DAYS 1-5 (SEPTEMBER 29 – OCTOBER 3)
High pressure provides fair and mild weather today with plenty of sun that may become filtered by a shield of high clouds fanning up from the south. Those clouds are a product of a plume of moisture connected to Tropical Storm Imelda in the Bahamas. “Big brother” Humberto, a strong hurricane set to curve northwest to northeast in the western Atlantic, west of Bermuda, over the next couple of days. Imelda’s track will feature a slow northward movement and a hard right turn, following Humberto out to sea other than threatening Bermuda while passing by there as a hurricane later this week. Back at home, our mild and fair weather continues Tuesday, but a strong cold front slides through the region from north to south. This moisture-starved front will produce nothing but some clouds (no rain) and a wind shift to north and northeast. A larger high pressure area in eastern Canada will then deliver a cool airmass to our region for midweek, along with more wind between it and the offshore tropical systems. By the end of the week the high to the north will build closer and the wind will ease as fair weather continues here.
TODAY: Sunshine becoming filtered by high clouds from south to north. Highs 75-82 except 68-75 South Coast / Cape Cod. Wind variable under 10 MPH early becoming SW up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Patchy ground fog interior low elevations. Lows 53-60. Wind SW under 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 71-78. Wind W 5-15 MPH shifting to N to NE 10-20 MPH with higher gusts especially along the coast.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 46-53. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 60-67. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 42-49. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 58-65. Wind NE 5-15 MPH, higher gusts, diminishing during the afternoon.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Clear. Patchy low elevation fog. Lows 38-45. Wind calm.
FRIDAY: Sunny. Highs 63-70. Wind variable to SW up to 10 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 4-8)
High pressure sinks to the south providing dry weather and allowing a warm-up this weekend (October 4-5) as well as into the start of next week before a cold front swiftly moves through with maybe a brief shower threat about October 7, followed by a shot of cooler air from Canada with another high building in.
DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 9-13)
Zonal (west to east) general flow pattern expected. Overall dry regime continues. Cool at first, warming up, a frontal system may bring a round of showers before we cool down again.

Combo weekly forecast & tropical blog.
Good morning and thank you TK.
58 here this morning and much drier!!!!!!
Wordle; 4
That was the cold front that went by late last evening delivered that for you. Still pretty mild today and Tuesday though. It’s the second cold front that will deliver the cool airmass. Some areas may fail to reach 60 degrees on Thursday.
Fail for me, didn’t see it with the 2 letters I had after my 5th guess. On to tomorrow’s word 🙂
For now, anyway, there’s always tomorrow. 🙂
Just made it with six.
Good one Dave!
Thank you. Far better than the 2 fails the last 2 days.
I just remembered what today’s word was. Pretty normal word, but it really didn’t lend itself to most typical starting words.
Starting words are the main problem. Sure there are optimal words to try, but they do NO good if the word of the day is NOT comprised of any of the letters of the nice optimal word.
Plus optimal words are based on any of the 2500 or so words available. True optimal words should be regenerated after each day removing the word of the day as a possible word. I do not believe this is being done, at least not available to the public. Well PERHAPS the alogorithms do use previous words. Here is something I googled:
When calculating the optimal starting word for Wordle, experts use an algorithm to remove words that have already been solutions. For today, September 29, 2025, the optimal starting word depends on the specific methodology used to weigh letter frequency and position
.
While no single word is universally considered “best,” here are some of the most effective starting words, with consideration for past solutions:
Data-driven options for maximum information
These words are statistically powerful because they feature common letters and vowels in high-frequency positions, helping to narrow down the word list quickly.
Top choices from mathematical and AI analysis
SLATE: Recommended by the New York Times’ official WordleBot as one of the best for Normal mode. It contains common letters S, L, T, A, and E.
SALET: Researchers at MIT identified this as the top word to reduce the number of possible solutions, though it has never been a Wordle answer.
TRACE: A strong alternative that contains highly frequent consonants and vowels.
CRANE: This word was previously identified by WordleBot as the top choice for its excellent letter combination.
ORATE: As of April 2025, one Reddit user calculated this word as the best starter based on a spreadsheet analysis of past solutions.
Alternative strategies
If you prefer a less common starter that is also strong, these options provide a good letter mix:
LEAST: A solid option that has not yet appeared as a Wordle answer.
TASER: Another statistically sound word that has not been used as an answer.
PARSE: This word also scores highly on analysis and has not been used.
How to adapt your strategy
To play optimally, the best approach is to evolve your strategy based on the available data:
Rotate your starter words. Instead of using the same word every day, cycle through a list of the top options. This increases your chances of a lucky hit while still using a statistically sound choice.
Prioritize common letters. Start with a word that includes high-frequency letters like E, A, R, O, T, and S. This gives you the best chance of getting green or yellow tiles on your first guess.
Don’t worry about repeating letters immediately. Your first guess is about gathering the most information. Avoid repeating letters in the first word so you can eliminate as many different possibilities as possible. After that, focus on the clues you receive.
Interesting. Thank you. Today my starter words failed me. After two I had one only letter out of place. But it was a letter that made it easier to work around with the letters I had remaining and some luck maybe too. But I thought this one through for a bit.

Wow!!! Awesome work considering the miserable performance of your starting words.
Thank you. I groaned after the first two.
Very nice. 4 for me too.
Awesome!
🙂
Yay!
Awesome Vicki !
Thank you. Better than my near fail yesterday. I am struggling with connections too
Thanks TK !
Thank you TK.
Thanks TK
Low of 50 arrived gradually thru the early hours. 52/51 now
Thanks Tk
67/53 here after low of 58
Delicious air today after several days of MISERY!!!!!
Yay …I know it pales in comparison to Mrs OS but the past few days were not easy.
Yes, it was rough on her the last several days. Today should be a really refreshing day!!!
Was for me too. But I guarantee not as rough as Mrs os
Thanks, TK!
73/50 here now. Yummy!!!
I agree!
74 / 44 right now.
74/51. And I agree. Delightful
Thanks, TK.
Yesterday, I hopefully bid farewell to 80s and high humidity for at least the next 6 months.
I realize my adieu could have been premature. But there’s always hope that it was in fact the last of the high dew points and temperatures. We shall see.
I would love to say goodbye to the 70s as well. The 60s seem to stick around from time to time even during the winter.
I do like the 60s and 40s to low 50s overnight. Cooler on both work for me too
Thanks TK
Am I remembering correctly that you’re the Dallas Cowboys fan?
We turned the game off at halftime, but that was impressive to see Dak rumbling into the end zone with the go-ahead touchdown!
Thanks, TK.
77/48 here.
Pretty awfully warm out. Saving grace is the DP
I was putting out the trash it felt like 95 out there!!!!!
I opened windows a bit ago abs it is warm but I think the low dp and a feeble breeze allows for some nice air in the house.
I absolutely agree with you JPD. Just came back from walking down the street to CVS to pickup my meds. It’s HOT for August, let alone the last few days of September.
Wordle in 5
Excellent
Thanks Vicki. I don’t know why, but this word had me thinking A LOT before I actually got it. I don’t believe I’ve failed yet but hope to get it in 3 more often. I don’t often have great fortune 🙂
Did you just start? Either way it seems you’ve been doing a great job.
There are times the word oddly just comes to me and then there are other times (maybe more often) that it doesn’t.
It’s tons of fun having you play no matter the end result. ❤️
Thanks TK! Thank you to all who expressed condolences earlier – I have not been on blog much now that we are cleaning out my father’s house. It’s been hard to keep up with anything other than work. TK – I have even more admiration for you in your ability to keep writing the blog through the loss of your mom. My habits – other than running- definitely stopped for a couple of weeks. Once we sell his house which should be soon since is down the block from the ocean I can have closure.
By the way I did catch one social media “weatherman” hyping up Imelda could slam into Philadelphia. Thais was a few days ago. How irresponsible!! They should be banned from
Internet
Probably the “Meanwhile In Delco” page.
Jean I am a Dallas Cowboys fan. First time in my life a Cowboys game ended in a tie. When they went down 13-0 I thought it was over. Without there number one wide receiver and two players on the offensive line out with injury they fought and could have easily been blown out. The defense is a major problem. Cowboys stop the Packers on 4th and 6 in overtime they win the game. I thought they would be 1-3 at this point instead they are 1-2-1.
🙂
The difference a lower DP makes.
Last night it was 65 and I painfully turned ac on.
Now 70 and with windows open and there is a touch of a chill from the ceiling fan
I must admit I chuckle a bit with hoping warm temps are gone ….
By mid-late October, it tends to be cool, which continues through November, then it gets cold in December and stays that way thru March, to be replaced by raw and chilly in April, that moderates btwn cool and mild in May. I mean, it’s cool or colder 8 months of the year up here.
June is mild to warm, occasionally hot and September is warm towards mild. 4 months, 2 of which are consistently warm to hot.
lol …….
Sorry. Not trying to be an arse. Just what I remember
Oh ….. it wasn’t anything specific anyone said, but just some general comments that brought me a chuckle.
It just doesn’t stay warm up here very long relative to how long it isn’t warm . That’s all 🙂
Over long term, it’s a good general description, but we have enough variety to mean this won’t always be the case.
There are also tendencies for things to be certain ways over periods of time and I have found long-term indices such as AMO seem to have some notable impact on these types of things.
Example, the consistently warm to hot months you mentioned were anything but that in the summer of 2001. 🙂 The very same year we ended up with a December torch where Boston was nearly 5F above normal with 2 days in the 70s.
Rewind one year to December 2000, Boston was -6F (cold!)
We’re about variability, not really consistency. 🙂
Idk. I don’t remember a Halloween when we didn’t have to dig out winter jackets and gloves for under costumes. But then I’m old. Very old
New post…
