Sunday July 13 2025 Forecast (8:15AM)

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 13-17)

High pressure offshore continues to sink southward, and similar to yesterday we’ll see a morning stratus and fog layer burn off to a sun/cloud mix, and a general southeasterly flow keeps the coastal areas cooler than the interior as we remain fairly humid today. A more southerly air flow takes over tonight and Monday ahead of a cold front, which will bring an increasing shower and thunderstorm chance from west to east late-day and night, but as the activity is starting to dwindle due to the loss of solar heating. The front will be slow to cross, as previously mentioned, and this brings about the chance for additional showers into a portion of Tuesday, mainly along and east of I-95, with a diminishment of the chance as the front slides offshore. High pressure builds on Wednesday, both surface, and aloft, resulting in a sunny day with the air heating up, but a potential sea breeze capping the rise at the coast. A little change from yesterday’s outlook is prompted by fairly reliable guidance showing a stronger trough approaching on Thursday as we see a warm to hot, humid southerly air flow. This can increase the potential for thunderstorms before day’s end.

TODAY: Low clouds and areas of fog give way to a mix of sun and clouds. Highs 75-82 coast, 82-89 inland. Dew point 65+. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 65-72. Dew point 65+. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Late-day showers and thunderstorms possible, mainly west of I-95. Highs 82-89 except 75-82 South Coast. Dew point 65+. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog. Chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows 66-73. Dew point 65+. Wind S to variable up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Variably cloudy with least sun morning and most sun afternoon. Additional showers possible RI and southeastern MA. Highs 82-89. Dew point 60+. Wind variable to W up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clearing. Lows 61-68. Dew point falls below 60. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 85-92 but a bit cooler coastal areas especially Cape Cod. Dew point near 60. Wind variable up to 10 MPH with coastal sea breezes.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy fog in low elevation locations. Lows 58-65. Dew point near 60. Wind variable under 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Sun / cloud mix. Afternoon thunderstorms develop west to east. Highs 85-92 except cooler South Coast. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 18-22)

A cold front moves through during July 18 with additional showers and thunderstorms along with high humidity. High pressure builds in with fair weather to start the July 19-20 weekend but a vigorous disturbance from the west northwest, signaling a shift in the pattern, may arrive as early as July 20 with t-storm chances, followed by fair and warm to hot weather early the following week. May have to tweak that disturbance timing on future updates due to normal uncertainty with guidance so far in advance.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 23-27)

Large scale pattern features a ridge of high pressure in the central US. West to northwest flow here brings variable temps that can include heat shots, and disturbances that can bring thunderstorm chances, although rain-free weather would be dominant.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.
Made 84 here yesterday later in the PM. I expect it to go higher than that today. We shall see.

        1. Yes I know. And I gave you an 82. Trust me, I know the difference between Logan Airport and Jamaica Plain. Been forecasting this area for “a few years”. 😉

  2. Thanks TK. Any ideas on Weather in Bourne for two weeks starting this Wednesday? Starting vacation and looking to schedule outdoor activities.

    1. Well I go out 15 days and it’s covered in today’s discussion, which is basically what makes up my blog post. 🙂

What you see is what I expect!

One thing to keep in mind in higher humidity set-ups they are going to be prone to low clouds & fog a bit more often than an area away from the water.

  3. Clouds look a little more stubborn to break in my area this morning compared to yesterday. Still, it will happen fairly soon.

    1. Same way up here. 🙂

Not complaining, it got warm very fast yesterday but there’s a breeze and still a
low stratus cloud deck, it feels very nice !!

  4. Thanks, TK.

To your point yesterday on typical dew points in July, I am not at all surprised by what we’re experiencing. While it’s been relentless, it almost always is. I’ve lived in the Boston area for many years, despite my long sojourns overseas, and my memory of a typical July is precisely what we’re getting now. Frankly, a cool Canadian airmass is not something I ever associate with July. There’s usually no break in summer until August. At some point in mid-August, we nearly always get our first intrusion of much cooler air. It doesn’t last long. But as my Dad used to say (he used boxing metaphors) on a cooler night in August: “Summer just got hit pretty hard. It’ll easily get up off the mat this time, but it won’t be around that much longer.”

      1. Love their stuff, and “Time Stand Still” is a top 5 Rush tune for me.

    1. There are exceptions. I remember the summer of 2001 where cool Canadian air and low dew points were here quite a bit more often than I was used to seeing. I remember it well because I was quite sick at the time, still in the process of getting my autoimmune disease under control, as well as battling that 7-month mycoplasma pneumonia. Some of the “bigger” things I could pull off with just enough energy was taking my son (who was not quite 2 yet) and my daughter, who was almost 10, for strolls in places like Lexington Center. I remember doing that, in fact, on a very cool, breezy July day. And it seemed like that type of air was around a lot. I’d have to look it up – maybe I’m slightly biased by the fact during that time of illness I often ran colder than I typically would. But I do know we had quite a few cool / dry intrusions.

      1. Well, I looked up July 2001. For Boston, the temp departure was -4.2F. Brr! I wasn’t dreaming.

      2. Your spot on and I know that because we were way east in Cape Breton and it rained the whole time because we were east of the upper low that sat over PEI and New Brunswick all of July.

That gave New England a ‘cool’ July and had Cape Breton in either episodes of rain and instability pm showers.

    1. Two for me today. I did the NY Times Mini crossword and it mentioned “bird that is a fave starting word for people who play wordle” (spoiler: it’s crane, btw… the mini crossword has already reset to monday so you wouldn’t see this hint anyway.) I used that which gave me the ending letter and the N in the wrong spot. Anytime I reveal a consonant I try to think of what letter it can combine with or what vowel can go after it. So I figure S, and G were the only options and that gave me my answer. That’s my general process and I get it in two or three most days. 🙂

      1. Your welcome. I am going to do this a little more often. I like this product the NWS has come out with when it comes to heat. At least were not a level four out of four this week like we were a couple days three weeks ago which is still the worst of the heat so far this summer.

  5. Thanks, TK!

Continued positive energy and prayers for Mom, you and your family!

75 degrees and the sun is trying to break through the overcast.

Live Aid, the mega-concert for African famine, was 40 years ago today. There were two stages, one in London’s Wembley and the other at JFK Stadium in Philly. The shows were connected by satellite and shown on MTV. I think I watched all or nearly most of the concert. Phil Collins played on both stages, playing a set in London, jumping on Concorde and performing later in Philadelphia.

I have the entire show on four VHS tapes somewhere in the cellar. It will take me longer to find the tapes than it will be to watch them. 🙂

    My favorite performances:

    Bad ~ U2

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvBgRSSlVBA

Sultans of Swing ~ Dire Straits

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVZTP_kX5BE

Heroes ~ David Bowie (featuring Thomas Dolby on keyboards)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFHC6t13hi0

And, of course, the entire set by Queen:

    1. As we were driving through Maine a couple days ago, 102.9FM, a Powerhouse Maine station was celebrating live aids upcoming 40 yr anniversary by playing all the live music from Live Aid. It was awesome !!

U2, right after their performance was at first, upset with Bono for having gone into the crowd during one of the songs. Each band/artist was given 20 mins and his journey into the crowd used up their time and they didn’t get to play Pride in the Name of Love. The Edge, Adam and Larry thought Bono had ruined it for U2. It was only a couple hrs later that they learned it was an iconic moment and it really established them and then came the Joshua Tree 🙂

      1. I did not know of U2 before I saw them on Live Aid. I have seen them four times in concert since then, including two years ago at Sphere in Las Vegas. I found out by reading my college yearbook that they had played on my campus during their second American tour in 1981.

    2. I think that Queen was the greatest rock band of all time.
of course that is just my personal opinion, but they were other worldly.

    3. All those are fabulous! And being a TMDR fan, I’m glad you mentioned him playing keyboards for Bowie. He was proud of that gig, and Bowie was one of his influences and favorites, and became a good friend as well.

Thomas Dolby is of course best known for the silly but dark-themed “She Blinded Me With Science”, and is often considered a one-hit wonder here in the US because of it. He charted a few more songs in the UK, and has made several stellar albums, all with their own distinct personality.

Many people do not know that Thomas is behind the atmospheric keyboard sounds on Foreigner’s “Waiting For A Girl Like You”. 🙂

  6. SAK, thanks for sharing the RUSH song and lyrics.

TK, I do remember July 2001 and it was cooler than normal. We did get intrusions of cooler air that were August-like.

I think that generally, though, July this year is behaving like it usually does. We’re still 18 days away from August. A lot can happen, even unexpected things.

For those of you who remember the All Star Game at Fenway on July 13th, 1999, you may enjoy watching Boston’s own Donna Summer belt out a fine national anthem. Quite a voice! https://x.com/bostonradio/status/1944368652490264846

You may also recall that there was a lengthy tribute to Ted Williams before the game.

During the anthem, the camera showed not only the players on the AL and NL squads that year, but also then living legends, including Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. It’s sad to know that many of these legends – and a player from that year’s roster (Tony Gwynn) are no longer with us.

    1. I liked Donna Summer. Queen of Disco during that era, though that title is always debatable, maybe not so much with the Bee Gees (kings of Disco) haha.

  7. CF, thanks for sharing the Live Aid memories.

I was home for the summer of 1985 and working at a restaurant in the Chestnut Hill Mall called Charlie’s Wildflower. I recall the televisions at the bar broadcasting Live Aid as I was busting by you know what as a bus boy.

  8. Joshua: Thanks for your memories of the 1999 ASG at Fenway. (I danced to Donna Summer’s music at my senior prom!!!! 🙂 ) More than the incredible baseball talent and the appearance of Teddy Ballgame, it is Pedro Martinez’s dominating performance that I will remember about that game. Petey, in his home ballpark, struck out five batters in the two innings he pitched, including Barry Larkin, Larry Walker, Sammy Sosa (all in the first inning), as well as Mark McGuire and Jeff Bagwell in the second!!!

  9. So a quick note about media / social media…

The new “craze” is to find and post EVERY flash flood event. This suddenly makes it seem like there is a big uptick in flash flood events. We should all know by now this is not the case.

The best example I continue to cite is we get 1 or 2 significant airline incidents and suddenly every ultra-light aircraft emergency landing is on the internet. Air incidents are DOWN in 2025 over 2024, NOT UP. DOWN. Reporting of every single one of them is WAY UP.

Reporting of every single drop of rain is now WAY UP. Why? Because amateurs who run pages, and news directors in search of clicks and shares are doing it for their own reasons.

Just needing to inject some truth into all of this. I’m really tired of people being mislead by things that are supposed to truthfully inform. So, I’ll continue to do the latter.

  10. Clouds remain stubborn, but finally making some progress. Definitely a couple hours behind yesterday’s pace.

Temp at Boston is 2 degrees cooler than yesterday at 11:00 a.m. (72 today / 74 yesterday).

    1. So far the summer of 2025 will be remembered as the sun “hitting the snooze button” on a daily basis. 🙁

  11. Thanks Tk . Up on the rooftop garden at the Hospital enjoying some fresh warm air , love summer weather!!

  12. Hey Tom,

Just finished up watching a series on Netflix entitled
Sullivan’s Crossing . It is supposed to take place
in Nova Scotia, and it is actually filmed in an round Halifax, Nova Scotia. Thought you might get a kick out of it.

Vicki, I think you might like it as well.

  13. Sun has been out quite strongly now for almost an hour.
    Temperature is responding slowly.
Up to 78.4 with dp 68.

Airport is 72 with dp 66 and ESE wind.
Where is the straight SE wind which is what I expected and why I thought it would be warmer here in JP than yesterday.

We shall see what the sun can do. yesterday High temp was about 5PM. 🙂

    1. I saw that but tropical developments have been fizzling out everywhere. The hotspot has been in the eastern Pacific, west of Central America and south of Mexico. That area has seen a half dozen tropical storms this season but again they fizzled out.

          1. Nowhere near Texas and especially far from that area. They have nothing to worry about for a while.

  14. I think (I hope) the Red Sox are a different team this year than in 2022, 2023, and 2024. BUT it’s vital the Sox get off to a good start (or at least a fair one) after the break and not repeat their second `half’ performances in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

    On July 13, 2022, Sox were 47-42;
    On July 13, 2023, Sox were 48-43;
    On July 13, 2024, Sox were 52-43.

We all know what happened after posting these records: The Sox had dismal second `halves.’

Today, July 13, Sox stand at 52-45.

Is this team different from the past 3 seasons? A part of me says yes. But is that part me wishful thinking?

    1. Post All Star break, the Sox will play the Phillies, Cubs, and Dodgers. This is a TOUGH lineup. I would like to see the Sox come through these 3 teams with .500 or better.

BTW, the 3rd inning today has been nothing less than bizarre. Poor base running by Tampa cost them a run and an obstruction call against Tampa gave the Sox a run. Sox up 1-0 after 3.

  15. 78.4, dp 67
More of an East wind here and NOT SE as expected.
So the East wind will keep the temperature in check, perhaps making 80 at best. A switch to SE wind, would allow temp
to get to 85 or 86. We shall see.

      1. 🙂 🙂
If the wind would really so SE and not ESE, Could go higher. 🙂
        Doesn’t look that way now.

  16. Just thinking … Today is the 40th anniversary of Live Aid, as mentioned previously, and wouldn’t it have been great for MTV (or VH1) .. the regular channels, not one of their several off-shoots, to put aside marthon reruns of Big Bang Theory and Ridiculousness to show the entire event this weekend?

They could have pulled it off – but nobody associated with them gives a crap. Sad. A missed opportunity for a musical history lesson, and maybe a reminder what we can achieve when we work together for something…

  17. Ceddanne with a 2-run homer giving the Sox a 3-run 6th inning. Sox up 4-1.

Ceddanne is just unbelievable right now!

  18. Red Sox win 10th in a row!

Last time this happened was 7 years ago to the month!

  19. Any chance the Red Sox make a last minute acquisition or do they keep the roster as is?

    1. All teams are looking all the time. They could be looking at possibilities but I do not know who they could offer up as a trade. The Sox are building for the future with young players.

One thing for sure is that after the All Star break, they have a brutal schedule. Believing in themselves will help them get through it!

  20. It must be the Sunday blues getting to my brain. I posted my “Thanks TK” as a reply to another post. Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

  21. Weather History…

The 1950s were one of the most dynamic weather decades for heat, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.

On this date in 1954, it was heat…

It was ≥100°F (38°C) in 37 states, with 25.8% of the Continental U.S. land area reaching the triple digits.

State-by-state breakdown of highest temps on 7/13/1954.
    • 101° in Washington
    • 102° in Louisiana and Minnesota
    • 103° in Delaware, New Jersey and Wyoming
    • 104° in Idaho, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York and Pennsylvania
    • 105° in Alabama, Iowa, Maryland and South Carolina
    • 106° in Georgia and Utah
    • 107° in Colorado, Kansas, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia
    • 108° in North Carolina and South Dakota
    • 109° in Indiana
    • 110° in Nevada
    • 112° in Arizona and Texas
    • 114° in Nebraska
    • 115° in Arkansas and California
    • 117° in Illinois (state record)
    • 118° in Missouri and Oklahoma (state record in Missouri)
    • 120° in Kansas

Saw some headlines today about sweltering heat. What percentage of the US is above 100 today? That would be 5%. A nice example of headline drama. Par for the media. 😉

    1. I remember the many hurricanes. It was a great era to become fascinated by weather. The 50s through the 60s were Also phenomenal years for skiing in New England.

  22. Mom update…

A little better today, sitting up more, eating well. Still very tired.

    One day at a time…

  23. Went to see the Back to the Future musical at the Opera House today. If you’re a fan of the original movie, I highly recommend you see it. It’s only in town until next Sunday.

We spent an hour or two walking around the Downtown Crossing area afterwards, stopping for a meal and some shopping, and it was a very nice day for it. Didn’t really notice the humidity, and temperature was rather comfortable.

    1. Nice! I’m not sure if I’ll get there in the next week with everything else going on, but I’ll leave the option open!

  24. The last time the Red Sox had a 10-game winning streak was…2018.

Could this be the year…again? Hmmm. 😉
