Quiet Times

11:31PM

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for all but Cape Cod and the Islands for Tuesday. This could be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning for high fire danger, due to dry ground and brush, dry weather and very dry air, along with a gusty breeze. Use extreme caution with anything that could create a spark or small fire outdoors.

The weather will be rather quiet through the coming weekend as high pressure dominates, with one interruption coming in the form of a frontal system with lots of clouds Tuesday night into Wednesday. Temperatures will be held back from warming up significantly until probably Sunday, when it may break into the 60s. But it won’t be all that cold either, with most days in the 50s, which is not that bad for early April.

Updated forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

OVERNIGHT: Clear. Low from the middle 20s inland valleys to middle 30s at the coast. Wind N 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY: Sunny. High 53-58. Wind N 10-20 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds NW to SE. Low 35-40. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Decreasing clouds NW to SE. High 54-59. Wind W 10-20 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 32. High 53.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 33. High 55.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 35. High 58.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 39. High 63.

    1. Had. Youngs travel. We have used them before. $3,185 for three. That is inside cabin. Don’t like to throw this personal info out, but wanted your opinion since your in the business. Thank-you for your help. Oh 7 nights .

        1. Bermuda, hopefully. Need to make a decision. Did not see the comment regarding you, sorry. Some looser had nothing better to do. I tend to agree on what coastal said. Make this a login site. What we say here should stay here. We should not have to worry about some troll reading here and than posting are names and maybe what we said over at wbz. Just my two cents.

          1. That will be wonderful. My business associate just returned from Bermuda.

I think I agree about a log in site – esp since FB is open.

          2. John – my husband and me went to Bermuda on our honeymoon. It wasn’t a cruise, but it was beautiful. It was back in 1974 so I imagine it has changed. But Bermuda is beautiful. We stayed at the Southampton Hotel in Southampton. Don’t know if it is still there.
And you can count me in too, if there is a vote about keeping this blog more private. I would prefer a login site. I love this site too much and I care about the people here to have other people criticize what we say.

            1. It would be a cruise from Boston. Second time but a different ship. We just booked it. 10 yr anniversary in September. That is why were going. To much risk in late August/ September with hurricanes.

              1. I’m with your wife!! Our kids have always gone with us – we didn’t start to take vacations with just the two of us till our 25th anniversary. Even now the kids love to spend time with us on vacation. It’s great!

  1. I have a colleague coming from San Diego starting next week for a couple of months to work with us on a project. Looking ahead, I’m thinking we could have some warm or even hot weather, especially as we get into May, so he should pack accordingly.

Anybody willing to go out on a limb and predict general trends for the next couple of months? This is an interesting transitional time of year for the weather, so I’m guessing we could see quite a range.

    Thanks!

  2. The system that produced a little rain for us the other day is turning into a whopper of a storm in the north atlantic. Looks to slam into the southern coast of Newfoundland and Labrador with some heavy snow, rain, and wind

  3. Boy the BZ blog picked up right where it left off yesterday. I know we said not to talk about it but I can’t resist. I don’t comment there anymore, just take a quick glance when I need a good laugh. They were picking on us yesterday for having a civil discussion about the definition of a blizzard and yet today they are having a non-civil argument about whether or not Melissa should be thanked for writing a blog entry every morning. And we’re the crazy ones?? 🙄

    1. I don’t go there – it seems most are there simply because they’ve found an outlet for their unhappiness and want to spread the wealth. I’ll have to look for a laugh. How do you argue about being thanked?

          1. Your daughter has a birthday coming up right. I ask because our kids birthdays are close. My son will be eight on the 16th.

  4. Tk. What do you think about making this a login site. I guess I kind of look at me as the Stewart of the blog, watching out over are fellow and loyal bloggers. It bothers me. When one of our own gets attacked by anybody. Although you run things here, and do a fabulous job at it, why not consider it. If people with good intentions want to come here, they would not mind a sign in, in my oppinion. Or what about having your faithful bloggers here take it to vote. Again I thank you for everything that you do here. Please consider the question that I presented to you. Have a great day Tk.

    1. Who ever it is has got to be someone that’s joined recently, like in the last month or shorter 🙂

    2. I agree too – not because something was said about me because I take that from the source so don’t worry about it but because we are a close group and I don’t want to see anyone’s comments taken out of context by an unhappy person. I don’t understand what bothers others about this blog. They could all be here if they wanted. All you have to do is enjoy weather and be respectful.

    1. I saw that and also the 12z GFS which is a bit cooler than yesterday. Either way you slice it, it is going to be a bright sunny weekend and whether temps are in the upper 50’s or 60’s, the sun feels nice and warm this time of year.

Yes, Tim Kelly (NECN) predicted this would be a huge Atlantic storm, the kind that’s beautiful on satellite imagery. Almost shows up like a mini hurricane with a pronounced curl surrounding the “eye.” Had this low, which initially was a clipper, traversed south of us and reignited off the mid Atlantic coast, we could have had ourselves a similar scenario to April 1, 1997, especially given the relatively cold air that would have coincided with the storm’s arrival. Alas, not this year.

    1. This year may have been lackluster for us in terms of snow, but it seems like the Canadian maritimes have been getting pounded repeatedly all winter.

      1. Yes, indeed. Not only that, Northeast Maine (I mean way up! Places like Mars Hill (which even sounds far away), Presque Isle, Van Buren) has fared well in both the snow and temperature departments. Not a bonanza season, but near normal. The northern branch of the jetstream often skirted the Canadian border this past winter, which meant that places just to the north were basically in the snowstorm track. For example, I believe Quebec City will finish this year with average to above average snowfall, though less cold than normal.

        1. I agree – the NY/VT/NH Canadian border seemed to be the demarcation this year between normal winter and no winter at all.

        1. When I lived there I would chase storms and 1 time got caught at a shell station south of Dallas in a city called Mansfield, there storms r real storms compared to here that’s all I’ll say

          1. Worcester tornado was one of deadliest in history.

The power of tornadoes is terrifying. One report I just heard said that a debris field ball (I believe they called it) is showing up on radar. It may have been a several minute old report.

  6. anyone tracking the storms down in the Dallas area. I am looking at radar and currently 2 storms look like they are producing tornadoes one to the east of Dallas and one to the west. there are also other cells to the south west that are currently forming and are not in urban areas but seems to be moving north and northeast which is what most super cells travel and produce tornadoes. i would not be surprised if there are more than the ones around dallas. I feel bad for the people effected but thunderstorms and tornadoes are fun to track.

    1. Matt I’ve been watching too. My sister-in-law lived in that area for years and has a lot of friends there.

  7. Just incredible pictures coming out of the Dallas Fort Worth Area.
Tornado Warning still up for the city of Dallas and I hope we don’t hear about loss of life considering these tornadoes that have touched down have hit some populated areas.

    1. Tornadoes are terrifying everywhere but when they hit a city it’s …………… I can’t even come up with the right word 🙁

      1. There is a picture of tractor trailers being tossed through the air. They look like tiny lionel model trains.

  8. TK, I don’t know if you are checking in or not but I keep getting the feeling that the forecast for weekend temps are going down.

  9. So, where does the big precip maker come from ? Seems like the big picture pattern is trof-ridge-trof across the US…but the trof is oriented in such a way that’s it’s long term cool, dry N or NW flow out of Canada.

With the dry air, this is a very cool feeling 55F to 60F.

    1. I walk everyday and I notice that there is quite a difference between walking on the sunny versus shady side of the street.

  10. Hey! I read the WBZ blog b/c it’s kind of like a train wreck–I should know better, but I just can’t help myself. I feel like a prude saying it but this morning’s was disgraceful–I actually grew up in Brooklyn and have certainly heard a thing or two, but still. If we go to a sign-in thing, that’s fine–just don’t lose people like me. I read everyday, but don’t have a whole lot to say, and don’t want to waste your time. I appreciate everyone’s knowledge!

Those tornadoes in Dallas were beyond awful. I think we all should say a little prayer.

    1. I’m thinking TK has all our email addresses and can get to us. But you are right about losing anyone. But that is a huge concern. Although I notice the email address associated with my iPad is wrong. Hmmmmm

    2. Its a good thing most of it went south, most of Dallas population is north of Dallas, my friends said they had pea size hail and winds in the 40’s, they live in the Addison area, hope everything’s ok

    3. Deb nice of you to mention saying a prayer. Ive said a couple for everyone there. I haven’t heard an update.

  11. Good evening all!
    A few things…

    1) Tornadoes in Dallas area were amazing. Thoughts and prayers to all impacted. My best friend used to live right in that area and still has friends down there. She is hoping they are all ok. Property is one thing. Lives are much more.

    2) Again thanks everybody for contributing to the blog. Just a reminder, while differences of opinion are fine and often prompt great discussion, please remember to be civil to each other. For the most part this has been followed nicely here, so at the moment I am not going to make it a log-in-only site. But that possibility remains on the table. I still monitor the incoming posts on a daily basis and must approve all first-time posters. The spam bots are often quite busy hitting this and other sites, so some days I have hundreds of incoming posts to deal with. I ask for your patience if you are a first time poster and you have not been approved.

    3) My apologies for being an absentee here today. A very busy day had me on the road for much of it, including my son’s first soccer practice of the season. For once, wet fields are not going to delay the start of the Spring season, which seemed to be a pretty regular event recently.

    4) I’ll be working on an update shortly. I am becoming a little more concerned about the weather for Sunday. Though I am not going to dump into a crap forecast just yet, I’m a little worried about low pressure backing in on us and turning a nice morning into a much cooler, cloudier afternoon, depending on timing. At 5 days away, there is much time to refine this forecast.

  12. Thanks TK! Your efforts to make this blog what it is today are very much appreciated 🙂

  13. I’d just like to chime in here for a second to say that I understand everyone’s frustrations with some poster’s comments, but I am hoping that this remains a site that is not log-in. I know very little about weather, meteorology, etc., (I’m a grade school teacher) but enjoy casually learning about it all and I stumbled across this website and am fascinated by the discussions and everyone’s expertise.
I don’t know of any other forums like this and I just wanted to say that I’d be disappointed by losing it! 🙂 I don’t intend to comment anymore, but like it strictly to broaden my understanding and I’m guessing there are others like me who read but don’t comment.
Thanks for the great discussions everyone!

    1. There is no reason to hold back if you have a comment or question. You do not have to be knowledgeable in weather to chat about it here.

That goes for anybody. No pressure to comment, but please feel free!!

    2. Hi ST617 – please comment – I have little knowledge of why what happens when but am learning. In the meantime, everyone here is always willing to explain. It’s nice to have new people’s “faces” on the blog 🙂

  14. Thanks TK for keeping us informed! No need to apologize for your absense. You have your personal life to take care of as well. It’s not like there is any storms to monitor.

I agree with you for now not to make this a log-in site. It might actually keep good posters away as well. As for the WBZ trolls, they will always make their comments regardless of how this site is run. They probably see us as “deserters” or whatever and will never let us forget it. If they start calling any of us by “name”, then I certainly will hit the “report comment” button like I did when Vicki’s name was mentioned in a very rude comment.

Hopefully, once we get into late spring and summer, the trolls will take their vacations from their electronic devices for awhile. I am somewhat surprised with such quiet weather they are so vocal lately. I don’t get it. ❓

  15. Made a little comment on the latest WBZ blog, lol.

At any rate, Grateful Dead on Thursday and Friday at the Wang Center, anyone else going?
