The showers and storms have ended and the air will begin to dry very slightly overnight. There will still be enough moisture in the air for areas of fog and low clouds to form as the temperature cools down overnight, but any of that will dissipate early Tuesday as the sun rises. Sunshine will give way to increasing high & eventually middle clouds on Tuesday as the next low pressure system approaches from the west. This system will bring a pretty good slug of rain in overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday. With heaviest rain likely over by the middle of Wednesday, it should remain unsettled through the evening. Drier weather is expected to arrive Thursday and last through Saturday, before yet another low pressure area brings a chance of wet weather for the second half of the weekend.

    1. Have fun in Rockport, Hadi! I wonder if your plans include Bearskin Neck – nice shops and some pretty views.

      1. Yes we went to lunch at restaurant over looking the ocean! It was a spectacular morning and now you can the deck of clouds rolling in.

        1. I love Rockport and bearskin neck. We haven’t been this year so I’ll pretend I’m there with you today 🙂

  1. I noticed this morning that Dylan Dreyer is now sporting a ring on her left hand. I guess Congratulations to Dylan are in order and I hope that someday it happens to Melissa as well. 🙂

Also of note, I notice that FOX-25 now has a 7-day forecast…now if only Harvey and Ch. 5 would get into the 21st century like everyone else. It’s a wonder they aren’t using magic markers, lol. 🙂

Surprisingly, Ch. 5 was the first station in Boston to use “color radar” on its weathercasts back in the mid 1970’s. I remember it well. The mets at the time were Bob Copeland, Bob Ryan, Bill Hovey and occasionally Mark Rosenthal.

    1. I also remember when Ch. 5 started using “color radar”. I am not sure, but I think the day they introduced it there were storms in the area . . .

Also – when Bob Ryan (or Bob Copeland? not sure) left Ch. 5 I switched to Ch. 4! 🙂

  2. You mentioned Bob Copeland.
You know when he wanted to be (Read that as put in the effort), he was the
absolute best in the business. Unfortunately, he would sometimes “mail” it in.

  3. Hi Rain,

World of difference between Bob Ryan and Bob Copeland. Ryan was more recent at
Ch. 5, while Copeland was way back when. I believe that Bob Copeland finished up at
Ch. 5 somewhere around the early 80s or so.

      1. In fact I believe Copeland was still there in 1986, because I have a video clip from April 1 when they dumped fake snow on him on the air.

    1. Ryan and Scott switched jobs: Scott went from WRC (NBC) to the Today Show while Ryan went from Today to WRC. He was chief met. there from 1980 to 2010, when he moved to the ABC affiliate in Washington, WJLA.
