Tuesday July 8 2025 Forecast (6:56AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 8-12)

The remains of Chantal clipped Cape Cod and the Islands with heavy showers and thunderstorms in the early morning hours today, but have exited that region. We’re left with a another humid day, quite warm (not as hot as yesterday most areas). A cold front moving through the region from north to south will trigger additional showers and thunderstorms in scattered / clustered form mainly this afternoon, with a second surge possible in some areas tonight into early Wednesday as the front becomes mainly stationary just to the south. A little push from high pressure to the northeast should then limit the shower chances to the South Coast and well west of Boston for the balance of Wednesday, before a disturbance from the west increases the chances and coverage from west to east on Thursday, tapering off Friday as the disturbance continues onward to the east. Weak high pressure takes over Saturday with better weather. I am optimistic that the previously-mentioned disturbance and shower chance for Saturday will be something that occurs north of our region.

TODAY: Variably cloudy. Scattered to clustered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, some storms can be locally severe and some can produce torrential downpours with flooding. Highs 82-89 except 75-82 South Coast. Dew point 70+. Wind variable to SW 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Patchy fog. Additional scattered to clustered showers and thunderstorms. Lows 66-73. Dew point middle to upper 60s. Wind variable to N up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy – some limited sun possible. Scattered showers anywhere early, then favoring areas south of I-90 and west of I-495 later on. Highs 75-82, coolest coast. Dew point 60+. Wind N to E up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 61-68. Dew point 60+. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely, especially midday and afternoon. Chance of a thunderstorm. Highs 71-78. Dew point in 60s. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely. Patchy fog. Lows 61-68. Dew point 60+. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers diminish. Highs 71-78. Dew point in 60s. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 60-67. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 73-80, coolest coast. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 13-17)

Fair and warmer July 13 to finish off the weekend. Disturbance and frontal system brings a shower / thunderstorm chance to the region July 14 into July 15 followed by fair weather by the middle of next week. No major heat.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 18-22)

Into mid period, moderate humidity and temperatures, mainly fair weather with high pressure to the north dominant, keeping low pressure to the south far enough away to limit shower chances. Later in the period some indications of high pressure building aloft with hotter weather again.

  1. I don’t mind when temps. are in the 80s and it’s humid. It’s summer, after all. But the smell of smoke is ruining it. I like taking early walks on days like this but the smoke bothers my allergy. I don’t know if anyone will answer this – but why have there been so many forest fires in Canada the past few years?

      1. Thank you, Vicki! Fascinating to see those satellite images and the explanations. Also, if I read it right, how some thunerstorms above the smoke can intensify the smoke.

  2. Thanks, TK!

Continued prayers for your Mom, TK.
Please also take care of yourself.

  3. Thanks TK
Continue to holding good thoughts for your mom.
    Happy Birthday Captain!

  4. Thank you TK!

Happy Birthday Captain! I am curious if you are still going to be the football announcer now that you have retired? I was hoping to sneak over to a Middleboro game if my schedule allowed.

  5. 88 at Logan
    90 at Norwood
    87 here with dp 74 !!!!

We made 88 here yesterday while Logan hit 90.

Looks like we’ll all make 90 today.

      1. Wordle has a setting for “Dark Theme” that I have enabled. This is why I have black boxes where yours are gray.

        1. I used thst fora bit and forgot about it. It’s where you are required to use letters already guessed??? Or is that something else

          1. That’s called “Hard Mode.” I have that turned on too.

“Dark Theme” doesn’t change the way the game is played – just the display.

    1. five for me. It finally just jumped out at me like a NEON sign!!
Wish it came a guess or 2 earlier. 🙂 🙂 I feel a little better that I solved it. Looks like Tom gave up.

  6. Wind at Logan and Norwood is around to the WNW.
I wonder how high that will allow the temperature to rise?

Using the 850MB temperature method, it woud suggest a potential high temperature of 92 with it being 18C at 850 mb.(according to 13Z HRRR)

  7. I love that description YUCKAPALOZZA! Will add that word to STICKORAMA GROSSORAMA

  8. Odd. Both of the nearby nws stations are off line. They are within a mile-ish from me and very close to each other.

I have no idea if there is one but Can they go off line with a power outage.

  9. With the WNW to NW winds around now, the dew points
    are coming down a bit.

    Down to 70 at Logan.

    But we’re up to 90 here,but dp here is still a DISGUSTING 73 !!!!
This weather blows chunks!!! As TK sprints around the yard eating this up. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  10. Thanks TK !

    Prayers for your mom !

    Happy Birthday, Captain !

Got wordle in 5 guesses, I’ve had 5 and 6 guesses lately along with one where I didn’t get the word.

    1. We’re in the same boat, except I didn’t get the word like 3 or 4 times. 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. It made me feel better a day or 2 ago when I believe Vicki said this was a tougher level of words they’ve been selecting.

        1. Most everyone I know who plays think the words are harder. Harder may not be as accurate as odder. I was mostly in the 3,4, occasional 5 category. Now it’s 5,6 and a fail

I also have with rare exception solved within 15 minutes of when they come out at midnight. Now, it’s quite often where I enter a few guesses and end up putting it aside till morning.

00z Euro 850 mb temp projections, medium and long range.

After today in the short term, 90F is taking a break, but these 850 mb temps offer air masses that are plenty capable of 90F later again in the month.

Going to be at 15 (90F) days by month’s end at Logan ? Last year after August 3rd or 4th, the hot, humid weather stopped. Are we to be so lucky again this year?

      1. That would be ok as cape vacation starts next week. Repeat of quiet August would also be terrific. From your mouth to God’s ear.

      2. That’s Hampton beach starting on the 18th ( next week ) it’s usually hot it seems

  12. https://radar.weather.gov/station/KGYX/standard

So far, the 00z HRRR is verifying nicely on this convection in coastal Maine.

If I recall it correctly, the HRRR almost says these storms south and even a bit southwestward.

I’m a little concerned for some flash flooding somewhere later on.

Plenty of heat and humidity, a front sagging southeastward, also another boundary acting like a backdoor front moving southwestward and the south coast seabreeze may all meet somewhere just south of Boston to Worcester later this afternoon, into early evening.

  13. Thanks to y’all for your birthday wishes! Today is my 65th birthday and the first official day of my retirement! I can remember being in grammar school in the mid-1960s trying to figure out my exact retirement date (July 8, 2025), and day is the today!!! Seems like yesterday.

Sue, I saw your question from a couple of weeks ago (and this morning) about my continuing to do the football PA announcing and, unfortunately, no, I have decided to stop announcing games in addition to my teaching duties. As much as I love it and will miss the kids, I feel that I need new adventures in my life and that it would be really weird to have an emotional farewell in June and then reappear at school the second week of September.

I want to be able to enjoy attending the football game and not have to work it. I was usually so busy in the booth that I never actually watched the game, if that makes sense. I will be back to see the kids on a nice autumn evening.

I had to laugh. When everyone found out that I was no longer the PA announcer at the Friday Night Lights games, everyone was asking “Who’s going to be the new announcer?” Not one person asked who the new Spanish teacher was!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Perhaps, Sue, that will free me up to go and see Capt. Bus!!! I know you and your family are so proud. Now that school is out and the Fourth of July holiday has passed, I am sure he’s lifting and working out with the team during “Captains’ Practice.”

Thanks for asking, Sue. That means a lot to me.

    1. What a great post. I’m sending wishes for the new and much deserved chapter of your life to be as special as you’d hoped….even more so.

FWIW while I cannot recall the reason, I mentioned you to my grandson a few days ago and told him you teach Spanish. ❤️

        1. Well 🙂

One if we could afford it and that could go either way.

I can’t see doing more than another 4

So, as early as June 2026 and no more than 4 more school years. It’s the health insurance as much as the money.

    2. Captain, I don’t blame you one bit for stepping out of the booth and becoming “just a fan”. I have been on the Gridiron Board for the last five years and there are often times I think that I should take a step back and “just be a football mom”. Home games are a tough when we are responsible for getting the concession stand set up and all that goes along with game prep. I would rather just sit back and watch Captain Bus lead his team in warmups.

Pre-season is well underway with lifting, conditioning, and 7v7 leagues. Bus made the 1000 pound club last year with lifting so I suspect he will do so again. Just so happens that their first game is on my birthday this year. No place I would rather be than at the field on my birthday.

Congratulations again the retirement and may your new adventures bring nothing but joy!

    1. Thanks, Joshua!

I really enjoyed your thoughts on the recent Gold Cup! Our sons are from Guatemala and I followed the games of the “GuateBoys” in the Gold Cup quite closely. They had one of the best tournaments in their country’s history, upsetting Jamaica and Canada before losing, in a very close game, to the USA, 2-1. With the US, Mexico and Canada automatically qualifying for next year’s World Cup because they’re the host countries, Guatemala might have an easier chance to play next summer in the finals for the first time ever.

Leo Messi is in town tomorrow night when Inter Miami plays the Revs at Gillette.

  14. I have a 2:30-3:30 appt in Milford. Hoping the storms hold but not all that hopeful that they will.

  15. I didn’t want to hear hot stretch potential after July 20th as I will be down in Virginia that week. If it is hot up here more than likely hot down there.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning north of me and more thunderstorm activity in the Hudson River Valley of NY.

  16. .A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 230 PM EDT
    FOR CENTRAL LITCHFIELD COUNTY…

At 158 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near New Preston, or
10 miles southwest of Torrington, moving east at 20 mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

    SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to
    roofs, siding, and trees.

    Locations impacted include…
Torrington, Litchfield, Northwest Harwinton, New Preston, Harwinton,
Bethlehem, Washington, Goshen, Morris, Roxbury, Warren, Bantam, West
Torrington, Torringford, Haight Vineyard, West Goshen, Wrightville,
Lower Merryall, Marble Dale, and East Litchfield.

  17. The severe thunderstorm warning in CT I mentioned and Captain showed the text for extended into parts of Hartford county.

  18. I am sure someone posted it here somewhere, but, there’s a Flood Watch out, at least for my area, until 2 in the morning.

  19. No surprise the Flood Watch is up as we are in a level 2 out of 4 risk for excessive rainfall today. These thunderstorms are not moving fast and with all the humidity this could lead to some poor drainage flooding.

  20. Why do I get the feeling that today will feature action More to the South of Boston like we have already seen this year. Still plenty of time, but it looks to be setting up South again. We shall see. Watching….

      1. I doubt it, but certainly possible. We shall see. My grass is turning brown. I REFUSE to spend money to water it. 🙂

      1. Oh I agree.

        Not much in that direction.

I’m wondering if it’s something late this afternoon that materializes very close in the 128 belt and then tracks ESE towards the Boston area.

        1. Perhaps. The trough, the front or whatever? I am sitting here on my laptop in a room with the AC running Not doing anything but watching Netflix and checking the radar and stopping in here. 🙂

          1. Sounds like a nice low key day.

Cooked lunch and doing the same, radar watching and checking in here 🙂

  21. Seabreze boundaries just like where I go in Florida Sarasota area. Im hearing thunder to the south here in Warwick near the airport.

    1. The seabreeze thunderstorms are cool.

We experienced one in April on coastal South Carolina near Edisto Beach.

Very locally developed, neat to watch.

      1. We had one right here in JP several years ago and it was VICIOUS!!!! Don’t happen often, but they do happen from time to time. Ocean has to be reasonably warm for that to happen and air mass extremely moist. We may have check check on that. yes yes

except we don’t have a sea breeze

  22. Dark and thundering now here in downtown Hartford. Just watching the wall of rain approaching from over Avon Mountain to the west.

  23. Happy birthday/retirement Captain! 🙂

I will be turning 65 myself on 11/29! I was born on the same date as TK’s daughter iirc. Unfortunately I had to retire a year early (10/15/24) due to severe knee pain. My surgery was on April 29 and been receiving outpatient PT since June. I have since progressed from a walker to a cane. Still aways to go before I can walk w/o assistance. Overall my pain level is now 5 out of 10 (10 the worst). When I first returned from the hospital my pain was 10+.

Medicare will come calling for me soon no doubt. Have you signed up yet?

Looking back I probably should have retired as soon as I moved to Quincy as I only ended up working a little more than 2 months. The pain kept getting worse and worse. I had hoped to continue working until age 67. Just as well. 🙂

Enjoy your life Captain! Hope you continue to post here! 🙂

    1. So sorry you had such severe pain. I am very glad to hear you are improving.

I love Medicare. I have bcbs as a supplement.

  24. CF, Guatemala had a great Gold Cup tournament.

In the 1970s we had foreign students from, among other countries, Guatemala, Venezuela, Colombia, and Mexico. They did homestays in our house to improve their English. My mother also ran a program for international students in which she placed them in host families throughout the Boston area. I helped her during the summers when I was home.I learned so much about other cultures.

  25. Home from my appointment and nothing happening here.

I have 85 and 73 dp but My closest nws station is still down. I like to use it to double check my sensors

  26. I get the impression that little to no rain for the Boston-Worcester-Springfield corridor. Strictly CT-RI-SE MA-Cape. Any lawns north will remain parched until further notice.

I have a bad feeling those awful “fall” colors will return to the Drought Monitor Map anytime now. Back to “fire danger” levels?

    1. Beginning to look that way. So what happened to some of the models that were predicted 2 inches + of rain for today?????
      Interesting….
If this were a Winter Snow that went bust or to the South, I’d be going mad. Now, I am just in Awe of Mother Nature. The atmosphere is somehting else.

      1. Keep in mind that these predictions are for potential precipitation, not 100% coverage. There have been some showers and storms today that have produced 1 to 2 inches of rain in localized areas. This was also what my forecast alluded to. Not everybody. Maybe the coverage was a little less than the maximum expectation, but the activity still has (and is) occurring in response to the front moving through the region.

  27. Going, Going, GONE….

    Will anything else pop up?
    Was the flood watch warranted?

Just a couple of questions I have

    Surface analysis

    https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/90fwbg.gif

this is more than an hour old. The dp dropped here,so I’d say that front passed here a little while ago. And I’d further say, I don’t expect a drop of rain here until if/when a wave moves along the front at some point.

    1. Yes, the flood watch was warranted, as conditions are still favorite near the South Coast to have flash flooding from slow-moving cells. This will be the case into early tomorrow, actually. It doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee, but since it’s possible, they issue a “watch”. They will issue a “warning” if imminent or occurring. That’s the entire purpose for a watch. And if it doesn’t occur, it’s not a false alarm.

  28. The cell just south of PVD may be producing flash flooding momentarily, if not already.

  29. 88F, DP 75F.

It is harder to take than the 102F, low 60s DP back on June 24th.

Can hear thunder and see a dark southern horizon from the storm to our south.

The NE wind switch is thru the NH/MA border on the north shore. Let’s see if that boundary adds any convergence ….

      1. That marine layer is charging towards Boston

Dramatic temp drop next 1-3 hrs with low clouds moving in (near the immediate coast)

  30. I just watched Hampton Beach go from mostly sunny to totally fogged in over a matter of minutes. Fascinating, even on the web cam. 🙂

Temp dropped from 91 to 75 (so far)…

    1. Neat !! Starting to see the boundary on weather.us radar. Approaching Lynn, Logan soon !

  31. Tweet from Colin McCarthy:

Millions of Californians in the Bay Area and NorCal have likely just lived through their coldest early summer on record.

The region (shaded in dark blue) has seen record-low temperatures in the last 30 days.

San Francisco has had just a single 70 degree day since June 1.

    https://x.com/US_Stormwatch/status/1942710330456695006

    1. Lot of neutral or negative PNA with more forecast 2nd half of the month.

      Translation: cool west.

  32. Despite the intense heat in the Northeast briefly, the nation as a whole experience only its 18th warmest June on record. Not impressive overall. This shows you that when only one type of weather is focused on, a lot of other weather gets missed. I say it all the time – mainly because it’s a fact.

Through 7 days of July, Boston’s running a +4.5F, which is notable, but also larger departures tend to be more prominent with a smaller sample size.

Through 7 days of July in 1911, the departure was about +14F. Now that’s hot stuff – and the hot spell was still a week away from breaking. SIX days of 100+ in Nashua NH.

Just putting things into proper perspective.

    Boston’s July 1911 heat spell included a 5-day heatwave and a 4-day heatwave, with a brief break between them…
    Heatwave #1…
    July 2: 96F
    July 3: 102F
    July 4: 104F
    July 5: 95F
    July 6: 101F

    Heatwave #2…
    July 9: 94F
    July 10: 98F
    July 11: 100F
    July 12: 98F

    Yeah, that’s hot.

    1. I saw that. I think it was 8 for MA and tied for third for warmest low…im going from memory.

And I am really stretching my memory for this. It may have been the third hottest worldwide after 2023? And more certain 2024

      1. I had the years reversed. It wss third after 2024 and 2023 (hottest). Records since 1940 and we all know how I feel about that

    1. Hilarious!

But why must every snowstorm be hyped like that. This is New England:)

  33. It was pouring in Plymouth when I left work around 5:30. I drove out of the rain as I reached Plympton.

  34. https://ibb.co/xppcjWN

Weak low the short range models had, 1016 mb near eastern Mass, Boston, I think has formed as shown by the obs wind reports.

Tstorms firing just south of Boston and trying to extend westward to Springfield.

    Seeing lightning to our north.

    1. Close to here. One cell went just north of us but lightning is close. The one right behind it may just clip here or go further south

  35. From Rt 20 weather in this area SC in Sturbridge May have gotten this.

Posted at 9:10 pm Tuesday 7/8/2025: A pretty loud thunderstorm with fairly frequent lightning & heavy downpours that are producing up to 3 inches per hour rainfall rates is SLOWLY making its way through Sturbridge, Southbridge, Charlton, Dudley and Oxford. This thunderstorm has produced almost one inch of rain here at my place in Sturbridge in less than 30 minutes time.

This thunderstorm is likely to continue across Sturbridge, Southbridge, Dudley, Charlton Oxford and Webster for the next 30-45 minutes or so.

Areas along Route 146 from Sutton to Uxbridge will likely be impacted by this very loud thunderstorm with frequent lightning and heavy downpours starting around 9:45 pm or so.

  36. Storm just moved through here another big lightning producer, similar to the one we had last week, with many close cloud to ground strikes. We also had about .85” in about a half hour.

  37. Hi Vicki, a little too close for comfort on a couple, but all is well, so much fun to watch. I’m out here on my screened in porch where you’ll find me on most storms. Looks like more rain moving in shortly, but looks like much less lightning with this unless it strengthens as it approaches like the one we just had.

    1. I am happy all is ok but so jealous. We had a screened porch in Framingham and that’s where I’d be. No porch here.

  38. Glad you could get in on the action. The cell to my south in Southbridge seems to be getting stronger and I’m seeing lighting starting with this now. I think you may get in on this one in a bit.

    1. Thank you. I was just watching the one over southbridge with my grandson. I we will see if it gets here or just south of me

  39. https://www.goes.noaa.gov/sector_band.php?sat=G19&sector=ne&band=Sandwich&length=24

Cold cloud tops blossoming on storms just south of the Mass Pike.

Also, the thin clouds in the eastern Great Lakes zipping northeastward. We are still in deep southwest flow aloft, so while cooler at the coast and somewhat cooler inland, that light feeling, comfortable dry air of July 4th is not coming in. Still moderate to high humidity in the days to come, but more tolerable with cooler marine air.

  40. Lots of lightning and crackling thunder with about an inch of rain that moved through Westwood. Not quite done yet and there is a cluster of storms that may also clip the area in an hour or so. Much needed rain.

  41. Pretty interesting night unfolding.

South coastal CT is also seeing torrents and west central CT is getting storms.

And of course, what’s happening Worcester eastward.

  42. This cell near Stoughton and other towns. Trudging along and rather wide, so I wonder if that might have localized flooding under it.

  43. A -Rod We definitely needed the rain, the last few weeks have been fairly dry. It’s amazing how quickly the vegetation dries out this time of year, no matter how wet the spring is. It’s unfortunate that it’s not doing much to ease the mosquito situation this year, this is the most I’ve seen in a long time, although I live next to a bunch of wetlands, so that doesn’t help things.

    1. That’s what we had too. And what North saw.

I have not seen anything like it in a long time.

      1. I shared the video here almost an hour ago and in last 15 min have just noticed it letting up

  44. Unfortunately I couldn’t chase that. But the time I was free enough to, it was nearly to Pembroke and Marshfield and I had no shot. Great show from a distance tho!

    1. Come on over here. If the lightning I see out the window heading up from my south Is any indication, I may be under my bed for the first time.

        1. Just had a crack of thunder I’m still coming down from the ceiling from. And thunder doesn’t make me nervous

  45. Despite drop in temperature there’s still oppressive humidity. Relentless.

  46. Boy got woken up at 11:11 pm last night . That was the loudest thunder & lightning was incredibly intense , I was not a fan of that happening at night
