DAYS 1-5 (JULY 12-16)
High pressure offshore, sinking slowly southward, provides mild to warm, humid weather this weekend, with a passing disturbance bringing only the chance of a pop up shower or thunderstorm to the hills of north central MA and southwestern NH this afternoon. Otherwise, it’s a rain-free weekend. Broad scale southeasterly air flow will keep coastal areas cooler than inland areas during the days, and areas of fog will form at night, dissipating after sunrise. Above the low cloud / fog layer this morning is a swath of higher clouds fanning off thunderstorms in Upstate NY, so as clouds break there will still be some other clouds above that, limiting the sun for a while. Tomorrow this should not be the case, and breaking up of the fog and stratus layer will lead to more sunshine. By Monday, a cold front approaches from the west, and a southerly air flow ahead of it bumps up the low level moisture and brings back more cloudiness. Showers and thunderstorms firing up ahead of this front may arrive by late-day, mainly to the west, but much of the day likely ends up being rain-free due to the later timing of the front, which will also be somewhat slow to make its way through the region. This means that southeastern areas can still see a shower or thunderstorm into a portion of Tuesday. High pressure building in for Wednesday but surface and aloft will result in sunshine and very warm weather.
TODAY: Low clouds / fog dissipate to a sun/high cloud mix this morning. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy this afternoon with only a slight chance of a pop-up shower or thunderstorm in the hills of north central MA and/or southwestern NH. Highs 73-80 coastal plain, 80-87 inland. Dew point 65+. Wind E to SE up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Low clouds and areas of fog return. Lows 62-69. Dew point 60+. Wind SE under 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Low clouds / fog give way to sunshine. Highs 75-82 coast, 82-89 inland. Dew point 65+. Wind SE to S up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 65-72. Dew point 65+. Wind S up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the afternoon, favoring areas west of I-95. Highs 82-89. Dew point 65+. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog. Chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows 66-73. Dew point 65+. Wind S to variable up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Additional showers possible RI and southeastern MA. Highs 82-89. Dew point 60+. Wind variable to W up to 10 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 61-68. Dew point falls below 60. Wind NW up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 85-92 but a bit cooler coastal areas especially Cape Cod. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.
DAYS 6-10 (JULY 17-21)
High pressure slides offshore with a bit of heat and humidity July 17. Next cold front moves through July 18 with the potential for showers/thunderstorms across the region. High pressure builds in behind that with fair, seasonably warm weather heading through the July 19-20 weekend through period’s end.
DAYS 11-15 (JULY 22-26)
High pressure builds aloft, probably centered southwest of New England. This is a hotter pattern here, but also a northwest flow which allows a couple disturbance to bring shower and thunderstorm opportunities.
Thank you, TK. Thinking of your mom, you and your family this morning and sending prayers.
Once again thanks to everybody who has sent good thoughts for mom. It continues to be a wait-and-see, day-to-day thing. She’s still being treated for pneumonia at rehab, otherwise being made comfortable. I’ll be making a visit at the beginning of hours today. I have a lot of yard work that needs to be taken care of this weekend, and my own health has limited my ability to do that (the recovery from that virus, while mostly complete, still has me fairly fatigued and still with a lingering cough / post nasal issues, as well as an ongoing autoimmune disease flare up that is at moderate levels and peaking now).
Thank you and please pace yourself. The virus you had was truly nasty.
Thanks TK
Continue to pray for you and your family.
Looks as if Pete saw some rotation last night also.

Same app I use – RadarScope – the best one!
The isolated cell I chased had rotation on it for most of its life, but it was fairly weak rotation and never tightened up enough for a tornado warning.
On the loop Pete posted, I was located just to the right of the frame (east of Boxborough). Chased the storm but decided not to core punch it, but stopped on the eastern side and let it pass by just to my west.
Awesome that you got to chase. And yes RadarScope. Also app I use thanks to JPD quite a while ago. It’s great.
Thank you and hope the day goes well!
For those that did not see it, a dramatic win by Red Sox!

Saw it on the news! Pretty Awesome!!
I’ll say one thing for sure… Funny how they are playing so well
with one talented player removed from the roster. Makes one think, that’s for sure. Was Devers that much of a cancer in the locker room? Sure seems so. Now to be sure, I haven’t the slightest idea what went on there, but clearly something was up.
They also just played 2 of the worst teams in all of baseball, and are finally getting injured players back.
And 2 straight from Tampa Bay who aren’t exactly chicken feed. I just find it pretty interesting. You can think what you like. 🙂
Good morning and thank you TK.
Hoping you Mother sees more improvement today.
Thanks TK. Hope you and your mom are both feeling better soon.
Thanks TK !
Hoping for a good day for your mom ! Take care of yourself too !!
My wife and I pulled into Mactaquac Provincial Park yesterday just west of Fredericton NB to start a camping trip that will take us eastward through Nova Scotia and to my wife’s relatives in Cape Breton.
It was 80/27C under some sun and my guess is the DP was either side of 60F.
Looking forward to a hot turkey sandwich and eventually some butterscotch pie 🙂
Oh, into the new time zone, 1 hr ahead, but we barely moved east in the time zone, so sunset last night was 9:17pm.
butterscotch pie sounds absolutely delicious!!!!
I was thinking the same.
Have a great time!
Thanks JpDave !
Such a beautiful area of the world. I’m thinking you do not go as far north as Blackville and the Miramichi?
Mac’s three time (I think) grandfather was the first minister at a church in Bible Hill. A woman I met via ancestry when researching Mac’s dad’s family (Same last name as ours but different line of Bruce’s) grew up in the town so often left flowers on his family grave for us.
Her aunt lived in Cohasset and when in Humarock, Mac and I would leave flowers on her grave.
Small world
Small world for sure !
I don’t think we’ve been to Miramichi but give my wife a few more summers and we’ll probably get there 🙂
I love this. Your wife has me smiling.
Thanks, TK.
Continued thoughts for your Mom.
Thanks, TK.
I’m glad I was wrong about the Sox (at least at this point in the season; who knows what will happen going forward). I thought that at the end of June they looked dead in the water. My assessment couldn’t have been more inaccurate.
80 with dp 70 here! Do these dew points ever quit???????
I was chuckling as I read the blog today. We asked TK to include DPs. Now I try not to look at them
This is actually pretty normal for this time of year here. 🙂
Unless you’re in a pattern of frequent deliveries of polar air from Canada, and we’re not, then 60, 65, 70 dew points are not uncommon in summer.
Certainly is. Ahh to be a kid again when a little humidity was easy

Back to Wordle in four today.
4 for me today and 5 yesterday. At least I got them. Improvement? OR just easier words? I dunno. Will keep trying.
Very nice. Awesome that you are sticking with it.
Well done Dave!
I got 4 both today and yesterday. The reported averages are 4.9 today and 3.9 yesterday.
Thanks, I am trying. Gets most frustrating at times. Unless I can get 3 letters in proper position, I don’t have a chance.
I still see a bunch of jumbled up letters that make no sense to me. So my key is using word guesses that catch me letters in the correct position. Then I can solve it.
Besides the very high humidity, I wish that I could wake up to at least a “some” sunshine. Every morning lately it’s low clouds/fog first. At least this morning the sun broke through much earlier. Yesterday it wasn’t until early-mid afternoon. Even TK’s forecast above reflects that.
Sunrises are starting to get a bit later each day now and little more noticeable with time if you look carefully enough like I do. Before you know it, those dark mornings will be back. 🙁
Well it’s not cloudy every morning. We’re just in a pattern right now where stratus / fog tend to form overnight when the temp / dew point meet. I love the process, actually.
I also notice there is too much focus IMMEDIATELY after the summer solstice on the coming “dark days”. People need to start enjoying the present more instead of worrying about the future that they can’t control. I do it every day. It’s very helpful.
No Canadian air masses for the foreseeable future. Through the rest of the month?? 🙁
Where is Don Kent when you need him? Those were the days. 😉
Never said we would not see Canadian airmasses for the rest of the month. This is July 12. We get one behind Monday’s cold front (only thing is high heights – ridge) bring it warmer / hotter air – not unusual for this time of year. We get another one late next week behind the Friday system. And as we develop more of the NW flow pattern beyond July 20, we’ll be getting more deliveries from Canada.
Amusement…
Somebody (who reads the forecast I post but not the comments section)) asked me “what happened with today’s weather? I thought it was supposed to be nice.” … and I’m thinking “huh?”
My reply:
“I indicated a blend of clouds and sun after the marine layer fog and stratus burned off. We have that. I also indicated a temp-modifying southeasterly air flow. We have that. It’s a pretty nice summer day.” Wondering what forecast they actually read. 😉
Down to 77 here from 80 with a decent sea breeze.
I just came back from the store, it is WET out there. I mean it is ridiculously HUMID! TAKE IT AWAY!!!!!
convection firing well to the West where it is likely to remain.

Sorry, try this
https://radar.weather.gov/station/KBOX/standard
Don’t think that activity will even make it to the eastern part of NH.
The upper 60s dp is very nice today with that SE breeze. 🙂
Speak for yourself! It is MISERABLE!!!!! I was out and it felt like SOUP. I just did some work in the house, some where there was no AC. I am sweating bullets!!! It is great that you like it, but just remember there are many of us who cannot tolerate this BULLSHIT humidity, most especially as we age.
cheers 🙂 🙂
It depends. If I were sitting in my yard that has absolutely no shade, I’d say not so great. But was just at my daughter’s in Uxbridge. We sat under a huge tree in their yard; and with the breeze, it was lovely.

This is a great summary of the Texas event you don’t need a degree in meteorology to understand. This guy is a fave of mine for informational posts.
Quick question- we start a two week vacation in Bourne next Wednesday. Do you have a ballpark forecast on what to expect and maybe when to plan outdoor activities. Thanks
While I am asking about long range forecasts, can I take your comment this afternoon about more Canadian air after July 20 to mean there may be a cooler second half of summer on the way?
I don’t really think that’s a cool pattern
I think there will be enough ridging far enough north that it will be a warm to hot pattern.
I was hoping we had paid our dues.
83, 70 yuxk
80 / 73 here.
83/70 here
Boss, 9 in a row!!
*Bosox
A 3-hit shutout of the Rays!
And no errors 🙂
Thanks as always tk!
I made the mistake of going out for a walk in the woods today. Just a mile. They mosquitos absolutely feasted on my legs. I need to remember to put on bug spray (though I swear I still get bitten when I put that on.) otherwise it was a lovely day however just too humid.
Tomorrow looks to be just as humid. I’ve got to start putting the bread in the refrigerator because it just encourages easy mold. Looks like we put up with it until friday.
Posible heatwave for Boston next week
It would be #3 for the season. I believe the record is 5 in 1949.
That is correct. I was actually going to post that as a trivia question and never did …
I actually think Boston will get two 90-degree days next week but miss the other one because of a pretty decent sea breeze.
How do you count heatwaves? If every day of July hits 90, how many heatwaves would that be?
Ten? One?
If every day except for those divisible by 4 hit 90, that’d be eight!
I KNOW that you know….
If every day in July hit 90, that would be part of one heatwave. 🙂 It never has happened and never will happen here.
New post…
