Blow Drier

11:26PM

Out goes the warm and wet wet, in comes the mild and dry, along with a gusty wind today into Monday. High pressure building in but remaining far enough to the south that a gradient between it and low pressure to the north will keep a drying breeze going for the next couple days, but absent will be the bitter cold we saw much of last week. There will be a trend to colder as the coming week goes on, and some storminess as well. I’ll try to iron out the details and post a longer update with a forecast for the entire week upcoming a little later. For now, here’s an update to the forecast for southeastern New England…

TODAY: Sun and clouds through midday, more sun afternoon. Highs in the 40s. Wind W 15-25 MPH with higher gusts of 30-40 MPH, maybe even stronger in some higher elevations.

TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 25-30. Wind W 10-20 MPH gusting 30-35 MPH at times.

MONDAY: Sunny morning. Increasing high clouds afternoon. Highs 45-50. Wind W 10-15 MPH still gusting above 20 MPH.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Lows 35-40. Highs in the 40s.

WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers Wednesday, snow showers Thursday-Friday. Lows in the 30s and highs around 40 Wednesday. Lows 15-20 and highs around 30 Thursday-Friday.

WEEKEND: Snow threat early? Much colder.

  1. Tk says weekend snow threat early? I’m telling you it’s so true every mlk weekend we either get snow or watching for a storm threat. Remember last mlk day we were to get alot of snow and it became a dud. I just think its weird.

    1. Wow. I didn’t read that but I bet I know which strike. I was posting here and said it was huge. Literally shook house

  2. Chris lambert says we will get colder by the weekend but average cold not that bitter cold. Saying we’re in a bit of a break from winter weather but saying its far from overe. He sees a dry and seasonable forcast ahead after rain Tuesday/ heavy pm and than some rain or snow showered end of week.

  3. Hahaha, I read this post right after I blow dried my hair!!! πŸ˜€

Thanks TK! I like the weather today πŸ™‚ (Hey, that rhymes…hahaha)

  4. Happy happy happy beautiful day!! Didn’t get to bed till 4am, what a great time, it felt like a game in Oct, awesome!!

    1. Stood up the entire game, while people throughout the stadium were getting thrown out left and right over everyone standing, great time!!

  5. Thanks TK.
Charlie you might be able to see the Pats again next Sunday in the AFC Championship. I don’t think the Chargers will be a push over and Manning’s record in the postseason is not great. The other thing to me the Chargers are playing with house money and no pressure on them. The game will be closer than a lot of people think and I am taking San Diego with the points.

  6. 12z GFS returns us to a near to below normal temperature pattern starting exactly at the half way point of January and then the bottom drops out with a broad PV diving into eastern Canada and the northeastern quarter of the US Reminds me of December 1989 pattern. And speaking of patterns, I really wish CPC would stop the computer-generated 6-10 and 8-14 day forecasts and just have a forecaster do them up on the weekends. They have enough staff. Put my tax money to good use, please. πŸ™‚

  7. For 2013, Boston’s precipitation averaged 5.08 inches below normal.
    They remain in moderate drought.

Off to a better start for precipitation in 2014, but we’re only 12 days in, and it looks much drier than normal during the remainder of the month as well as February, so anything made up will be quickly lost.

I expect to enter Spring already in moderate and possibly worsening drought in eastern MA.

  8. Thanks TK. By early weekend I know you mean Friday, or at least you better! I have kindly asked you to keep the snow away on Saturday. πŸ™‚

  9. Answer to Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

To determine your distance in miles from a thunderbolt, count the seconds from the flash to the thunder and …

    A. Multiply by 5 seconds
    B. Divide by 5 seconds
    C. Add 5 seconds
    D. Nothing, just count the seconds

    The correct answer is B.

  10. Too much trough in the East for the NWS’s fair weather forecast to verify later in the coming week, IMO. Euro/GFS blend yields some wintry weather at times Thursday through Sunday.

More a bit later when I post The Week Ahead.

      1. I have actually seen a forecast somewhere with 1-2″ on Saturday. Seems a little early for a forecast like that, but I think I saw it.
